This show has not attracted the right talent to do it justice. It's sad really but know one yet can present a modern version of WW. They keep on trying to recreate some part of the past that simply is dated in 2011. I go out on a limb and say this but WW must be "reborn" physically to be sucessful. Lynda Carter wil have to die too :-) Her image "as Wonder Woman" is preventing WW from getting her due like Batman and Superman. Lynda Carter is Wonder Woman in many people's minds. For example, I have a home in Columbia, MD. Lynda lives in Potomac, MD. She is so adored by the community here it would just make you sick. She is WW to many here and they don't want someone replacing her yet.
As I said earlier its really going to be impossible for ANY future Wonder Woman show to completely satisfy everyone. And yes a lot of that has to do with the current "legacy" of Lynda Carter. Unlike Batman and Superman Lynda has (to date) really been the only actress to play the role as far as most people are concerned. A new Wonder Woman actress was not only going to have to be accepted as a new Wonder Woman but she was going to have to be a suitable replacement for Lynda as well. I seriously don't think ANY actress really could have done that to the complete satisfaction of everyone. Adrianne may not be perfect (and I've even said I'm not sure I really like her either) but at least she'll start the process of moving us away from thinking "only" Lynda can play the role. If we don't get past that we'll never see another Wonder Woman show ever.

As far as "planning" for TV time I've been watching TV via TiVo for around 10 years now so that's not a significant issue for me. I'll simply watch it whenever I have the time.

This brings another comment to mind. Lynda Carter should not be allowed to cameo on this show. That is a recipe for disaster. Even old Lynda Carter is more woman than what TV is trying to push us now. I can see the headlines now, "Wonder Woman meets the Real Wonder Woman!!"

How about this one?

Diana Prince meets Wonder Woman :-)

Well at least we know Lynda won't be on the new show anytime soon. One article I read a few weeks ago mentioned she was supposedly too busy with her latest album to have a role in the pliot. I suppose if this new show does crash-n-burn quickly enough maybe there won't be enough time for her to ever do a cameo.

Regardless I really don't have a problem with Lynda doing a cameo. As a recent example we can see how Richard Hatch had a cool role in the new Battlestar Galactica show which had nothing to do with his former role as Apollo on the original show.

To think that the first Wonder Woman picture we saw at the top of this thread was going to be the "final" version of the outfit was just silly on your part.

At least come up with some reasonable reasons to dislike this show.
As I pointed out earlier, this is a show by David E. Kelley. This likely isn't going to be the action series fans want but more like Ally McBeal: Superhero. Set expectations accordingly. It could be brilliant in the way Boston Legal was brilliant: funny, preachy, with hefty dollops of meta-humor. It could be more action-oriented (particularly based on those photos) but it's a safer bet it'll have elements of both the 1970s series and the 1960s Batman.

Hatch had a totally different role on BSG. Hatch is a guy too. The rules are diffferent for men. If Lynda shows up on the show they will compare the two. To insult/put a nail the new WW, they'll probably build up Lynda just to for spite/add excitement. Viewers love showdowns with Women!! Brings to mind WWF, Sable(Lynda) vs. Luna(new WW)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GO2n3mTlPsU - Fans helped Sable just like Lynda in real life :-)

It's funny that, earlier, I was one of the ones who also actually pointed out that this show could end up being Wonder McBeal.

I'm pretty sure that's what Elizabeth Hurley's going to be for, at the very least. Regardless I figure the longer this show lasts the higher the chance Lynda will be involved in some role, whether that has anything to do with being an Amazon or not.

I like to think the writing has the most impact, which kept Buffy and keeps Supernatural on the air.
Women in the most-prized demographic (18-49) watch slightly more TV than men currently at 9 minutes per month, older audiences watch a little more than younger.

Asians watch the least, blacks watch the most. That last part I find interesting. I wonder if they're actually watching TV or if they just have it on in the background.

Asians - 96 h 36 m per month
Hispanics - 131 h 24 m per month
Whites - 139 h 32 m per month
Blacks - 211 h 8 m per month

This is a true statement that I will agree with you on. What is Hurley's role in this show? I thought she was like mother wonder woman or something. "IF" this show should make it, we will need to see a Wonder Woman eventually :-)

As far as we know Hurley is going to be a "villain" for Wonder Woman.
I'm sure they'll play up some kind of jealousy/hate thing she has against Wonder Woman.

My "magic reviewer" sense has been tingling - and not in a good way - ever since Joss Whedon parted company and has only been mounting as the news about David E. Kelley's script broke ("It's a slightly goofy comedy-drama about a hotshot business woman who moonlights as a superheroine, packed with Girl Power pop-songs and including the awkward phrase 'You go, girl.'") and he started doing rather ambivalent interviews about his take on the character. My worst-case scenario at the moment is that this could succeed in the same way as the Batman TV show of the 60s did - a solid mainstream success that actually sets the actual character back in the public eye while turning off comics fans. Maybe it'll just come and go like the 1974 TV movie with Cathy Lee Crosby. At least there's no way it could be as bad as the 1967 failed pilot from Batman TV producer William Dozier.

We'll see how it fares when it's broadcast shortly.

Thanks for the post, TrueGentleman. I'm posting the details for the benefit of our readers:

Speaking of inviting scrutiny: Wonder Woman. Why did you decide to take this on?
Well I first said no, for all the obvious reasons. It’s not really what I do; it’s not a genre that’s in my wheelhouse. But then I started thinking about, What if there were such a person in today’s world and what must it be like to be her? And I was imagining the sense of social isolation that she must feel, that she indeed would probably be a rather complicated beast. When I started thinking about all the complications and potential layers to this superhero, I just got more and more intrigued. It was also something I was a little bit afraid of. That’s good, too. Any writer should get out of his or her comfort zone, and this was way outside of mine.
So I took a deep breath and decided to go for it. I did not truthfully commit to doing it until I wrote the script. I was going to try writing it, and if I failed on my own terms, I would say no. If I thought, Yeah, this is something I believe in, then I’d turn it in. And it was something I ultimately did get behind. It was hard, but I had a good time writing it. And Warner Bros. and DC both responded very positively — and off we went.

Then you had to find your Wonder Woman.
It was not an easy search, but it went far quicker than I ever imagined. After writing this script, I remember looking at several people and going, "Yeah, now good luck trying to find her." She’s got to be strong, smart, emotionally accessible — and oh yeah, an Amazon! Good luck. I remember speaking to DC, and saying, "We may have to compromise on the physicality. We need to go with the best actress. And if the best actress is five-foot-five, we have to be open to that, because there’s too many layers for this character to also demand that she be nearly six feet tall." And then lo and behold, in comes this girl named Adrianne Palicki.
I had seen her on Friday Night Lights and I always liked her work, but I didn’t get a sense of her stature. I guess he was sitting down in a lot of the scenes. So she stood up, and we met — eyeball to eyeball — she smiled ... and I knew during the course of the conversation that this was Wonder Woman. I just knew it. I had an instinctive feeling that this was her. So then she read. And she was. And she is.

Thanks for the reposts. I've already read these so I hope you weren't doing it for my benefit. Anyway I can almost imagine Whedon sitting around waiting for Wonder McBeal to fail just so that he can get a vague "I told you so" out of this.

The idea of a live-action Wonder Woman has been "set back" in the mainstream public eye for the last 32 years (*drink*). I almost can't imagine how a new show like this would make the chances for, well, any other new show like this any worse at this point.

As I said somewhere a while ago in this thread Wonder Woman has been so cold as a TV property for so long that even if this new show dies off quickly it'll at least be remembered as a "recent failure" rather than "a concept stuck in multi-decade limbo". *shrugs*

At this point I'm fully expecting it to sound like Katy Perry was involved.
In fact if Katy Perry is -not- involved with it at least in some way I'm going to be a little surprised.

I could be wrong. I really don't know Kelley's TV work. I think I might have seen more of his killer croc movie Lake Placid than AllyMcBeal and The Practice combined. His on-record ambivalence about the character just doesn't inspire confidence when he should be trying to hype his new show (Whedon, for all his problems with getting his version into production, was able to come up with concise, concrete descriptions of what he felt made the character of Wonder Woman interesting). I also don't know Adrianne Palicki as an actress at all, so that's another unknown quantity.

No, but supposedly Beyonce's Single Ladies plays a prominent part in the pilot's soundtrack, along with other Kanye West's Golddigger, Lady Gaga's Bad Romance, and Blondie's One Way or Another.

I did read this but are they going to "create" a theme song for the show? I will not watch Wonder Woman kicking off to "One Way or Another!" Frack!!

I just got really, really sad all of a sudden.
