That's something else, too. The Cape saves that store owner, and the Secretary of Prisons or whatever his position was, both found out his name, and yet they never show anything on the news about "the mysterious vigilante known as 'The Cape'." Our own "real-life superheroes" get more publicity.

Yes, but I guess it's possible she put her career on hold to be a mom. Stranger things have happened in super hero storylines.

I'm hoping that will start to develop myself, but I didn't mind that they hadn't focused on it too much in the first episode(s)

I loved this show. Yes, it's campy, and that's a good thing. We needed a real comicbook-like TV show. Heroes and No Ordinary Family have proven that 'realistic' TV shows about superpowered people suck.

What thrills me the most is that The Cape did two things exactly right.

One is colorful characters. Other 'superhero' shows have had characters as bland as paste. Some people were complaining that The Cape himself is a bit boring, but you gotta admit he's more interesting than Peter Petrelli. All the villains and supporting characters on The Cape are colorful and memorable. Yes, that means they have to be campy but that's okay. The show is doing a good job with character design so far.

More important than that, however, is that this show knows what a superhero is. A superhero is not someone with powers. He's not someone who saves people. Heroes save people. Superheroes inspire people to save themselves. That seems to be the theme of this show, from inspiring The Cape's son to inspiring the prison director to stand strong. A superhero has to be a symbol, and the writers of this show understand that. Well done.

I hope this show survives. It has some rough edges, but its heart is in exactly the right place.

I predicted that as well... once there was a female, I predicted she was Orwell, and once Orwell was revealed, I immediately jumped to his daughter. But seriously, if she wants to run 'under the radar', she needs a less flashy car. AND to be a little less Hot.......

Don't hate me, I really didn't like it. I couldn't finish watching it.
To me, it felt like they knew it wasn't good so they then decided to play up the "camp" to hide the lack of overall quality in script/production/acting.

SYFY aired The Cape tonight (last night?) 12-2 am EST. Not sure if that's a good thing or the kiss of death for the show.

It was already scheduled. It will or already been shown on USA as well. USA and SyFy are NBC, I mean Comcast owned so often a premier of a new, somewhat quirky series is also shown there. They've done it most recently with The Event.

Yeah but I still don't know if showing The Cape on those channels is good or bad yet.

The hero is a dumb ***, who should have died with the first knife shot at him from that incredibly inconvievable machine. And how does 'time' flow in that world anyways? It looked like he was able to master the cape, escape artistry, disapearing in smoke, hypnotism, and "dwarf-quan-do" in a matter of days, yet it takes that council man 5-10 minutes to even begin to eat his meal!

I also how he sets up his secret lair in some abandoned house that is squater free, broods how to save the councilman, and immediately cuts to him in mortal danger and saved by Orwell.

OK, I'll stop being critical and get back to work. Thanks for letting me vent.
What you said. I really wanted to like this show and it'd be nice if it gets better, but so many things from the fast-fast-skipthisplotpoint-skipthatplotpoint-let'steamup pacing to the aforementioned inability of the super-secret blogger Orwell to be, well, super-secret (and I wonder exactly when they're gonna drop the "bombshell" about Chess being her father, or something) to the weird story omissions (if Chess knows where the Circus of Crime is, how did they get away and stay gotten away?), the show just strains my believability too far.

To wit: I don't care how much they want this to be Batman-y, there is no way Max is "disappearing" from a chair in the middle of a group of bad guys like the way he did or no way The Cape can "reappear" to a skyscraper roof top without powers? Why didn't they just give him powers or make the cape magical or...something...?

I'll keep watching cuz I have nothing better to do on my commute and I do hope it gets better, the way most shows do when they get more footing.

Movie serial killers can do it. Why not a hero?

Signed. Actually I'm gonna chime in with a few comments.

Someone upthread mentioned that because it was a superhero show she was predisposed to like it anyway. I'm so "this" too. Frankly I'd been looking forward to the premiere despite a measure of dread for it being horrible.

It wasn't horrible, but I agree with it feeling rushed and jammed. The show also feels a little gimmicky to me. I mean I know that's hard to say when one of your favorite characters is named Green Lantern 'cause the energy he wields is derived from a...uh..green lantern...but still. Perhaps if Cape's cape felt more like part of his costume and evocative of a presence like Batman or Daredevil try to exude, instead of an offensive/defensive weapon that just HAPPENS to wrap around you...AND be light and bulletproof...it'd feel less like a gimmick to me.

Oh and not to go off on a tangent, but bonus points to anyone who knows "the supercape of Nova!". Yes, Nova was a published character. I can say no more.

The characters seem okay but they REALLY need time to get fleshed out. Again, back to the "rushed, jammed" feel of the pilot. In short, I think we're off to a good, if not great, start. IMHO it'd be smart to start building up the rogues gallery and balancing those introes out with some character building. Don't be afraid of the "bad guy of the week" concept...it made the "Batman" TV series a household name for 40 years...but TV audiences are more sophisticated now and need - nay DEMAND! - some character development along with their "Biff, Bam, Pow!"

I wish you luck, Vince Farraday. We'll be checking you out from our headquarters.

Yeeeeah...I don't think he knows as much as he lets on yet...but he DOES seem to have crammed a lot in to a very little timeframe.

But hey, I don't think your comments are overly critical...just things superheroic fans tend to overlook IMHO.

SNL did a spoof last night that started off with The Scarf and The Smock, then devolved into a bunch of wacky superheroes involving clothing items.
