Just FYI, I read the forums every day and I did not know about discounted server transfers until after the fact, and I mostly learned from threads like this where people complained that they didn't know about it until after the fact.
Also, _Klaw_ apparently still doesn't know about discounted server transfers...

This isn't something important that everyone had to know. If it was, you'd have seen the kind of announcements you've blamed Marketing for not using.
Enough people saw it and made use of it that the company made a profit. That's all Marketing is around for.

I was referring to communication by NCSoft to EXISTING CUSTOMERS. You're talking about advertising.

Wow, I had to make a search of the forum to find any mention of discounts on server transfers. I had little difficulty finding out about the discounted character slots but finding the bit on server transfers and add on packs wasn't at all obvious.
The NCSoft launcher talks about the anniversary and looking further it mentions character slots. No mention of transfers or add ons on the home page and the link in the launcher takes you to the news archive discussing character slots... there's no mention of transfers or add on packs.
You'd think that if they were running a special to try and get players to spend more money with them that they might want to actually let the players know about the special? Yeah, I know... dumb idea.
If I, as a player who's active on the forums and reads them daily didn't know about the discount on anything other than character slots how do they expect the masses of players who don't follow the forums closely to actually spend money with them? I found one announcement (rather cryptically titled) that mentioned transfers and I had to go looking for that.

They should have made the offer available longer.. again this situation doesnt affect everyone but its something that I feel should have been thought about. 4) Why do this BEFORE you merge the server list ??? Maybe I would have liked to transfer a toon onto Union ?? 5) Why dont transfers have a discount all the time? Character slots do.. When you but more than one you get a little discount. Why arent server transfers the same way.. it doesnt have to be 50% off but one or two dollars off here and there helps. That being said I think they should re-relase the discounted server transfer for that might have missed it... ANd they should extend the time longer.. |
1) That's sort of like not reading the newspaper or watching the news and complaining you weren't aware that a giant meteor named Francine was going to decimate your town.
2) I transfer characters about as often as I floss my cat's teeth. Therefore, the necessity, duration, and amount is subjective to the person the desire is relative to.
3) This was a nice thing: a gift. Gifts like this usually run for a short period. That's like being upset you missed a Double XP Weekend and the Devs should have made it a week.
4) When the server merge lists happens you can still transfer toons. That functionality will still exist. What you mean is that you're upset that it wasn't available at the same of the server merge.
5) If transfer were discounted all the time they wouldn't be discounted then - that would be their new "regular" price.
6) There is no 'ctrl' button on my computer. I am always in control.

Go check the tech support forum.
Many people had no website access for a good two months, aside from hacks and proxies.
Just something to consider.

Fact.. several people have commented on this post that they are forum users and did not know about it.
Fact.. I have talked to several people im game who are avid players.. on for hours at a time every day and they did not know about it.
Reality.. They handled this announcement rather poorly.. simply put.. People want to blame the user, insult my intelligence yadda yadda.. but the reality is that they did a very poor job with this particular announcement.
The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.
If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-

I am simply saying that this particluar announcement about the discounted transfers was handled poorly.. there are a litany of other announcements that have have been handled very well. I have no interest whatsoever in the Animal Pack or that Sports Pack thing.. yet I knew about those announcements and they were made loudly and clearly.
i think they dropped the ball on this one and obviosly there are others that agree,

- Fact) I rarely spend time on the forums and I knew about it (the last 24 hours have been an anomaly for me.)
- Fact) I received multiples about it.
- Fact) I knew other people who knew about it who didn't read the forums.
- Fact) People on the global channels I participate on Live mentioned it and knew about it.
- Fact) It's easy to say you know people.
Next they'll be complaining they didn't get this announcement.
