Basic Questions on Teaming

Though I'm not a "newb" per se, it has been about three years since I've last played, and I had some questions about the changes made. When I click "Find Members" to find people for a team, I see people with yellow and purple names now.. What do those colors mean? Also, when someone asks me to "Send tell to team leader," I'm not exactly sure how to go about that... I've clicked the "Chat with Team Leader" option, but I still see the same person's name when I type in the tell.

I know these are really basic questions and I'm sorry for such newbish-ness. Thanks, though!

I'll admit, the colored name bit still has me confused to this day, but check here and it'll give you the info you need.

As for the "Chat to team leader" bit, it will show that player's name, but there's a new slash command that will send a tell to their team leader. I believe it's /ttl. As long as that shows in front of the player's name, it'll send a message to the team leader.

Thanks, Clan, that link was really helpful! And its still proper etiquette to simply "/ttl Character, Hey I'm a level X Archetype, can I join your team?"

I was PM'ing a lot of people last night and getting no luck for a team, and I wasn't sure if I was being rude or anything. Was probably just bad luck, hah.

I would suggest sending tells only to the guys on search with purple names. These are the only people who are leading a team which has space to can invite you.

Failing that you could always send tells to blues and yellows (i.e. free or on mish map) and ask if they want to join you.

Sending tells to team leaders with full teams to ask if there's space may not get a favourable response. Asking them if they can have a space if one opens up may get a better reaction coz at least it proves you are using the tools provided.

Though I have to admit the fact that there is no legend for the colours in the team search window is a fact I find very strange. The number of times I've caught myself trying to recall what colour means what makes it seem like an obvious addition to me.

They have added the ability to click on the person's name in the chat window, and from there one of the new options in the pop up is to " Send [PersonName]'s team leader a message "

Back when I had the need-to-team character, the phrasing I used was "Does your team have any use for a level X Force Field defender?" Now I stacked the deck, because I was playing Force Fields and I was sending tells to Blasters before the invention system, but I generally got pretty good responses.

Note the Adam Smith phrasing: "It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker, that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own self-interest. We address ourselves, not to their humanity but to their self-love, and never talk to them of our own neccessities but of their advantages."

Tell-team-leader. It's /ttl

Yes, and I was saying for those who don't want to type it all in, there is the simple "click on the person's name in chat window" option.

The only thing I consider rude about that kind of tell is if I get multiple tells from the same person after I've told them I'm not looking for any one else on the team.

As to why you didn't get any responses last night there could be a couple of explanations.

Maybe the leader was busy and didn't see the tell when it came thru and it scrolled out of sight.

Maybe the leader has a tab that doesn't have Tells as a channel. I do that with Broadcast.

Maybe the leader had been receiving a lot of tells and decided to ignore them.

Maybe the leader was in the middle of a TF and couldn't invite anyone anyway. (You'd be surprised how many times people demand that players should start over from scratch and invite them)

Maybe the leader was between missions and doing something like leveling up, using the market, at the tailor etc.

Maybe the leader was doing a social event like inviting people for base tours or some such thing.

Maybe the leader was in the middle of a raid or zone event, but that goes back to the first one of being busy.

I hope you have better luck in the future, and welcome back to the game.

BAS, have you joined your server's most active global channels?

They have really become a great teaming resource for lots of folks. Many times, a little "hey, could anyone use a lvl 24 scrapper for anything?", will garner some kind of response. Also, folks have been using server channels to collect teams for almost everything from mishes to TF's.

I highly recommend checking out which channels are most active on your server. Sometimes, they have to change up the channels to free up space, so you may want to double check. Most of the server specific forums have them listed somewhere... or, just pop in and ask.

The problem is that popular server channels are often full, and that newbies don't know about the server channels. Only folks who show up here on the forums know about the server channels.

Some possible solutions:

1. Have the devs make a permanent, server wide channel for each server. This would work like /request (which I think is server wide), but be purposed for teaming and such.

2. Increase the player limit for player channels. 2.5k is way too low. The problem with /request is it can become filled with spam and is a pain for Paragon to manage. Player manged channels spread the work of managing the channel and tend to be less spam filled.

Actually, /request is only the current zone. It was, I gather, the trade chat before the implementation of the consignment houses.

Thanks a lot everyone I really appreciate the responses; I'll be sure to look into those channels for Victory. Now that we're on the subject, anyone have use for a 42 controller? Hahaha..thanks again!

The most active globals channels for Victory are as follows:

Victory Forum
Victory Badges (this one is full)
Victory Badges 2009 (this is the overflow channel for Victory Badges)

I would recommend joining those.

You're kidding me.... people actually do that!
I mean, I've restarted some Masters of task forces that had fail as long was we weren't too far in. And of course, restarts due to difs being set too low or high but outside of once when we switched players I've never seen it done.

That's just crazy...

You haven't read through the "Rude Tells" thread, have you?

The global channels are really important.
I tend to tell people I see getting fustrated by broadcasting only for a team about them, or anytime advicew flies about for new players.

The /ttl seems a bit buggy im my experience, often going to the same (non leader) person anyway.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

That link is awesome, thanks!

What is the color of the leader on a full team? Grey?

I've been playing for a year and one of the things that I noticed is that folks just want to join teams, not lead one. Unfortunately, there are much, much more joiners than leaders and more often than not, teams are full but there's still a lot of people looking to team. In fact, I see team crying in broadcast like this:
Toon1: Lvl 20 brute lft
Toon2: Lvl 22 dom lft
Toon3: Where is the facemaker?
Toon4: south of the map
Toon1: Lvl 20 brute lft
Toon5: Lvl 25 mm lft
Toon2: Lvl 22 dom lft
Toon6: Hecatomb for sale, pst w price
Toon5: Lvl 25 mm lft
Toon1: Lvl 20 brute lft
Toon7: Lvl 18 scrapper lft
Toon2: Lvl 22 dom lft

As you can see, 4 toons looking for team, and not one of them will take up the gauntlet and lead.
I played in Triumph, a low population server, and am able to run a team with at least 4 people everytime I log there.

I tried a couple nights ago on Victory to get a team for my FF Defender and her partner, also a FF Defender. Broadcasted on, I think it was, Victory Badges2009, asking if any teams had need for a pair of bubblers. The response was something like: "Most teams don't need one, why would they need two?"

Decided after that to just be content to solo or duo there (mine had already mostly soloed all the way to 32 anyway.)
