More Boosters than Cossie Slots
How about we get something everyone wants without having to pay or grind for it, just for a change of pace?
People have been suggesting being able to get more costumes slots for characters in this game for years now. The costume save/load was a step in the right direction, but at best it's only a cumbersome workaround for being limited to just 5 slots.
Sadly one of the only things that Champions Online currently features that I think is BETTER than this game is its ability to allow players to purchase extra costume slots for their characters. I haven't played that game in a long time but back when I did it was very cool to have like a level 5 character running around with a dozen costume slots.
Basically at this point I would favor any scheme that allowed us to get more costume slots per character in this game.

At this point if it's a feature that will only happen if the Devs think they can make a little bit of extra money on it I have no problem at all paying a few dollars for it. *shrugs*

I've been complimented on my costume designs more times than I could count, but even I have a hard time coming up with five different designs per character. A lot of them don't even need more than one.

I would like to have 3 or 4 complete and cool looking costume sets, NPCs conversion, Enemy faction or something new, just for free.
That would be nice from the devs. We always have to pay to get new costumes.

I have nothing against people who think the 5 costume slots per character thing is fine. I myself have plenty of alts which get by quite well enough with 5 permanent costumes or less.
But still I have other alts where having more than 5 slots at a time would at the very least be highly convenient. I think this would be a very cool QoL improvement that a number of people would benefit from. Would everyone use them? No of course not. But then again does everyone take advantage of every single QoL improvement added to the game? Again of course not.
If the Devs offered a scheme to buy extra costume slots then the people who wanted them could buy them and the people who didn't wouldn't have to bother. That extra money could then allow the Devs to develop other cool things for the game quicker. It'd be a win-win for everyone.

The thing I liked about Champions is that when you join a Super Group you get a costume slot and it's free to tailor any new slot you open. Which to me makes perfect sense really.
The concept was so that you could match your team, but truthfully ony some people did that. But again it would make sense that if you joined a team you would get a free tailor session to alter that slot to match the style or colors of your team, or team style.
I found that personally I did not need my other slots. My first costume was the best costume to solidify the toons personality. For instance not many comic super heroes have changed their iconic look far from their original, and when it does happen it's not usually long before it's gone back.
Except with Aquaman...who well...seriously...does it matter if he shows up in PJ's made of Seal Eyelids? Although there were renditions of him that made him a bit more manly, which were acceptable.
Vampirella has been wearing the same... Band Aid for eternity
Wonder Woman is about the same
Bat Man has some variations but not enough to warrent anything slot worthy more than perhaps a refresh of a look here and there.
With going rogue I can see having 3 slots. One for a villain, and one for a hero, and one where you are in a cat suit or lobster boi outfit to RP in Pocket D...or if your risky a secret identity costume.
Thats all I can see really. I even found that with Champions too though. The second costume you make is never going to be paramount to the one you first created to give the toon a super identity.
Lets face it, your original costume is and will always be you golden age costume. Some of em arn't pretty, but neither was Iron Mans old suit, but he threw that out and we know him now by his current, but the memories people attatch to their very first pair of tights will usually be the threads that they will associate with that toon.
This.

Actually we don't. We get free costume outfits from Vanguard and Cimerora if we do the missions often enough.

For example I have an alt that has a "classic" outfit, several casual outfits, several "battle damaged" looks, several "no helmet/glove" looks, several "hero/villain" looks and so on. All of these add up to well over 5 slots worth. Would it really upset anyone if I was able to have say 10+ costumes ready to go whenever/wherever I want?
I could do that in Champions Online. All I'm really asking for is to be able to do that here as well.

But Iron Man has had a whole bunch of costumes, as does Batman... sure they all have their "classic" but Tony Stark's changed his outfit almost as often as he's changed writers. But Bats and Iron Man both have a contuning theme, throughout their outfits. And if you take an example that's way more fitting for our purposes, then look at the Sentry. He was invented as a Golden Age forgotten character, but he has had a lot of costumes in a very short run - because styles and tastes change and people want different things from their favourite characters and Sentry kind of reflected the fashion of the times he was portrayed in.

You also have to remember OTHER costume variations. Unlike some games, you can't just remove a helm. If you're a roleplayer and want your character to sometimes take off the hemlet of his battle armor (or just open the faceplate) to talk face-to-face, you've just wasted one of your 5 slots on that.
One of my characters has a masked mode, a maskless mode and a "battle damage" (smoking aura+ "smudges" +torn costume bits) that I'll jokingly switch to after a particularly bad battle. That's three "costumes" in the game, but equivalent to just one costume in a comic book theme. Add a "civilian mode" for a character and you're at four already.
Or maybe you want to do the classic 'costume modification' for a specific situation? You see them more when they're trying to sell action figures (battle armor batman, undersea batman, arctic defense batman... change batman to spiderman, superman, or ironman at your desire). A tech themed hero might realistically equip himself differently-- even if it is just superficial in-game-- when facing the elemental attacks of the Outcasts compared to the gear needed for Carnies.
For every one of my alts, I always feel short on slots and usually modify a slot or 2 every so often, even if it's fine tuning a colour scheme. Then i'll leave it alone for a couple of years. But, would I even want or be able to fill any new slots, with a concept variation?...Heck yea.

That said, I don't care if the devs sell more costume slots. Seems like a waste of money to me with the save option, but hey if people want to spend the money.
The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.
They might add a 6th costume slot as an Incarnate reward - like demi-goddesses and demi-gods need bigger wardrobes

Extra costume slots should never be Incarnate and/or Vet awards. Far too much whining would ensue. They should either be unlockables or purchasable so that the people who want them can get them and the people who don't won't have to bother.

I'd be all for this. But people like EvilGeko would likely scream bloody murder that this would be a "waste" of an Incarnate award. And honestly I'd probably agree with him on that point.

Did you ever stop to wonder why this suggestion keeps coming up time and time again if "no one" really wants it?
I'm not saying you ever have to be overjoyed with the idea.
But if you truly "don't care" then why even comment with a negative slant each time it comes up?

Precisely why I suggested it's optional or unlockable or purchasable. Just like the additional 4 costume slots are options, you may not be interested in them - but others might. I definitely would want some extra slots on one or 2 characters. On others I don't. But having the option's important to me
Thelonious Monk
I use up all 5 costume slots like they are potato chips, munch they are all gone.
Some games, costume bits are equipment, and you can take off a hat by removing a hat.
Here, I use two identical costumes, one with the helmet/hat/ on, one with the hat/helmet/jacket/glasses whatever off for example. Helmet off, helmet on, helmet on but visor up.. /em takes off his helmet as he sits down for the supergroup meeting..
Maybe a swim trunks costume for that rare beach superhero social. Any clothes changes have to be a whole new costume slot. A few of my characters even change into a suit to do business at Wentworths, day trading. A stealth black version of my superhero outfit.. or jeans and t shirt for pocket D. I always have more, and some are trivial enough to just RP around, but I still have fun using up all 5 costume slots easily. I don't NEED more, 5 works okay, but it would further fuel the CoH addiction for some of us.
I understand how people that stay in their superhero outfit all the time would not feel the costume slot devouring problem, and that is understandable. Just throwing in another for the costume slots anonymous group.
I can deal with continuing to have just 5 costume slots, I was so surprised and pleased when we got that many, but I sure would not hesitate to fork over money for more.
I like the idea of more slots, but after reading the thread and thinking about it, I have to agree: even my most-beloved toons only seem to have four good costumes in them. Most of them have five open (or will when they level up high enough) but I always get stuck on the last one, if not the third or fourth. One of my two fifties has had her final slot changed like four times now and I'm still not happy with it.
Still, if it brought in easy money, I think it would be a good thing for the game.
So I was just checking some costume options and I suddenly realised that we now have more boosters than costume slots, and that's before we even start to consider the unlockable in game outfits such as Vanguard and Roman sets.
I guess that's pretty obvious when it smacks you in the face and of course not every character can use every costume option for a multitude of reasons, but it did suddenly strike me that 5 slots is pretty low for a game that essentially set the benchmark for costume creation and keeps raising the bar to the next level time and time again.
I don't know why we only have a max of 5 slots. Probably there's a technical limitation - database costs will almost certainly have a big part of it, but there's possibly some other issues I'm unaware of.
I guess one of the obvious questions is "how many slots is enough?" For me, it varies from character to character. Some characters only have 2 or 3 slots. Some have 5 and want 25. But I think I can speak for many in saying "more is better" when it comes to costumes.
But how to get them? What's feasible? My own feeling is that additional sets shoudln't just be doled out the way they have been until now. Five slots are very easy to earn so how about making remaining slots a bit more of a challenge? Maybe having to earn an accolade like Task Force Commander will unlock one new slot per character, for example.
Vet rewards might also be worth while. Say one Cossie slot per character for every 24 months subscription. That's an arbitrary number and I'm sure there are some that would say 12 months but that could very quickly double the strain on any back end given the number of longer term subscribers.
Personally I'd be happy to be able to purchase a slot or 2 as well, if the price was reasonable and I'm sure I'm not alone in that. Maybe even include an additional costume slot in new boosters with a commensurate cost. Give them as options perhaps. A booster for £5.99 with no costume slot, or for £7.50 with one.
I'm pretty sure there are countless other options and suggestions but it just seems sad to me that we've got so many costume options and comparatively few slots to play with them.
