Oooh! That stuff kicks ***! I'm definitely going to have down some of their albums. It would work in a pinch for the game tonight, but I was looking for something a little more orchestral. Keep em coming!

I would like to point out that Iron Savior's schtick is writing all their albums about a self-aware Atlantean starship that destroys the world before repenting and becoming its defender. In a later album, the Iron Savior meets its creator, another self-aware starship, only this time with psychic powers.
Yes, the story is awesome like that. And it seems a decent fit for where you were headed.

Something orchestral for fighting a mad god imprisoned in a machine? Sounds like you need E. S. Posthumus to me!

So a brief summary of the game for anyone who cares (I love the way this game turned out, I can't resist sharing).
So the PC's learned a while back that a group of godlike, sentient stars known as the Solari, lead by a white giant named Korion, are about to launch an attack on the world, and have set out to warn as many people as they can about the impending war. Thing is, they got a tip from an old friend of theirs who said that he might have a way to win it before it even starts, and to meet him in the ruins of an ancient, out of the way city.
The friend in question? My old player character, a half Illithid, half angel artificer named Gnosis that was their adventuring buddy back before our old DM left and I took over. He's a complete Mary Sue, but the PC's like him so there weren't any hard feelings.
After braving their way through the city (which had literally come alive, and was trying to kill them), they met up with Gnosis, who explained that he found an ancient idol of Korion built millions of years ago during the first time the Solari attacked the world. The plan was to incarnate Korion into the idol, and then kill it, trapping his mind inside.
And that's exactly what they did. Korion was incarnated, the battle began, the completely broken and overpowered rogue somehow managed to do over 300 damage during the course of the encounter, and Korion looked finished, as he toppled into a chasm.
Too bad he was only pulling the Disney death, and came roaring back, at which point he crushed Gnosis beneath his feet, picked him up, bit him in half, and chucked his corpse at the rogue, who had an enormous crush on him. At this point the PC's made the wise move to GTFO, and booked it. Korion almost managed to kill the party's sorcerer, but due to some quick thinking from the rogue and the bard, escaped with only a pair of broken arms. At that point the enchantment wore off, and Korion was released back into the void.
And then he rose over the horizon, in his true form as a white giant star, summoned the other eight Solari, sent an army of abberant monsters hurtling down to earth in meteors, and provided the campaign with a MASSIVE cliffhanger that will unfortunately not be resolved until September.
And the best part? The party was level EIGHT when this happened.
Anything by E. S. Posthumus works really well (I use him for background music a lot in my games).

Vishnu:

Just search on YouTube for E S Posthumus and you'll find a ton of his music (he's done a lot). The first time I heard him was as the music used behind the trailer for the original Spiderman movie. Now I hear his stuff used all the time.
These are all excellent choices....if it's been put in PDF form, the old Dragon magazine had a great article (and spreadsheet) about music for all sorts of encounters, which I still use.

-- The Fox and the Hound
Being fond of metal, I tend to give all my villains suitable themes:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qCWa_BzBek
The Nothern Kings' cover of Radiohead's "Creep" for the spirit of a weather witch and necromancer possessing a young mage.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qCWa_BzBek
The Prowlers' cover of Ultravox's "The Voice" for a mind-controlling seudctress who had used an artifact to amplify her power to make a country think she was the heir to the throne of the kingdom, and the rightful princess was a rebel.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVHawH0V6EQ
Sonata Arctica's "The Boy Who Wanted to Be a Real Puppet" for a warrior so filled with hate and rage that upon his death his spirit enchanted his very armor, and over time that the evil within has grown so strong that a mere splinter of the original suit added to a weapon or armor will animate it. And the overall big-bad of the campaign has taken advantage of this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbwdTtRHQAU
AFI's "Miseria Cantare" as a general theme for the dark cult that all of my 'area boss' type villains are a part of, drawing upon the power of the Goddess of the Void.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hlb-0snyWWM
The music box portion of Dir En Grey's "Cage" for the aspect of the child-like Void goddess who is bound by the cult and is unable to control her power.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5DrW...eature=related
"Out of the Fire" by Type O Negative for my fire-themed warpriest.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Wh_WPX3iD4
For the role of "Evil Star God" Tristania's "Wormwood" comes to mind, a bit operatic, a bit orchestal, and very metal. Also has the requisite Ominous Latin Chanting that no true end-boss theme ought to be without.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNtYjTLcmDQ
And of course you can't have an Evil Robot God without me suggesting THE instrumental theme from a movie's Evil Robot God. Vince DiCola's "Unicron Medley" from Transformers: the Movie, the animated one from the 80's.
Until I see something that states to the contrary, going to assume VK is right .

I know it's way too late for the OP, but if anyone wants more good villain music, Two Steps From Hell would be worth checking out. A lot of their best stuff tends more towards the "heroic" side of epic music, but there's some suitably darker pieces like:

Reading the OP, my very first thought was "E.S. Posthumus". So I was very glad to see that two people already had mentioned them and both actually used Pompeii as samples. Pompeii is the kick *** song that kick *** songs listen to in order to feel cool.
Holy crap. This is PERFECT! Nyargh! I only wish I had known about it before the game, and I would have used it in a heartbeat! Oh well. The guy they were fighting isn't dead, and he still has eight other cronies that are yet to emerge, so I've got plenty of opportunities to use them in the future.

So tonight is going to be the last D&D game I run for a while, and I want to go out with a bang. Tonight my PC's are going up against the big bad of my campaign setting; Korion, who is a sentient star who leads a group of other stars known as the Solari, all of whom want to destroy the world (Why? Because Korion and the Solari want to be all-powerful creator gods, but the very presence of the world seems to cause everything they create to die or fade away. The PC's don't know this yet though.)
So anydangways, in order to defeat Korion they are going to incarnate him into an ancient magitek mecha, at which point he will hopefully be rendered mortal and able to be killed (the PC's are actually going to fail no matter what they do, but once again, they don't know that.)
Now all I need from you guys is some good music to play during this thing. So tell me. What kind of music do you think would sound good during a fight against a giant-robot-star-god-on-fire?
