That's correct. And meaningless.

Jungles full of pygmy cannibals have been done before, right? So if Game A does a "Jungle full of pygmy cannibals" expansion and Game B from the same (small) genre pool does a "Jungle full of pygmy cannibals" expansion six months later, that's not eyebrow raising? Really? Because jungles full of pygmy cannibals has been done in other media ove rthe last few centuries so there's nothing strange about Game B's expansion?

Hehehe... ok, then. That's one way of looking at it.

A large difference being if the expansion/plot line/game is based on a common genre trope.

Mirror universes, or 'What if?' universes are a standard occurrence of Super Hero Comics, what is CoH based on, and what is the Pen and paper RPG system that CO takes its inspiration from based on?

That's right Comic Books.

Or to put it another way, is Rift ripping off World of Warcraft, because the current BBEG in both games is a dragon?

I'd say no, because Dragons are commonly the BBEG in high fantasy.

Brawling Cactus from a distant planet.

I think this side-topic is pretty silly and I didn't really want to get involved, but I just think that a Goatee Mirror Universe is almost as a part of the genre as capes and tights. Where as pygmy-filled-jungles (while more entertaining) is not.
Possibly a little bit more like "hopping on the bandwagon" rather than "ripping off", but whatever!

Regardless, I do believe the whole bizzaro-world-type-thing is about as common as chat bubbles for the genre.

I am saying this without a single glimpse of what it is that this other game has done though. I really don't care, hehe, just wanted to express that one little opinion I had about it!

On Topic: The dev chat was awesome... lots of cool stuff. The Steampunk pack is sold!

Off Topic: Mirror universes are a dime a dozen, don't sweat it.

Really Off Topic: I want that rainbow streaky thing from the competitors.... even if CoX just adds a rainbow trail as a new Sprint Aura. Trotting around the Rogue Isles leaving a wake of multi-colored joy spatter would piss off soooooo many darkity darks that I am litterally frothing with joy... in my pants ;D

That's a bit of a stretch. If I was laughing at another game for having street gangs or evil corporations, you might have a point.

For the record, I don't actually care about another game using the mirror-universe element (I thought the capital-R "Resistance" in the context of the setting was more eyerolling than the basic setting itself), I just find it funny that they're doing it.

We could do 'em one better with some prismatic auras, including a version that trails. Think buildup, but a constant prismatic halo.

But yeah, I'm kinda in the same camp. Forget the faux carebares. But the rainbow power is pretty cool despite also being very specific and potentially tragically dorky!

3) ICE for Stalkers!
4) Sonic for MMs
5) Thermal & Fire for Defenders
6-10) DARK SETS FOR DOMINATORS FOR THE LOVE OF ANY DEITY LISTENING!!!!
Come on, Broad Sword or Regen for Brutes!

Off-topic: It sounds like GR, but without the shades of grey and moral choices.
