Sooo heres the deal, I am nosing around the forums and saw that DOMS are good farmers? I have a few questions...

1)how do doms compare with a fire/kin? are they faster? safer? or not as good?

2)If they are better than a fire/kin, what is the ultimate farming build for a dom? fire/earth looks like it is packed full of AOE? fire/psi doesnt look bad, so could someone please help me as to what should i do?

3)If someone could post a build and help me understand how i would greatly appreciate it, im just looking for the ultimate farm build

Just IME ...

But I've seen lots of fire / kins over the years get man-handled by Malta and Carnies.

With my fire / fire / fire dom (built for large scale carnage, not survivability), I can walk into damn near any map and waltz through it.

Fire / kins are very, very good at certain maps and mob groups, and less good at others. Doms tend to be pretty good at everything. If you want to run the same map over and over at 50 to PL / grind loot, a fire / kin is your best bet. If you want to mix up with some teaming and shard farming, a dom would, I believe, be a better choice -- but I admit to being biased in favour of doms.

FWIW, I think doms are more fun to play. And, if you end up teaming, you don't have to deal with idjits spamming "sb plz".

Sorry, no build for my dom -- never could wrap my head around Mids.

My mind/psi farms the wall along the roman fortress well enough. And i have a earth/fire that used to farm the AE pretty decently but he needed to have a map with a choak point to keep earthquake, and quicksand working well.

Oh both were perma doms if that matters for you, im sure it did for the extra mag and status effects.

My suggestion is to roll a brute. It will be much easier and much cheaper to build a farming brute.

IMO, Fire/kins are faster than anything farming. I have a ton of diff farm builds. From an Elec/SD soft capd with 155% rech plus Incarnate rech boosts, Plant/Fire perma everything (creepers/dom), SS/Fire brute IO'd, Fire/Fire scrapper on the way at 42.

From my exp farming, Elec/SD is the safest hardest hitting farmer. Fire/kin is the fastest and very safe if you know what you're doing, and the Doms are great because Dom has you resistant to everything from sleeps/holds/stuns/ etc, which controllers are not.

Malta and Carnie can manhandle anything if you don't know what you're doing. Not just fire/kins. But on the other hand, you're not gonna be farming them.

I have a Plant/Psi Dom that is a Monster. I am at 205% Global Recharge and I have Perma-Drain Psyche which will keep your DOM motoring non-stop.

Also, nobody seems to mention how strong Carrion Creepers is once you can start stacking them. With 205% recharge, I can double stack Carrion Creepers for at least 30-40 seconds, which means you can easily control up to 2 mobs of 16 guys each (32 total guys). I have ran Rikti Warzone misssions and with Carrion Creepers, Confuse and the holds, I have controlled up to 48 guys (mobs at lvl 54) and lived.

In my opinion, you can farm faster than a Fire/Kin if you use the Confuse power. If you don't use confuse, a plant/psi might be a little slower farming but not by much.

A few nights go I took my Earth/Ice/Ice to AE with a team of 8 and my setting to 8x/+0 and we steam rolled the map.

The beauty that Earth/Ice/Ice is great at AoE control and using Sleet and Ice Storm I can pretty much clear a map and get 1650 tickets in one roll... for someone who never farms and does think it brings about negative changes, it's pretty sweet

That doesnt say much other than gaining tickets is easy. I farmed tickets ona db regen stalker in i14 faster than alot of people on farm focused builds.

I heard fire/psi/fire is nice and having tried the fire epic on my fire/fire dom i can believe it
Not sure how good it is and the cost is probably high compared to a brute.

I think most people have playstyles that they work with better than others - I don't like bruting much, but my Fire/Psi/Soul is quite a monster, imho.

I prefer running doms over controllers primarily because of the domination factor (mez resist FTW!). I have a fire/rad but get aggravated when after getting mez'd, I lose my hot feet, choking cloud, any rad debuffs, etc all at once....gets old.

My Dom is IO'd out pretty hard and has some good resistance and decent def, and while he can't take the damage that a brute can, throwing in flashfire/firecages/Psi shockwave with a few flaming monkeys, a little drain psyche and soul drain does the job for nice clustered mobs to where I rarely have to worry about being too damaged, unless I get crazy or something.

I run at +2/x7 generally and he does pretty well. To each his own, but it's certainly doable if you enjoy the Dom playstyle.

How do doms handle ambush farms?

Posted

My Fire/Fire/Fire dom rolled himself from 47-50 in about an hour or 2 on an ambush farm at 0x8 no bosses. I died some and I was popping purples like crazy but it worked. I was clearing the front room almost as fast as my ss/fire brute does, but he is on 3x8 with bosses and usually a few extra people taking my insp drops.

Dont want to derail the thread, but I would have to agree with this. Honestly you can farm with almost any AT but you have to weigh risk vs reward. I just retired my Fire/Psy Dom, broke my heart, but I can do things with my Brute my Dom could never do.

If you still want to go the Dominator route I would suggest Fire/Psy, Fire/Earth or Fire/Fire.

They really cant. For Doms its all about control, once the ambush mobs rez your dead, because you lost control. The AOE holds and stuns just dont recharge fast enough and you wont have enough defense/resistance to overcome the massive amounts of damage smashing you in the face.

Then what is a decent farm mission...I don't farm often and I completely didn't know that I wasn't really farming farming...

Thanks for the correction Terror!

Barring exploits, the best farm mission will always be one explicitly tailored to your strengths.

Mind/Psi/Soul Dom.

I am not slotted for S/L or anything yet. I do have money banked up but I am sure that 2 billion isnt enough to do anything serious. I also have other toons and my Earth/Ice/Ice is prolly going to be my best farming toon.

Dunno i've seen a fire/psi/fire handle a proper ambush(Map cap of ambushes all at once.) farm pretty well with a dead alt to veng from.

one of my best farming toons is a earth/fire/fire dom, perma dom with 200% rech atm, i have stalgmites up for every spawn and near perma volcanic gases, i dont even need to use earthquake and quicksand very often unless i have problems hitting the baddy (i sometimes forget i even have quicksand due to how easily i run through x6 mobs lol)

i have a mind/fire/ice dom which is good at farming the wall in cim (still working on getting more IOs for him atm lol)

other than that i dont have any other doms at lvl 50 atm, but my earth/fire is pretty sweet, i usually dont mind sharing my builds through PM if interested

If the goal is to farm, I probably would pick Plant as primary because you probably don't care about the mobs hitting themselves as long as you hit them once you should get a drop.

Plant/Fiery/Ice should be really good at farming.

What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
