Death of the Paragonian Knights

On Sunday, February 20th, The Paragonian Knights will be closing their doors forever.

One of Virtue's greatest SGs for six years, The Paragonian Knights just haven't been the same since our founder Grae Knight left the game for good last year. The current leadership, along with Grae Knight, have decided that it's better to burn out than fade away.
Thank you to everyone who played with us, enjoyed our channel, and made PK what it was for so long.

Holy crap, you guys are serious? Everyone in the Knights is quitting at the same time?

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

Thanks to Paragonian Knights for making my transition from Victory to Virtue seamless, I met a lot of great people. Sad to see it go, but I completely understand.

It's a sad day in Paragon City... I say we have one last hurrah somehow.

Wait...so that's it? No passing of the torch? You're all gonna just quit and let all that time and basework and stuff go to waste?!

What the ****, dude?! *Sigh* well, I guess it is what it is.

I'm sure they'd sell the base and resources off were someone willing to make an offer.

I've only been with Virtue a few months, but I'm sad to see a prominent SG leave like this. Sad times.

I think it's a mistake and someone should pick up the torch and continue this sg forward.

This makes me so sad....RIP Knights :takes off hat in affectionate gesture bowing head:

I have a hard time believing that no one in this long running SG is willing to continue running it in the same spirit is had when it was first founded.

Are you honestly telling me that's not a single person willing to even try to save it? That's not sad or disappointing. It skips right into pathetic. If the SG was as important and had as much of an impact as everyone says it has, then someone must be willing to keep it going.

Yes, I know I sound harsh, but I'm not seeing any reason they should burn out or fade away, when they could keep on existing successfully.

I guess the global financial crisis can affect seemingly strong and prominent Super Groups too.

I feel the same way but, to me, it feels like that once Grae took off to that other game, people were shocked that a longtime founder and player just upped and walked away from the group he built around his character.

In my opinion, someone should take the reigns and reboot the group. Not just a reboot with new leaders, a total reboot... storywise too.

The way I see it is that the Paragonian Knights are a "franchise," much like Star Trek. Even the original series came to a close, but the franchise was still in the hearts of people. What happened? Spin off after successful spin off were presented to the world.

And why were the spin-off's successful? They kept the basic concept of the show and wiped the slate clean by giving the audience something fresh and new and not something rehashed.

This is what the Paragonain Knights need. They need to let the franchise go to someone that will take the reigns and keep the name alive, but will also have the chance to make the new version better than the original. (Once again, I think people were too hurt over Grae's leaving to even bother trying to live Grae's story.)

Even though I've never been a member of the "PK" I feel that Virtue losing this franchise would be a big hit to the community. Let someone rebuild the franchise and let the name live on, even if the "original series" is no longer on the air.

pohsyb: so of all people you must be most excited about the veats
Arachnos Commander: actually, I am

Yeah, I agree with Kiana and Commander: I've missioned and such with a few PK members from time to time, and I seriously doubt that just because Grae left everybody decided "Okay shows over let's post on the forum, cause a big ruckus, and let the PK die out."

If you guys are as awesome as I once thought you were (considering I wanted to join them at one point or another) then you should easily be able to keep the SG going. The loss of ONE person, founder or no, should not bring about the death of an entire SG. As I recall, the PK had more than just the Grae Knight in it, so what about everyone else? I highly doubt each and every member feels that there is nothing left in the PK without Grae.

But if that's the case, then I truly lost all respect for them. Sounds harsh, I know, but it's true: Groups reboot all the time. To them, their leaders are just as influential as Grae was, and yet they still get by if said leader leaves.

But don't let me stop you. If you all truly believe the PK should die off, then just make sure you do one very important thing: Release the SG name for someone else who wants to try and keep the same spirit of the original group. Would be a shame to have one person with one alt sit there with the name just because you don't want anybody ever again to use the name.

I think the SG and it's members should do what they wish and not listen to the cries and pleas of the forums.

You could just work it into your story that Grae Knight died. Make some kind of memorial in the base, and keep it going.

Love me or hate me, it's still an obsession.

Sad to see you guys go. Just the other week I was teamed with one of your guys, and someone in the group was asking about joining. Still, you gotta do what you gotta do. I'd love to see the group continue under new leadership, but it's your call.

And guys, let's not judge them so harshly. Like I said, I'd like to see them continue, but we don't know what's going on within the group. There could be any number of reasons for them to disband, and none of them are our business. Let's let them do what they feel is right, and hope maybe they work out a way for the SG to continue.

going to have to agree with Toony here , if the SG wants to disband thats their bussiness I appreciate them letting us know and im sad to see it happen but sometimes its really for the best to disband and try something new .

Bummer for those getting their walking papers. Hope you don't get too many recruiting spam tells . Those who want or need to stay together can... prestige is not the major hurdle it used to be and the function of bases is diminished, So this isn't so bad. I'm sure there's plenty of folks around who'd help with SG names if needed.

The PKs were always pretty much a cult of personality, though, and I'm surprised they managed as they did.

Best of luck to all.

If there's more to the story that you don't wish to talk about here, then that's fine. I was just stating my opinion based on the information given.

As a long-time member of the Paragonian Knights, I'm sad to hear that we're disbanding, but I'll respect their decision. It mainly boils down to inactivity. Like BDD said in the original post, the group just hasn't been the same as it used to.

As for me, I'll still going to be playing the game, whether it's as a Knight, a member of another SG, maybe a personal SG so I can try out base building, or perhaps just independently of any group. Whatever the case, I will always have fond memories of the friends I've made and the adventures we've had.

Geeze... you guys're gonna be missed. I mean ya'll had a real presence in Paragon, an' yer leavin' big shoes ta walk in. It takes more'n war walls t' fornicate a city, so all them new kids had better step up an' take their load. Good luck t' ya. I wish ya th' bestest.

((Sad to hear, but I completely understand. Good luck to the players and thank you Knights for helping make this server what it is today.))

Look, these things happen. Six years is a long time for any type of clan to be active for any online game when most burn out within a few weeks. You all have to remember that City Of Heroes is only a game after all; people grow up or their priorities change, it's just the way of the world. Frankly, I feel players invest too much into their online lives. I'm saying this because I used to. Now, school and other aspects of my life in the real world have supplanted this once enjoyable diversion. I don't mean any of this as a slight against any of you who still invest a little more into this game than others, I'm just trying to point out why this has happened.

As for how they're going about it? I think it's great. They're calling it quits and ending everything before their S.G. that they care about becomes lost to the void of inactivity. I'm in a formerly very large S.G. that has become almost entirely inactive. I know for a fact that almost every S.G. mate was/is a college student, it seems all of us realized at some point that we either neglect our real lives and continue to live in the fantasy world we created or we expend our energy with what we should be expending our energy on.

I love City Of Heroes, it's the only game I've bought and played since 2003 (using a new account here). It was a good ride, but now I can't justify playing anymore because of real life priorities that are dependent on my hard work and attention. I'm pretty sure many of the Paragonian Knights are experiencing the same thing (aside from switching games). Remember everyone, one day City Of Heroes' servers will go dark. Seeing as this game is already 7 years old and that there is new competition out there, I have little doubt that we'll be seeing the end in the next 2-3 years anyway.

Kudos to you, Paragonian Knights, for ending things when you should.
