I am so nooooob, I can't even handle the tutorial!
Ok, thanks. now NEXT problem: I am in the "Dropping off the canisters of Outbreak" mission, right? So, I am in Paragon, right? My mission arrow is directing me where to go, right? BUT here is the problem: The 1st destination is behind a game barrier which I cannot get through to! Here is a screenie to explain better:
So, my question is, HOW do I get around this? I tried circling everywhere! I do NOT know how to cross that barrier if the game will not let me through, you know? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
I don't believe the canisters are located outside the map. It appears you have a marker set outside the boundaries. Look around for 55 gallon drums that should be glowing/humming. Those are the canisters.

Woeful Knight (BS/Regen/Body Scrapper)
Kevin Christian (MC/FF/Primal Controller)
SilverCybernaut (Eng/Dev/Munitions Blaster)
Apixie OhNo (Fire/Fire/Pyre Tanker)
Y'ru Glowen (Rad/Rad/Psy Defender)
k danx. (Gosh, I get more instant help here than in the help chat channel, lol!) I sure hope I can find them!
That white circle with the red X is a waypoint you set yourself outside the containment forcefield. Probably by accident. You can clear it by going under options on the lower right corner of your map and turning off the waypoint.
The drop points don't appear on your map. You have to search for them. They will have a pulsing glow and a pulsing sound that you can see and hear as you get closer to them.
Now I haven't done this mission in a long while but once you get find and click three of the drop points a white star should appear on your map showing you where the last one is.
Having the last objective appear is a relatively new feature to the game. because sometimes (rare occasions) bugs happen where an objective or mob accidentally spawned inside a wall or building where players can't get to. And most times it points out a spot where the player simply forgot to look.
Ok, thank you very much. I was able to find the 4 boxes & complete my mission. Now, a NEW problem has come up w/ my NEXT mission! I have the "Beat Wyvern Rep for Info" mission, right? BUT, this mission does NOT show on my map like the other ones have done! Also, I have come across this mysterious portal that I am afraid to click, as it is not on my mission! Screenie:
DAMN! If it is NOT one thing, it is ANOTHER! How frustrating is THAT? Really! Now 2 questions: How do I find the mission on my map, (YES, I DID mark "missions" under "options" in my map!) and what the heck do I do about that portal? Is that where I need to go? If so, why is it not on my map? If not, then what is it for? Please answer me, thanks.
If you'll look at your picture it says (11) Beat Wyvern Rep Villain Cap Au Diablo. Your in Port Oakes. You have to go to the Cap Au Diablo zone to do the mission.
Also I don't know if anyone told you. In your screenshot you are at the Base Portal. You have to be a member of an SG in order to use it, and Trial Accounts can't access bases. That's because RMT (Real Money Transfer) companies were joining SG's on trial accounts and robbing super group storage bins.
Calm down and breath.
That is the base portal. It'll take you to your super group base if you belong to a super group (guilds in other MMOs).
Note your mission is in a different zone, Cap Au Diable, you need to take the ferry or black helicopter to get there and then the location will appear on your map.

The protal is the gate to Supergroups - player-established groups, kinda like Guilds in other MMOs. I believe that as a Trial Account, you can't access any SG bases (I could be wrong about that) - but in any case, unless you are in a SG or on a team with someone who can allow others to access the SG, you won't get any options to enter a SG base through the portal. You can click the blue cylinder - no problems for you if you do.
At least one of the missions in Port Oakes is accessed through the Arachnos building in the center of the zone. Go inside and one of the interior doors is the mission door. The Arachnos building is one of the tall buildings in the center of the zone, draped with Arachnos symbols. There's a big reflecting pool outside it, and you have to go up some steps to ge there. IIRC, you can come straight down from the Arena area along one of the streets to get there.
NVM - I missed the Cap au Diable text that Father Xmas picked up on.

If a trial account can enter a team leader's SG base, that would be a good way to expose trial accounts to the good stuff found in a SG base.

Ok, thanks, guys, I missed that "Cap au Diable" thing too. Gee some sharp villain, I make! LOL! Yeah, I know supergroups are equivalent to guilds & teams are equivalent to groups or parties.
If you'd like someone to team with on Protector, or anywhere really, I can give you a hand. Just let me know what your characters name is and the server you're on, i'll keep an eye out for you .
Don't feel bad about missing things. I'll let you in on a secret. You know that little green button that appears in your nav bar when a mission ends? Well it took me a year to realize I could click on it to exit a mission. Up til then I kept running back to the mission entrance to leave.

Ok. I have 2 villianesses on Protector. The one I am currently working on is Cat From Hell and my alt is Brutress. Cat is lvl 12 & Brutress is 10. I am trying to get them to 14 b4 my trial ends b4 making my decision to stupidly pay every month. What is your toon's name(s)?

You can have 2nd accounts? Cat just turned lvl 13 & I was trying to look for someone to team up to do a mayhem mission w/ her & yet nobody but nobody responded! How frustrating!
Oh yeah. You can have as many accounts as you can afford. I've had up to three active at one time, down to 2 now. And there are people here on the forums with as many as 5.
Note: you can't transfer characters between accounts.
Oh and if you are looking at the 17 that Mystic is referring to, you should know that while we get 12 slots per server we can buy 24 more per server.
2 free slots are awarded for applying a Going Rogue serial code.
1 free slot is granted every 12 months of Veteran Rewards
As part of the in-game store, slots can be purchased as follows:
- 1 slot for $5.99
- 2 slots for $9.99 (approx. $4.99/slot)
- 5 slots for $19.99 (approx. $3.99/slot)
thanx 4 the info. I am not even sure I can afford 1 account, let alone more, but I am considering the 1,...
Goodness, this is all Greek to me, I hope I can figure it out. As a trial player, I can't use the black market anyway. (Wondering if I should go sub?)

Spending the time to patiently help a new player enjoy the game with nary a disparaging word.

The Gang's All Here
1. The 1st time you access the game now, it starts you in Praetoria. After that, any character you make will have a choice of the 3 starting points (Hero, Villain, Praetoria)

I like Praetoria so far and think it is a great addition, and I find the mory story focused approach interesting. However, it is absolutely NOT where new players should be dropped off. I need to call up the three people I bought this game for at Christmas and let them know to create a throwaway character first and delete it so they can start in the real game.
Oh, by the way, the way they do trials these days kinda irks me too. I started off on a trial account over four years ago and had few if any restrictions during the trial period. Some of the most fun things that really drew me into the game and sold me on a subscription that I still have today are off limits to trial accounts now. If I had started today with current trial restrictions, I doubt I would have ever subscribed.
No, they bought Going Rogue. If they bought any other edition they can start where ever. Remember Praetoria is the game's current showcase of level design, high end graphics enabled zones and new branching mission design.
Of course this makes CoH and CoV areas look old and their missions rather straightforward.

Anyway... It takes all kinds. lol
And yes I did ask folks for those wondering... but got answers like "I don't know what your asking for." or "I don't know where to find them either." and the like. So either folks assumed I should know that Attack rate meant Recharge for everything unlike what I thought they were or they too were clueless and just making do withought. Couldnt make guesswork back in 2004 on a level 22 toon... Knew the game was unforgiving with cash for sellbacks for enhancement choice "whoopsies".
PS: doing random paper missions on that "stalker", I hope you remembered to avoid escorts like the plague..... they make you shut down stealth.
Also sorry, I had no clue that the trial accounts had been so hobbled thanks to 'gold farmers/paied leveling'... or I would have been more helpful.
I have no Protector toons. But I will start one and maybee bump into you.
Happy New Year!
You can slot your powers with five types of enhancements. Training are the worst but all you have to start the game. Dual Origin are double the training enhancements and are available starting at level 12. Single Origin are double the Dual Origin enhancements and are available starting at level 22. Invention Origin are made using recipes and invention salvage. Recipes and salvage will drop from enemies when you are high enough or can be purchased (black market mostly but can get other places as well that for simplicity I will not list here). Invention origin enhancements start at level 10 and go every 5 levels until 50. Their enhancement bonus starts like training but eventually becomes better then Single Origin. Unlike other enhancements their bonus is locked in and they don't become worthless when you advance more then 3 levels above the enhancement's level.
Sets are the fifth type but are really special Invention Origin enhancements. There are many sets in the game and each has unique bonuses for having two or more of the set slotted into a power.
A set mule is a power that is not used much but is slotted with an enhancement set to get the set bonus. Mostly I would discourage doing this as you will usually do not have enough enhancement slots to slot all powers they way you want so burning some on unused powers is not recommended. However in the right situations and for good set bonuses using a set mule can be valuable.
After the first few levels, I move Brawl off my power tray and almost never use it again. It does very little damage.
There is a sixth type of Enhancement -- commonly called Hami-Os for Hamidon Origin Enhancements. You don't need to worry about these until you hit higher levels, mostly level 47. There are actually four sub-categories of Hami-Os, but all four kinds are awarded randomly by completing one of six different Task or Strike Forces/Trials/Raids. Hami-Os and Synthetic Hami-Os are level 50 and can only be used for levels 47-50. Synthetics are identical to regular Hami-Os except for the name. Villains can earn Hami-Os by participating in a Hamidon Raid to completion. Villains can earn Synthetic Hami-Os by completing the Lord Recluse Strike Force. Heroes can earn Hami-Os at a Hamidon Raid, and earn Synthetic Hami-Os by completing the Statesman's Task Force. Heroes can also earn lower level Hami-Os by completing the Abandoned Sewer Trial or the Eden Trial in the late 30's and early 40's levels -- these are pretty rare but not all that useful since they expire three levels past their level. For example, a level 40 Hami-O from the Eden Trial will expire (turn red and provide no benefit) at level 43. They all have odd names and do a combination of several enhancements in one.
LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)
