Give us the ability to skip the cut scene in the trials

After 50+ BAF runs, staring at Mother Mayhem in her pornstar-like outfit referring to herself in Ochocino's third person fashion is seriously wearing on me. Similarly, after 20+ Lambda runs, watching Marauder drink some Red Bull laced with steroid and then going on a 'roid rage isn't any better. I mean, they don't even provide us with any crucial mission data that is necessary for completion. I can't imagine under any circumstances in the future, even if I quit the game for a year, that I would actually *want* to see these cut scenes again. In fact, make all in-game cut scenes skip-able. Maybe when the league or any of the team leaders presses the space bar or something. Just take it consideration please.

mmh hmmm, they should just put a flag on anyone that has ever done a mission with a cut scene and if everyone is flagged as seeing it the cut scene doesn't play.

OMG! My entire SG says this at least 20 times a week about all cut scenes....lol

It would be nice if they allowed us to turn them off in Options. Once you've seen a cut scene for the 50th time, I think it's time to turn them off, heck maybe even sooner.

But ya know, if there was audio narration to these cutscenes, I would like them so much more

How about just being able to hit ESC to skip it?

We don' need no stinkin' signatures!

You can't have some ppl look at the cutscene and some in game, interacting with mobs and whatnot. You'd need a system for everyone to choose, and then you'd have all sorts of bitterness ("No! I wanna see boobies!" vs "Screw you, I'm developing Mastrophobia!"). At least the BAF cutscene is at the beginning--I just use those first 2-3 min of everyone joining, zoning in & cut scene to stretch my legs, take a bio break, etc. Lambda is worse, w/it being in the middle (well, towards the end).

Seriously, I totally agree in concept. I'm sick to hell of the cut scenes in the game. They're nice once or twice, but man, how more many times do I have to watch "I Am Incarnate!" again? Or that long Bond Villain Speech by Dr Aeon?

I'd prefer a vote system similar to what Guild Wars uses.
Just use a confirmation box pop up with a short timer on it like the Mystic Fortune buffs. Give it a simple, "Would you like to skip this cutscene?" message and let you pick yes or no.

If anyone on the team votes no or fails to respond the cutscene plays. If everyone votes yes you can move on. Just make sure the results of the vote remain annonymous.

Yes, I can see the drawbacks of having one person on a League decide to grief by forcing everyone to watch it for the umpteenth time or lag causing someone to miss the pop up box. And you'll probably get overly controlling leaders demanding to know what happenned and threatening people who say they wanted to watch it.

But it lets people who haven't seen it before still get a chance to see them as the story line plays out and still gives an opportunity for teams and leagues to move past content they've seen a thousand times before.

I understand what you mean when you say there might be people on a team/league who would vote yes to see the cut-scene just as a means to "grief" everyone else into wasting some time.

But if you take a step back you can basically say that under the current mandatory cut-scene system the Devs are effectively griefing us ALL the time EVERY time with these cut-scenes. As a worse case scenario if someone griefed you by voting yes the worst thing that would happen is that you'd have to live through what we are already living through right now.

A least the vote system you're describing would give us a CHANCE to be able to skip these cut-scenes while being fair to everyone.

Are there anymore people that would like this change? Speak up and be heard by the devs. Seven years is way too long for an overdue change such as this.

If we skip the cut scene, when am I suppose to grab drinks and hit the head?

They bother me, but I'm not sure how you could skip them. On a team of 24 people, you can almost guarantee that one person either hasn't seen it, or wants to see it again.

I guess it would be nice if they attached a badge to starting the TF that unlocked the cutscene, and allowed you to play it whenever you wanted on your own time?

I've been using this time to refill my drink, but would prefer just moving on to the action. Seeing once, twice, even three times, okay.... but this "B" movie needs to be skip-able.

... at least one of these is a "DD" movie...

Totally with you on this. Getting very tired of seeing the same thing over and over. Mothers boobies are nice and all but I have seen them dozens of times already.

Another possibility is use the escape button to get out of the cutscene, but once youve unlocked it you can view it any time using your option menu or have a static viewer point that unlocks any cut scene associated with a specific TF/Trail. You could add a plaque next to Statesman, Lady Grey, Pocket D,... and people could just click on it if they wanted to see the cutscene over and over. Or just put it in your options menu somewhere with a list of all the cutscenes youve unlocked.

Blizzard used the static spot in WoW during the Lich King expansion pack with great success. You could see the cut scenes from the two big events (attack at Wrath Gate & the Death of Arthus) any time you wanted after they were unlocked. I personally prefer it being a more personal system so that it would be in your option menu and would include any cutscenes from quests as well as the TF/Trial ones.

Dragonhawk (lvl 50 fire/energy blaster)
Flamefrost (lvl 50 fire/ice blaster)
'Snowflake (lvl 50 ice/dev blaster)
Dragons' Flame (lvl 50 fire/fire tank)
Psyshock (lvl 30 Rad/Psi defender)

Both solutions proposed in this thread would work for me.
The vote system has already been implemented in GW and should be codeable in a relatively short time.
The popup movie would probably take quite a bit more work - but would be really nice.

Now, if they would just add voice acting to the cutscenes...

The problem with skipping the cutscenes is this -

Guild Wars, Aion, etc? They're all pre-rendered. You can just stop the movie and go on. (Which would also make "Move it into a small window and move it to the side" work.)

COH? Those *are* the NPCs, "live." The models are going through a script, everything else is frozen - as you can tell if you have people spamming junk into it, or even managing to place themselves *into* the cutscene.

Soooo you can skip the cut screen...great....then what...oh right yer...you have to wait for your team before doing anything cos they want to see the screen...errr so, whats the difference.

The problem with the cut scenes is that they're WAY too long, and don't really provide you with any useful information.

The Lambda cut scene with Marauder is especially painful. All he does is spout redundant cliches. The only information you need is the portals and the ceremonial gulping of the Enriche. It could easily be cut in half and be vastly improved by the faster pacing.

The BAF cutscene has the opposite problem. It has too many details, way more than you can absorb if this is your first time. And you don't need any of it if it's not your first time. Again, half as long would only make this cut scene better.

At this point I can't imagine the devs making changes to these. But future cut scenes should be kept very tight and to-the-point.

At this point, I highly doubt anyone who has run the trials more than a few times would want to see the cut scenes again.

Now on the off chance that someone does want to see it and the option is put in that they can watch it at their own discretion, why would everyone else who opt to skip it have to wait? Can't they get started by themselves? We have never needed to wait for AFKers to start a mission and this is no different.

Yeah, I could see how this would pose a problem. I disagree on the "move it into a smaller window and move it aside" part though. The smaller viewing window could just be a magnification (maintaining the same camera angle(s) of the current full screen versions) of the NPCs going through the scripts. The devs may even make the NPCs neutral/intangible until the cut scene is over to prevent premature aggro. It might be more work than it's worth for the devs but still possible?

Edit: Or, just dump cut scenes all together and put the dialogues/monologues in our individual chat boxes. Whoever wants to read it can do so to their hearts content.

Guild Wars is partially pre-rendered. They do somehow manage to inject the team members into the cutscene. The solution for CoH is to stop using the characters running through a script and make actual videos that are present on the client side.
