The only MM summons that 'make sense' are the Necromancy one and the Demon ones. And even then only really the Demon ones if your, say, on the second story of an office block. Because I'm damn sure that its unlikely for there to be fresh corpses there, although the same dark portal arguement can probably be used there.

It's a case of 'having them just appear would be dull and lame'. And, hey, I can always imagine my Bots teleporting in instead. Or, y'know, my Assault Bot physically crashing through the roof to deploy.
Wish we could pick alternate animations for the summons. C'est la vie...

Ideally, every power would look exactly how its user would want it to. Will that ever happen? Sure...when the Devs have automated robo-slaves to do all the coding and animation 24/7 all year round that can make it so. Until then, it's a matter of time and priority.

TL;DR
If I have to put up with non-customisable bots, you can put up with imagining SJ is line-swinging

Obviously "comic book magic" makes that work. Physics would not have to be accounted for.

I couldn't care less about Spidey making a web parachute that let him float DOWN to the ground. That has nothing to do with a web-based object that would let somebody fly UP from the ground.

But even if you let "comic book magic" allow a kite-like object to lift someone UP off the ground for that to be imagined as the reasonable "workaround" for an anchorless swingline that EVERYONE in this game would use as a generic travel power is just plain stupid. Sorry, but it really is just very silly.

The idea of explaining away realistic physics problems by falling back on the virtual crutch of "it's a comic book game so anything should be possible" is simply a lazy and insufficient way to try to justify this. I'm just glad the Devs of this game appear to also realize how dumb this is (probably by seeing how bad it looks in that "other" game) and have made the wise decision to not even try to bother with it.

Nice try but your attempt to twist the meaning of what the devs actually said has failed miserably.

The devs have always said they would like to do power customization, and as soon as they had the time and resources they gave it to us just like they said they would. They never said it wasn't going to happen.

It would look much stupider if they swung across the zone on lines attached to invisible angels flying overhead.

Then we are in agreement that the travel powers in CoX do not require realistic explanation since, as you pointed out, there is insufficient justification for the current Super Jump physics and, IMO, it looks fairly silly when leaping over large bodies of water.

For the record most zones will allow for “anchored” swing lines since there are large buildings or structures (bridges, electrical towers, giant statues, war wall struts) scattered around the core areas of the zones. The only issue is over water where the regular laws of physics apparently need not apply. Who knows though; maybe Paragon City and the Rogue Isles could start investing in offshore wind farms.

Stupid Science Skyhook 1: The hero discovers a way to generate stable portals, from any location, but other end is always in his lab, next to the machine that actually generates the effect. They're also limited to about two feet across. Aside from being useful for yelling through to get his shop assistant to hand him his lunch (which he forgot,) the inventor can't think of much this would be good for. Until it occurs to him to put something very large and very, very heavy next to the portal, and then invent a device capable of attaching and detaching to this object on command.

Ta-da! Every time he fires the skyhook, it activates the portal generator. The grappling hook hits the anchor block which is immediately on the other end of the portal, providing a stable anchor to an object which is both too large and too heavy to pull through the opening. (And is also close enough to the opening to keep the bad guys from crawling through into his lab. Although this does have the disadvantage of preventing his assistant from being able to use the portal to hand him his lunch. Which the hero has forgotten. Again.)

Stupid Science Skyhook 2: The inventor has discovered a way to generate a totally impenetrable force field, and to do so with a very very small device. The force field has several disadvantages though. First, it's totally immovable, relative to the surface of the most massive nearby object. (Which would normally be the surface of the planet.) Second, the forcefield is smaller than the device that projects it, or in this case about the size of a large marble. As a defensive item or a weapon, it's totally useless, but it makes a lovely pivot point for a skyhook.

Magic Skyhook: It's *magic.* Which mean, pretty much by definition, that it works despite any rational reason to the contrary.

Great Ideas, ShadowsBetween.

Alternate animations of different items attached to the end of the swingline would provide different methods (Tech or Magic) of swinglines, with no buildings or large structures needed to attach to.

4 different versions of the same power:

1: Dimensional Portal (could be explained by Tech or Magic)
2: Energy Platform (Tech looking version, platform generated by a device at the end of the cable)
3: Energy Platform (Mystical looking version, with an energy tendril as the “cable”)
4: Anti-gravity unit with stabilizing thruster jets (uses the animation from the Rocket Boots costume piece)

I wasn't insinuating. The devs always said they would like to add power customization when they had the time and resources. What you should have used as your example was the devs position on Fitness. They originally said they'd rather get rid of Stamina altogether before they'd make Fitness inherent, but now we have inherent Fitness.

Heh, snap.
And yes, Forbin is correct. As is usually the case, damn his squirelly, guiness swigging self.

You're the one twisting words. Whenever it was mentioned as a possibility it was always put in terms of "if", not "when". Before Positron's teaser image posted before the I16 announcement, there was never any hint that PC had any place on the schedule.

Not as good an example, but it does serve as further proof that the devs can and do go back on "no" positions from time to time. And one is all it takes.

Look, as a launch-day veteran I realize that it gets tiring at times to see a suggestion get made repeatedly. But no amount of weariness on our part can impose an obligation on others to stop making or supporting those suggestions, not even when the developers say no to them. We're allowed (and in fact, encouraged) to try to change their minds.

Ok, this can be simplified very easily;

-The Devs already know some people want swinglines.
-If we get them, we get them.
-If we don't get them, we don't get them.
-Until we DO get them, there's little point bringing it back up and people kvetching over it, because it's a know request.

Simples, eh?

You really expect us top believe that you don't understand the difference between the devs saying "if we get the time and resources" and "No. It would take to long and look stupid."

Duh. That's how all features work in this game. They don't talk about what's on the schedule. We never know what they have planned unless they pull something from an issue for more work or something gets released for advertisement. They like keeping secrets. We have no clue what coming for issues 20, 21, 22 . . . Get used to being in the dark.

It's the only example of anything the devs actually said they wouldn't do that ended up in the game.

This is the suggestion forum where we are encouraged to tear apart bad or flawed ideas in the hopes the suggester can make them better or realise why they won't work. I know you may get weary from having all your ideas shot down by the general player base but if you just wanted to try to change the devs minds you should have sent them a PM.

I have to respectfully disagree here TA. Based on the nature of this particular forum there are any number of things that are discussed to the Nth degree on an almost cyclical basis. Maybe we should campaign for a known issues sticky for stuff like this that keeps popping it's head up now and again. That would allow folks that start a new thread on an arguably popular idea like this to be directed to a place they can discuss said idea(s) ad infinitum. Call it the Suggestion Box or something like that.

So because you don't want to discuss it no one can? If you don't want to participate, then don't, but don't try to prevent others who are interested from doing so.

It would take a lot of work or look stupid, not and. And I don't recall them ruling it out as a non starter, just stating that it would be very hard to prioritize due to the above logic.

I recall the word "and" being used. In fact I remember when BABs shot down the Underwater Zone Suggestion thinking it was so close to what was said about the Swinging travel power.

And I recall one of the devs saying that doing the swing motion would be non-trivial but relatively simple. The hard part would be overhauling every map in the game to include anchor points, and the stupid looking would have been doing it with out anchor points. But then I may be remembering a different time that the devs talked about Grappling travel powers.

It's odd that you guys seem to be forgetting the possibility of a Swinging pool power being constructed differently than previous Travel pools to accommodate this "Looks silly" thing which "sounds silly" to be honest

1: Zipline: You are given a targeting reticule similar to teleport powers. Click and your character is "knocked" to that location.
Can be used anywhere
Like the web zip in Spider-man 2 and Ultimate spider-man

2: Line yank( I know): A targeted knock.. forward attack that does minor damage.

3: Building swing: Your character jumps in the air, swings forward, and automatically swings again. Automatically sets your character to auto run, has a wider arc to turn with, and is fast, but can only be used in city environments or indoors.

Like the First spider-man Movie game, basically.

4: Swing attack: Like sheild charge, select a location/target and your character will swing up above the camera and come down with a kick at the target.

The idea that each travel pool can only have one "Real" travel power is limiting this set.

Just for the sake of clarification when folks say anchor points are they talking about creating "physical" anchor points that have to be targeted while using the travel power or just having available anchor points in the vicinity that would explain where the terminating swing line is actually anchored?

Obviously having to target your anchor points would make for alot of fun as you would really have to learn "how to drive" but the terminating line version used by Champions Online is sufficiently fun and it also takes a bit of finesse for landings.

I think I recall that as well but (I may be wrong in my recollection) I think they were talking about it in conjunction with "Wall Crawling" as well as swinging. In the past the two were brought up and suggested together as travel powers so I may be getting the two confused.

So...screwing up the normal travel pool order completely is a good thing now? If it's not broken, don't try and fix it.
Oh, and 'Knock Forward' attacks are impossible. The Devs tried to make them work, and couldn't. Knock *back* is possible, and down. But not 'towards the caster'. It's a technical limitation.

I believe the anchor points would be a point for the line to attach to and a center point for the swings arc. I don't think I've ever heard any clear idea of how the anchor point would be picked, whether manual or automatic.

And don't try to prevent me pointing out the obvious, like the fact the Devs have specifically said that there are Engine Limitations involved. Y'know, the thing the game runs on?

I'm pretty sure no ones actually addressed that point and instead skirted around it so far
