Suggestions That Made It?

What suggestions did you first see made in the Suggestions forum that went on to actually be added to the game?

One of my favorites is my (and many others) suggestion the 60-day market auto-delete be done away with.

My suggestion for the power-ordering of Brute Super Reflexes. Well, it was made in the Brute forums and not here IIRC, but my power ordering made it into game.

What others can you think of (not necessarily your own)?

My own suggestions that made it:

The mouse-over information in the Enhancement window.

Punchvoke.

Brutes. (I didn't suggest this directly, but the AT closely resembles the ideas I posted for a Tank revamp, so I'm claiming it.)

The Wolf Tail added to the Mutant Pack. (Damnit. Should be in the Animal Pack!) You can still see my posts in the Booster thread with the dozen or so pictures of different animals who have just such a tail.

I don't know how much effect my videos about comic book characters who Dual Wield had on that powerset, but I'm posting the video trilogy again anyway. (I never made the fourth one because it would've been 35 minutes long. Comic book characters dual wield A LOT.)

A lot of the recent quality-of-life changes were long suggested:

Inherent Fitness
Merged trains
Merged NA/EU servers
Merged markets
Doppelgangers/Fight your "double"

During discussions about how difficult it would be to add animations for bullets bouncing off typed defenses as opposed to the dodging animation of positional defenses, I personally suggested that "at least they could put some kind of text in the damage numbers appearing overhead, like "CRITICAL" appears for Scrappers, that differentiates like 'dodged' or 'deflected.'"

Whether anyone else had previously suggested it, and whether or not they based it on my suggestion or had already implemented it in the code coming down the pipe, I'll never know.

The thread was something like, "How Do We Balance the Game?" One of Pilcrow's posts in it reads like the textbook definition of ED. Whether or not they developed it because of Pilcrow's post, or that he coincidentally nailed it, may never be known.

I remember seeing a suggestion for the nurses that are now in the hospitals.

Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.

Ice Melee not sucking any more was because of player suggestions about fixes to the powerset.

I've been away a couple years and since I've come back i've already noticed a bunch of ideas implemented - even some that were deemed impossible in the past.

ie.
Power Customization
Going Rogue
Masterminds not needing to respawn pets every time they zone
Inspirations for sale at the hospital
Easier travel through ferries and trains and helicopters
Inherent Fitness
Not needing to stay within Sidekick range
i20's new way to sign up for TFs
a less clunky market interface
Tailor at Pocket D
More and more new content
...and that's just off the top of my head.

It's a great feeling to come back and see that the devs haven't forgot about us. It leaves me with hope that the other impossible fixes (bases, pvp, um... bases) still could potentially happen one day.

Several threads discussing the Rikti Crash Site back in 2005 and early 2006 suggested a number of ideas that appeared in i10.

I posted a thread that included some story arcs for the zone. The only one of my suggestions that made it into the game more or less unchanged was the creation of a character (a Longbow agent in my write-up, Borea in the game) who gave out repeatable missions, like the newspaper.*

In that thread and a number of other threads, various players suggested a task force or zone event that concluded with fighting a Riktified Hero 1, as in the LGTF.

Also in that thread and a number of other threads, several players suggested zone events involving getting through the shields on the crashed Rikti ship. (At the time, the shield was up all the time, and it was possible to "surf" on it.) The ideas of destroying a series of pylons to shut down the shield and entering exhaust ports to place bombs were featured at least once.

Turning to other parts of the game, it appears that Sally, the lake monster in Croatoa, may have originally been intended to be more of a garden variety giant monster. Her first write-up in the Paragon Times (a feature I still miss) implied that her spawning would be signaled by Redcaps performing a ceremony by the lake shore, followed by her rampaging around. As Skipper Legrange puts it in that write-up, "She has to be destroyed!" Players didn't like this, for some reason, and came up with the "Save Sally" campaign. Whether due to player pressure, time constraints, or development difficulties, we got the current, inoffensive version of our favorite lake monster.

* This was before police scanners and tips were added to the game. At the time, the only repeatable missions were in the PvP zones, in the Shadow Shard, and in papers (villains only).

The PvP changes ran contrary to what forum-going players were asking for, so no, those changes were not a result of any suggestions here.

ED...I don't know. I came to the game in Issue 6 so I have no idea where that came from.

I've been playing Ice Melee for the first time recently. This is the fixed version of it? I'd hate to see the original! Not even having played the original, Ice Melee does have a couple neat tricks, but damage output isn't one of them lol. The time it takes me to whittle down a red-conning Boss is disgusting. IM does have a couple of neat tricks and has been just entertaining enough for me to not reroll to something else, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was on the bottom of the pile for Tanker damage output still.

I still remember with fondness the first time I saw that creature swimming around. There's just something about Sally!

Yes, the old version was worse. Much worse. /Ice Melee has never been the most damaging secondary for Tankers. It gave that up and focused on control. However, it used to have bad single-target and AoE damage. Now, it's single target damage is still low (but really, it's not as bad as you're making it out to be), but it's AoE damage potential is pretty decent. Frozen Aura does the same damage as Foot Stomp (without rage up), and is pure cold damage, which isn't resisted that much.

mmmm.... I'd argue that. It may not have been the suggestions from specifically the PVP community, but if you look at older complaints ("just a bunch of people hopping around" or "Control is useless!" for instance,) you can see some of it "addressed" by some fo the changes. Not necessarily in a *good* way, but addressed.

Even though the BIG LIST for BASE LUV still seems as long as ever, and even though i13 was, to many of us, the "salvage nerf of doom", there have been some small improvements inspired by the players:

individual salvage rack permissions
lower rental rates
Super leader (was not a direct suggestion, but addressed some problems with SG inheritance)
Death of Raid Pathing... okay, that was due to some serious coding/programming snafu, but many builders have been enjoying the benefits.

A long time ago I made a suggestion for a task force that would take you into the PvP zones to accomplish the mini games (nukes and shivans) and then set you against the full Freedom Phalanx. I made that suggestion before the RSF and STF.

Whether they took my idea or I'm psychic, I don't know.

Some off the top of my head:

There was a Dual Pistols thread that suggested the ammo swap powers.

Powerset proliferation had been asked for since CoH Beta.

Stores appearing on the maps.

Context Sensitive dialogue.

VEATS

I'm pretty sure someone must have posted a 'Let us make our own missions' thread at some point prior to Architect.

Always remember, we were Heroes.

Well a lot of them have already been listed but lets add some more..

Stores in Kings Row .. yes children long ago before Raptor Packs ( Yeah there actually was a time before Raptor Packs LOL) if you went to KR to run missions and leveled .. You could level with Blue Steel but then got to RUN back to Atlas Park or Galaxy because not a single store was loctaed in the zone. and believe it or not when the change was announced there were players that lobbied against it.

Inherent Fitness.. okay to be honest MOST here on the forums could have cared less about getting the rest of the power pool as inherent powers but for years people cried, moaned, screamed and begged to have Stamina available as an inherent. Probably one of the longer running requests too .. I can recall people asking for it years ago.

The l.ist of costume items is probably too long to even try adding here but off the top of my head .. WINGS, Trenchcoats, and of course COLORIZED POWERS!

And probably the biggest and it has been mentioned several time already but Going Rogue. I can recall seeing posts clear back when I first started here asking to be able to be an Anti-Hero type, a Rogue, a Vigilante.. the names varied but the request was the same We wanted to be able to create characters that weren't quite all bad or all good. What we got surpassed almost everyone's expectations I think. Players move freely back and forth between not two but three different COX universes and battle/badge in them all

I have said it many time I think one of the things that impressed me most about this game, this company, was the fact that they actually listen to their customers and when possible give them exactly what they want or even BETTER.

I still wish DP got Aim instead. IMHO Swap Ammo is an interesting toy but not really a serious tool like Aim is.

And VEATs were suggested on the forums? Hmmm. I remember just about everyone speculating that Villain EATs would be Nictus. I'm really, really glad that didn't happen, though. The VEATs we got are so much more than Nictus ever could have been.

The changes to Taunt where they removed the end cost and added a range debuff were originally suggested by someone in the Tank forums, from memory.

As far as I can recall, ED was, but GDN was not.

In fact, at one point *I* personally suggested Diminishing Returns for enhancements, but I suggested it as an ALTERNATIVE to GDN, not IN ADDITION to it.

That is a classic one. The post was titled "Hey Devs", and simply stated, "We need more -range." Made by the Artist Formerly Known as Lucas.

As I recall, Starsman had a thread that actually suggested putting -range into Taunt (I think he said he got the idea from another thread), and got a response from Castle.

The thread I mentioned started the discussion. In that thread someone, maybe Starsman, suggested adding -range to taunt and then the discussion moved to another thread.

I posted a long time ago about creating a fire event while the current fire event in steel in almost no way resembles the "towering inferno" that I envisioned I still like to think that they are linked.

Along with others I suggested a gift shop for the hospital, the nurse is close enough for me to count it.

I suggested they fill the gap in the praetorian tunnels with water and they did.

Was very much involved in the thread for a revamping of the PDP, which eventually yielded PocketD.

Mission Architect. Power Customization. Power Proliferation. Going Rogue. Numerous costume parts. All started as threads and posts here and elsewhere on the boards.
