81 Month Vet Reward Idea

I've looked around for someone else suggesting this as I'm sure someone must have but my search fu must be weak since I can't find it. So, just incase no one has suggested this before I offer up, ahem:

81 Month: Icon Forever
For the 81 month veteran reward, players receive the Icon Forever badge and a temporary power that lets them access Icon/Facemaker wherever they are in the City. This power
can be used once every hour.

My idea is that using it would be online shopping at an exclusive Icon website either on a laptop or iPad!

Best idea ever!

Good idea actually. Mildly useful without giving any meaningful advantage.

I love this idea, but I do have a problem with it.

Why a 1 hour cool down? o.O

How about a 5 minute cooldown, if any cooldown at all.

Do you really need to redesign your costume more than once an hour?

I was just trying to bring it inline with other temporary powers like the workstation power you can get. 1 hour maybe a bit long though, so I reckon it could be shorter without being game breaking

The idea of a temp power that would allow us to use the tailor anywhere is hardly a new idea.
I've seen people making this suggestion on and off for years now.
Doesn't mean its not always a good idea for a Vet award.
I'm almost surprised it hasn't happened yet.

As far as the "cooldown" goes there's really no reason why it couldn't be once every 5 minutes.
The 63 month Vet Power Reveal only has a 5 minute cooldown.
This tailor power could work the same way.

I've always thought it was funny that people who don't bother with costumes too much can never understand that there are some people who play this game with the primary interest of making as many costumes as possible. It's simply another subset of player just like the people who like to build bases, who like to run Hami raids every day, who like to PvP, who like to collect badges, who like to PL level 50 characters, who like to RP in Pocket D and so on.

Uhh. Is this a trick question?

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

I'd say don't give it a cooldown at all. Most people I know who are really into costumes tend to do incremental changes they make a change see how it looks and then go back into the editior to tweak things a bit more.

Or people who like to post on the forums.

Anyway, yeah ok, good idea, consider it done. oops, sorry, I don't have that power.

I love the pictures and I think this is a fantastic idea for a Vet Power.

One of the day job powers you get from the AE buildings is a mission editor you can use anywhere. Is there a cool down timer on that power?

With Power Customization its rather easy to make color choices that look great in the Tailor screen but once out in the "real world" you can find those color picks are an eyesore. Being able to change the colors of your powers in the middle of a lowbie hazard zone and seeing how those color choices look in daylight and at night while blasting lowbie enemies would be a nice perk.

YES.

This is a suggestion I can get behind.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

I'm against it because it is gating a QOL enhancement behind vet rewards.

This, plus anything like a notoreity anywhere or AE anywhere or arena anywhere should be implemented as universal features or accolades, like the latter were.

Putting exlusive abilities to 6+ year vet rewards is a bad idea. They're basically at the sweet spot with what they have been doing recently, things like bonus storage or patrol XP that can be a minor advantage but not create jealousy or put off newbies.

I do like what you called the badge and would propose something like a permanent 50% discount stackable with other discounts.

A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!

+1 Suggested the same idea a few mouths ago.

Has been suggested, often as a Base addition, for centuries. Yes, that's since before the computer was invented. We went back in time to retroactively suggest it!

The reason you'd want the cooldown to be relatively short should be obvious: if you want to edit more than one costume slot at a time, each slot constitutes a different tailor invocation. If there's even a 5 minute cool down, it's likely to annoy people.

Disclaimer: The above may be humerous, or at least may be an attempt at humour. Try reading it that way.

Create TWO: The non-vet one has an HOUR cooldown, and can be used 5 times. Add it as a temp power in game that can be crafted. The Vet one no cooldown and a 50% discount.

Not sure if this is possible, but how about having each slot have it's own cool down timer?

I understand the problem with making something that many people have asked for being gated behind a high numbered month Vet Award. But if you take a step back you could probably make that argument about anything the Devs chose to make as a new Vet Award at this point. Really what you're ultimately implying here is that NOTHING is going to be truly acceptable as a new Vet Award because there would always be some portion of the player base who would declare it to be "unfair".

Ultimately a tailor temp power as a new Vet Award would upset some people, but in the grand scheme of things it'd be a much more reasonable Vet Award than many other more "unfair" ideas. Ironically if they made a tailor temp power unlockable by anyone (like for instance the way the AE tablet or portable workbench is) you'd probably upset a different subset of people who hate all "unlockable" things in this game. The Devs are never going to be able to please everyone regardless.
