Population Decline

I know that the economy is not so hot right now. But coming back to
CoH after about a year on the Champion server has been disappointing. The population is not what is use to be.
I go on the Freedom And Infinity servers and the population seems to be thriving.
I think that Paragon studios is going to have to take steps and maybe merge some servers.
I bought GR and I can tell you that is practically a ghost town except for the NPCs.
I don't want to transfer all of my toons cause is going to cost me a pretty penny.

Are you on any global channels? Those help, plenty of people to play with there.

Its all about quality, not quantity.

WB

Are you in BMT global channel? I am not sure how long you have been back, but it is the Holiday season so many people have been AFK.

Once DCUO comes out there might be players who will migrate to that game.
thereby losing more subscribers. Please NCsoft think about.
Uh, no.

I have to agree here. They may not be in the zone you are in. And with the implementation of incarnates, my global list is full of ppl on their 50's so there is a very real chance they will not be in Praetoria.

There is a list of global chat channels that you can peruse at your leisure. BMT of Champion and Champions United are the most likely candidates for all your teaming woes. A few SGs have chat channels as well that are open for joining iirc.

Join some and I'm sure you'll reevaluate just how much the server pop has dropped. It's never been more full.

LOVE YOU CHAMPS!

We like our server the way it is, if you don't then perhaps you should move residence to another.

Space reserved for a super awesome Signature, someday...

You should get mod smacked...it is against the EULA to compare COH to ANY OTHER MMO - even if you don't mention the MMO name (which you did) - it is against the EULA to compare COH to any other MMO...

that being said - free server transfers will probably happen in Jan...move to freedom if you like to pvp, move to virtue if you like to rp...or stay @ champ if you like the peeps -

BUT NEVER COMPARE COH TO ANY OTHER MMO _ THEY CAN'T Handle it.

That would be nice, although not for their intended purpose

Champion is still fun, contraction is the nature of MMOs. Outright server merg will not happen, it's gamings version of g/o/o/business, free server transfers have been offered during special periods for over a year.

DCUO might drag some players away, but I've been in it's beta a few months and I've played more coh in that time then I have the last two years combined.

Don't fret young man, grab a pint of mead, sit back and enjoy some tasty bacon.

Funny. I've been playing for three years now, and while it seems slightly lower than it was when I began, the population on Champion now seems far higher than it was just a year ago.

Thank you, Champion.

In some ways, this is a good thing.

'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.

*cough* Actually it's against the forum rules to discuss other video games in the forums; nothing to do with the EULA. There's no reason to expect free transfers in the foreseeable future since nothing has been said about them one way or the other since the period after the GR launch.

So true. i've only occasionally logged onto Champion lately to join teams started by global friends, mostly sparing Champion from my misbegotten presence, and Skyppy the Borderline Incompetent Wonder Twit is unlikely to ever return since he's still busy annoying players on Virtue. Not to mention he's established a pattern of dropping CoH to go try the latest MMO for a couple months and then slinking back to restart his prestige mills. At least when he left Champion he was considerate enough to kick the various SG members before going.

The Champion server population, and indeed every server's population, is definitely down from the 2005-2006 heyday, but it's still thriving. I see many more people on now than a year ago. A server merge is about one of the worst things that NCSoft could do. Champion is Champion. Freedom is Freedom. Virtue is Virtue. If I wanted to play on Freedom or Virtue, I would. But Champion is my home.

Now, the Champion server population may decrease a bit next week, as will all server populations. However, Champion will still be here, as will I. I won't be playing City of Heroes as much starting next week, but I fully intend on splitting my game time between.... that... and here. I know I'm not the only one.

I've always said that I'll never be drawn away from this game, only driven.

Funny, almost every day I log in, Champion has had two gold dots on its population rating. This in contrast to the one green dot I'd always see a year ago. The population has clearly grown.

We've all become dual boxers so we can avoid the "impendin'" server merge/purge in the future.

If you're playing villainside, GL HF trying to find someone to play with. Back when free transfers were up, most of the villain player base move to Freedom.

If you're not a hero player, you won't see much action on the Rogue Isles.

Not for nothing, but the dots are not necessarily an indication of population. They are an indication of server load. The new location the servers were moved to in July 2010 seem to be a bit more unstable than the old ones and have shown a relatively higher load since the change (even on the lowest population servers)... so it's not really a clear comparison.

What can I say. I only play here.

Irrelevant to server population. Maybe you haven't heard, but characters can change sides now.

In my experience the population has increased since Going Rogue came out. I've seen quite a few resubs and a bunch of new people showing up. The promise of actual end-game content will help with player retention as well.
