Maybe, but in-game, Praetoria is referred to as an alternate dimension. (Repeatedly.) Therefore, alternate dimension is what I go with. Who am I to argue with the people who live in Paragon City, have studied it extensively, and who have personally gone there themselves?

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)

I started this game when GR came out and began in Praetoria... Not knowing jack about the lore it was a very confusing experience to say the least, lol.

Seemed to me GR should have been an expansion for high level players. Of course I understand the lore now- it is still very hard for me to get over that first experience. It's like you get all into the story of Praetoria then boom thrown into Atlas Park with my luggage.

From that point the game felt very odd. There I was level 20 dropped into the middle of the Primal Earth storyline.

I'm a die hard and stuck with the game and it's been fun. But I can easily see where new players who went through my experience would go "WTF just happened?"

Did give me a bit of bad taste though. Seen it before- delve out 20 levels of higher quality content then dropped into lower quality content. Bit of bait and switch I dunno really hard to figure out what they were thinking. If it was designed to bring in new players. Didn't they think it would be confusing as hell once they left Praetoria?

If I remember my science right, then the current theory is that changing history through time travel is impossible as anything you change immediately creates an entire new reality.

I noticed last night a reinforcement of the multiverse and doppleganger theory when I first made my way to Primal Earth. Some dude is all like "oh you been baaaaad, me'sa goin to arrest you! rabble rabble rabble" (that's my own paraphrasing) and I was like "wha?" and he says "you been seen doin da bad stuff all over this country AND comin back here to do good. you lie. you goin to the hoosegow!". I wasn't havin this and told this lawdog that he be wack since I'm not even from this place. Well his top boss tells him my other self was just seen being a hero WHILE he was talking to me. Yeah, the dude zipped his lip.

Dopplegangers. Can't live with them... and, uh, thats it. Those jerks always get you in trouble.

I'd never thought of it from that PoV... but welcome to the game. I guess until GR introduced a whole bunch of new blood to the game most of the audience were existing long term players who knew the lore well (or at least grasped the back story) and GR was aimed at giving them a new leveling experience (there have been many complaints about both sides first 20 levels - but I won't get into that here)

The fact you've stuck around suggests you're enjoying the experience and you can always go through the first 20 levels on a hero and villain for comparison just to see what it's like.

Personally all my new toons inevitably start in Praetoria, primarily because the stories are richer and the challenges are a bit tougher too.

Well, you do get a short briefing on Primal Earth just before you escape from Praetoria - although it's more about the enemies you'll meet rather than any of the storylines they're invovled in

Yeah, that bugs the crap out of me. Almost as much as the writers' continual use the imaginary word "alright." God, that freakin' thing is *everywhere*, but is especially abused in GR.

These issues contain the "Smoke and Mirrors" arc written by Troy Hickman (Whose Twilight Guardian #3 is currently hitting the stands--mandatory plug for ol' Troy ).

Not only is that the best depiction of Statesman in the comics, it also explains the origin of the statue in front of the train station in Kings Row, which is pretty awesome. Usually Statesman is depicted as impossibly arrogant and a jerk. Troy's depiction attempted to segue that into an interesting, human but noble Statesman, and I liked it a lot.

(The Blue King run of the comics did not feature Statesman so much.)

I like playing Heroes. Stick with the good guys!
Yeah, this really leads to a point that should mentioned. Most of the forums will tell you, with no little amount of justification, that Statesman is a ******. Not the developer, though he gets his own levels of hate around here. No, the character is a ******. If you want conflict as to whether or not you can trust him, Praetorian is a perfectly acceptable option. But, there's a much easier reason to not trust him: he's untrustworthy.

The badge artwork means nothing, I always thought it was just left over from when it was mandatory that Loyalists were the villains, and Resistance were heroes.

There's an equal or greater possibility that we like them regardless of purpose.

Bah! It's all propaganda to keep the war-machine moving. Pay no attention to the lies.

Great news is that after coming to Primal Earth, hero or villain, you can start beating up Praetorians in tip missions and later upon reaching 50 start foiling their evil invasion in earnest.

Hopefully we'll be able to really take the fight to Praetoria in the future. Perhaps as Incarnates we'll be able to drain Tyrant's powers and bring that madman to justice. Justice meaning a Headsplitter to the nose!

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

What sort of Praetorians do you fight in the lower level ones? I've only done the level 50 Tips, and Maeltrom is the only stromtrooper I've encounted.

Yes, we will take Tyrant for "processing".

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"

"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."
