A New guy- some small questions

I started playing CoH/V two days ago and so far I'm really enjoying it and am happy with my first character (technology blaster). I'm really keen to keep playing except for the fact I can't seem to find anyone else. Over my whole time playing, about 6 hours, I have seen 2 other players, is this unusual?

I really hope there are more players as while I love this game having other players is a big part.

Cheers

It might be that you haven't seen a lot of people just running around lately because the current Weekly Strike Target is a level 50 Task Force.

I would suggest joining some global channels. You might start by entering the following commands in your chat window:

/chan_join "Triumph Watch 2.0"
/chan_join "Triumph Watch 2.1"

Both channels are - for the most part - there to help form teams for Task Forces, earning badges, hunting giant monsters, starting raids, etc. Historically, 2.0 is more heavily moderated and 2.1 generally has more "off-topic" traffic.

Welcome to the game and the forums

As the missions in CoH are mostly on separate instanced maps, there can often be several teams in a zone, but they're all on the separate misison maps, and they won't show up on a zone search, so joining the global chat channel is a very good way of keeping in touch with others on the sevrers, no matter what zone or map they happen to be on.

I'm not going to lie, Triumph isn't one of the biggest servers :P And as much as I hate to turn away fresh blood, you may want to try Freedom (one of the two largest servers, also known for it's pvp) or Virtue (the other largest server, mainly known for it's rp). Whichever server you decide to play on, welcome to the game.

Most of what Tam says is drunken-fueled nonsense. Unless when it pertains to the game. then lend him an ear.

Hi Thedoc like B Samson said join the triumph watch channels you'll find a lot of the people you had not run into in game on there. I know myself I have been running in the higher levels and have not been making too many lowbies so depending on where you have been playing (Praetoria, Atlas, Galaxy, Mercy, Port Oaks) I have been more in higher level areas, same with a lot of the others I am sure. Welcome to triumph hope to run into you in game sometime.

Welcome. Get your s**t and get out.

Last I knew, both of these channels were moderated, meaning you need to contact one of the moderators on it to get unsilenced (be allowed to use them) after joining. Figuring out how to do this if you haven't used the channel interface before isn't trivial, unfortunately.

I do have a few tips that might help get you going, if you see someones name in gold with "Helper" over it, they have offered to help new players out. Feel free to contact them via /tell to ask them questions, if they have time they may even be willing to join you to play a bit.

Another useful thing is the Help tab, a different color, on your channel list. You can also ask there for guidance on things like how to use the channel interface, Search function, etc.

Feel free to tell people on teams that you are new to the game, virtually everyone I've met in CoH is friendly and will try to help out, especially on the smaller servers from what I've seen. I find the quality of the players to generally be higher on the smaller servers as well, if you are obnoxious word gets around and people stop playing with you, its easier to be a jerk in a large pool of people like on Freedom or Virtue (not that I see a lot of it even there, but a bit more).

As someone else said, this game is not only heavily instanced, meaning most people are inside missions most of the time, but heroside especially there are a LOT of zones, so people are very scattered out across them. Its not until you get to Talos in the early 20s that you see many people running around.

Finally, while teaming here is a lot of fun, and just about any group of characters can make a very fun and functional team, doing some soloing early on is a good way to see some of the game as well. Veterans tend to speed through the early levels very efficiently, and you may not even see some quite interesting zones like the Hollows. So don't be afraid to do a mix, just about any Archetype can solo well at low levels.

You may not need the quotes, i don't remember. If you look at your chat window, at the top click Tab. This will open a window where you can select join channel and simply type Triumph Watch 2.0. You'd then need to find a moderator (someone in the channel list with a star) to unsilence you, though they typically check the list for silenced new members when they log in.

Alternatively you can get an invite from one of the moderators in game. If you play during peak hours in the U.S. evenings you could send a tell to @snow globe, @taryn, @greev, or @sayaki (i think he's a mod, not positive) and they'd be able to send you an invite. The command to send a tell is /t name for a local name or /t @name for a global one.

Also, may I note. That while it is easier to get a team on other servers... ie Virtue (the other server that I use on occasion) it is by far easier to get a TF started on Triumph. More TFers and serious players are on Triumph than any other server I have encountered.

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

@Sayaki isn't a mod on Triumph Watch 2.0 (he's not even on the channel), but he is a mod on "My TW", which is a bit more selective (and a private channel).

If someone is interested in joining Triumph Watch 2.0 or they need to be unsilenced, send a tell to myself (@Snow Globe), @Taryn, @FrostyFrozen, @Vanden, or any of the other mods.

Hi there and welcome!

You can send a global invite to me (@timmytwo). I just started playing again after a few years break. Now, I am joined with my wife (who is brand new to the game) and 2 friends (one is new, and the other is a walking dictionary to this game). We would love to expand and meet some new peeps!

Best thing about this game is the community, as you can see, people are more then willing to help out and have fun.

Welcome to all!
If your looking for and SG just send a message to either myself or my husband
@Sidhe Blade or @UltraTroll

We both play lots on Triumph but seeing that we just inherited two new SGs on Victory but we are usually on.

I understand the "where is everyone" but playing on the western part of the US I think that I am just usually missing people.
