Speedrunning one's In-Game Homework
Salvage:
Rare salvage I almost always store in the vault/base. Sometimes I sell it if I'm a couple million short for a resipe/other rare that i need.
Uncommon is up in the air... if it's plentiful on the market, I add mine to the pile, if it's in short supply, I hold onto it for when I need it, rather than paying out the nose later.
Commons - I keep some, like Alch. Silver which is almost ALWAYS in high demand (unless base/vault is full)... actually, the mid-level salvage has been in high demand lately - all the people playing their 50s - I'd keep a decent stash of those for when I need them, but they're a good way to make some quick inf. Otherwise I list commons for 11 inf. Less profit then vendoring? Yes. But it ensures they move somewhat quickly, and my market inventory goes up as I get more badges for selling lots of stuff, which means i can sell more at a time later.

Just a quick addition to my earlier comment. I was running a level 12 tonight and noticed her salvage was full. After the mission I took a quick trip to the BM in Port Oakes and dumped every piece of common salvage she was carrying on at rock bottom prices, and got 200K on immediate sales.
Of course that's chickenfeed for a marketeer, but that level 12 now has a nice bankroll for all of her lvl 15 DOs, and probably her lvl 20s as well. Not bad for five or ten minutes work.

It'll get faster as you get used to it. The invention system is kind of a large expository lump to get through.

Salvage? Nothing. I run nearly every toon with full salvage slots. If I wanna craft something arrange by quantity and delete the highest quantity.
It would be far better just to list for 1 to move your inventory faster. The tiny loss in profit will be greatly made up for by the fact that your market slots aren't constantly being clogged by junk items. 5,500 inf is basically nothing, not close to enough to worry about.

Sure, the loss is minuscule, but it's an actual net loss, rather than losing out on a potential gain (as is the difference between listing for 1 or 5 vs. 5000).

I list all my stuff at 5 inf, rather than 1. The only real difference is that if someone actually tries to purchase your item for 1 and you've listed for 1, you lose inf. Whereas someone purchasing your item for 5 that you listed at 5 means you neither gain nor lose anything.

...which might get me my extra market slots a couple of days quicker. Maybe. But I have to pay 4 INF per item for the privilege.

Off to go attempt to get rid of it all! Thanks, everyone.
Low level salvage, Magic or Tech: Drop on market for 300 inf. It'll sell sooner or later.
Mid level salvage, Tech: Check prices, sell for about what I would be offering if I needed to buy it.
Mid level salvage, Magic: HOARD. MAKE BIG PILES. FILL UP ALL THE MARKET SLOTS. THEY WILL NOT GET MY PRECIOUS.
High level salvage, Magic: Drop on market for 300 inf.
High level salvage, Tech: Sell to NPC vendors or delete for space.

4 inf x 5000 = 20,000 inf. I'd pay that in a heart-beat for more slots at the auction house.

I have to chuckle at people hoarding various items for varying reasons. I much prefer hoarding INF across various alts, and then spending it when I want to. I find it a LOT simpler to buy stuff when I know how much "cash" I have on hand, but that's just me.
Totally unscientific, anecdotal side note based on people I know and forum posts that I've read: it appears to me that a lot of the multi- and mega-billionaires in CoX tend to hoard INF whereas the people who hoard "stuff" often seem to be poor, or else to perceive that they are poor when in reality, they're not.
"How can you just afford to blow a billion plus on IOs for a character when you hit 47th level like that?"
"How can you NOT afford to finish IO-ing out your half-finished character when you hit 47th? You've got multiple sets of [insert various pricey IOs] filling up your base storage?!?"
"Well, they're for...and I MIGHT need them for...and they might go up in price...and I just started a new alt..."
There's thousands of ways to play the game, and none are wrong. My way works well for me, which is what counts. Your mileages may vary.

We do things which are not entirely rational. It's ok, it's a game. When the market started, I had to stop myself from buying thousands of things for 10 inf and selling them for 250 to a vendor. I knew it was stupidly small profit, but I got obsessive.
... oh, a PSA: At some point you will throw in an extra zero, or list ten mathematic proofs for the price you meant to use for a Luck of the Gambler, or otherwise lose a big chunk of money on the market due to operator error. Everyone's done it. You will get it back at some point. (Other people throw in extra zeroes too.) It's no big deal, just an expensive lesson.

I'm another one who lists just about everything for 5.

I use Mids to plan out my build so I have an idea of which recipes I should keep for myself. I put bids out for what I need and when the bids fill, the recipes are crafted and placed in my enhancement table until my toon is ready to slot it.
Like other folks, I get lvl 25-30 common or set IOs. These are cheap to craft and last until level 50. Out of curiousity, I wondered if a lvl 50 toon with lvl 25ish IOs would do ok in a speed ITF, and the answer is yes. My brute died twice during the cyst run, but held Rom's agro in the final mish. (He was the only melee.) He can also farm AE at +1x8 with smash/lethal dmg.
If you are lucky, you can get crafted common IOs cheaper than it would take to craft. See Crafted->Other.
It does take some time to craft at lv 25. If you use DO/SOs, you will need to buy them about 8 times during leveling to 50. Each time you do so, you throw away the cost of the old DO/SOs and pay for the new ones. By using common or set IOs, your cost is fixed and don't expire as you level.
