So thoughts on alpha slots and the future

As I said. Frightening.

Would be nice to have some more details, so we can make estimates on how much "preemptive" component collection one may do. I have a bit of a fear of taking components that I might actually never even NEED.

Obviously you'll be able to save up shards and use them for anything. Anyone saving up extra components, or people too nervous that they'll just accumulate stuff they'll never use?

And what about Ham-O's? Anyone taking the component from STF/LRSF instead of a Ham-O?

Most of my incarnates have just a few extras left over after getting their uncommon. And then there is Operative Tessa me badger... over 75 shards and around 10-12 common components saved for the whatever comes next. I haven't bothered to craft any uncommon components yet figuring I'll wait and just see what is required. But unless they come up with a whole new batch of TFS with new components to be earned or crafted.. I figure whatever we need has to come from the basics we have now.

Now I can see us needing to craft a lot more uncommon components to build a rare or very rare enhancer .. who know they could even come up with a very rare component or two we need to craft FROM the uncommons. Something like this as an example:

Rare Enhancer might require:

1 Uncommon enhancer

3 uncommon components

Very Rare Enhancer might require

1 Uncommon Enhancer

2 uncommon components

1 rare component (crafted by combining 2 or MORE uncommon ones)

Lets face it they already assigned Hero one DNA to the LGTF, Ancient Nictus Fragment to the ITF, Dimensional Keystone to the Kahn TF and Baraccuda SF, and the Essence of the Incarnate to States TF and Lord Recluse SF. The Cathedral of Pain drop the Penumbra of Rularuu and Gr'ai Matter can be purchased with Vanguard Merits. The four uncommon Components we currently have can all be crafted using commons that already exist and that drop during TF/SFs so unless they revise the drops or give us other ways to earn new ones we have all the building blocks they can justify.. Maybe they could come out with new one you either need to craft or get by doing a Hami Raid or Mothership Raid. They could come out with a new one that you can either craft or purchase using reward merits.. same restrictions as Gr'ai Matter (only one ever 18 hours).

Very hard to tell exactly what is coming up next but I figure my MAIN/Badger will be as ready as possible when it begins

I'm hopeful we will eventually be able to break down components into shards (at a penalty) or combine components into alternate (or even yet-to-exist) components, e.g. (2) Hero 1 DNA Samples can be converted into (1) Dimensional Keystone. Having unusable components sitting around in a player's inventory is poor design, and the dev team has managed to avoid this situation in the past (base salvage and Brain Storm Ideas).

I'm guessing they'll introduce other shard components one will have to craft (rare), and will roll my eyes if they make "ultra rare" component pieces we'll have to craft, all to be used towards Rare/UltraRare boosts. I would also guess that there will be more TFs that will give X to help create those other pieces however. Let's face it, more TFs are completely needed because I have a feeling the current TFs are getting a bit easier with Alphas slotted (Apex and Tin Mage not so much, but once people are use to them more, they won't be far behind).

Anyway, really enjoying the boosts so far, but am only doing a few characters that I intend to keep playing. Only have plans for about 8 characters right now; maybe more after those first 8 are slotted with the uncommons. Past that, I'll whittle down which ones I deem important/fun enough to upgrade later on. Once we're past just the Alpha phase, I will probably whittle it down even more and really be focused on only a couple of characters.

With all of this, I really don't see myself creating any new characters ever again. And the last couple of characters I started to check out different combos on probably won't be leveled any time soon, if ever. Not really "sad" about any of that, but do wish all of this could have come a lot sooner so I could have been more focused on core characters I really enjoy.

Eh, not really. I don't find it that surprising, either. Uncommons take more work to make than commons, so why shouldn't the rare and very rare? You are getting a lot more of a boost for those, after all. And you don't HAVE to go that high for any character. Even one common or uncommon alpha boost can make a big difference in a character. The uncommon Cardiac for Grey Pilgrim makes a huge difference for him. He had no issues anywhere on the LGTF, and I used to have to worry about about end drain with the Riders, etc. I should tool him around with Cimerorans to see how he does there, as the main other thing I had to worry about for him was defense debuffs, as he doesn't have resist for those.

I would guess some new TFs are coming that will give us higher level shards, etc. That, or just give us more shards. You can play any level 50 content and get them, so just relax and play the game. You can get them while running your beloved Dr. Q TF, you know!

Anyway, I'm not really sweating this, just wondering where the alpha slot is going to go.

Voo, are there any alts you brought to 50 that you really dislike playing? I guess I have a couple (MMs mostly from Isos that I gave up on ), but I shifted them to other servers already. I also have a few that I like, but not enough to run Incarnate stuff with. I guess I'm not really running into any issues with the new system that I didn't have to worry about with characters before. If I don't like them, I usually delete them before making it to 50.

Now that we all agree that Super Rares will take 1,024 shards to create, can everyone admit that Mental was totally right about this a month ago?!?!

Ya know MG, there was a time that Doomopolis had a shoot on sight order out on you. Now I'm considering having someone pushed out a window to make room for you on my city council. Hell, I'll even let you bring in your toady, Voodoo.

On to the topic at hand. At this point I'll probably craft the most useful uncommon for each toon and then store up shards/components until we get some idea of what the road ahead looks like.

As far as tf/raid rewards go: If there is an option for shards/components, that's what I'm taking. I can buy HOs (or even Hami-Os ). Recipes I can get through a-merits.

GP-After a certain point, I think most people have a 50 or two that they don't particularly like. Whether it is because it never quite fulfilled the promise you thought it would have or it simply requires too much time/effort/inf to make it into what you want. I really don't care for my Isos dom on Infinity. I probably should revisit it since it hit 50 before the changes to doms that Castle made, but at the time the extremes between being in domination and not made me crazy. Coupled with how expensive it was to make it a perma-dom, I could barely stand to play it. However, I wanted a 50 of every AT and it was on the list...

Not just Dr. Q; there's a far less desire/incentive to play things that don't drop shards or components now. Also a question of how much this is going to cut into peoples money supplies and the market.

I've noticed that the common/uncommon recipes are fairly flooded right now. Anyone paying attention to what's happen to the random roll pool of recipe prices?

I thought the upper level salvage market was flooded more because of the Winter Event. That didn't seem to be saturated until the Winter Event hit, anyway. My mid-level guys are having fun selling their excess salvage right now, though.

Flux, I have 50s that I don't care to play much more, either. Though I figure most of us shipped those off to other servers or deleted them... I sure did. If anything, though, I don't mind trying out new things. It's okay if they're not all Incarnate material.

Well, at long last, all 26 of my level 50's are uncommoned.

Having thoughts on the future; long long till next alphas are unlocked, what the costs will be, etc. Would like some official confirmation (and not just one old chart) on what the crafting requirements are, have fears still of creating unnecessary components.

Hello to everyone! Black Scorpion here to make a little announcement.

In early February we are launching an update to Issue 19 called the Strike Pack. The Strike Pack introduces the Weekly Strike Target and the Rare and Very Rare tiers of the Incarnate Alpha Slot.

Weekly Strike Target: Every week, we will announce one Task Force and one Strike Force (or instead one Co-Op Task Force) that will give increased rewards for that week. The first time a character completes the Weekly Strike Target in the week, they receive double merits and a bunch of additional XP. Even if you “go rogue” and do the other side’s Weekly Strike Target as well, you’ll only get that reward for your first in a given week. After running it once, your character can earn progress toward some brand new badges for helping others by running it as many times as you like. Of course, you can run the WST on as many characters as you have the inclination for and get the increased rewards on each. The Weekly Strike Target will change every Tuesday morning.

But wait, I hear you say, how does this get us more Incarnate power? Black Scorpion hears your pleas.

Alpha Slot Upper Tiers: With the Strike Pack, you will be able to expand the Alpha Slot to the Rare and Very Rare tiers. Running the Weekly Strike Target on an Incarnate-enabled character adds to your once-a-week bonus a “Notice of the Well” reward, which is a necessary component to craft the Rare tier abilities of the Incarnate Alpha Slot. Save them up, add a few Shards, and your “Notice of the Well” can be upgraded to a “Favor of the Well” which is necessary for crafting the Very Rare abilities in the Alpha Slot. Of course, once Issue 20 launches, you will be able to build these abilities with stuff found while completing Incarnate Trials as well.

In addition to their tree-specific benefits, when you slot a Rare or Very Rare Alpha Slot power, a level shift will be applied to your character. Your level 50 character will fight with the same strength as if they were level 51; your actual level will not change, and the level shift only applies when you have a Rare or Very Rare power in the Alpha Slot and it is active. Characteristics which take level differences into account like damage and control duration will be affected, but basic stats like hit points and movement speed are unchanged. This should come in handy on tackling challenging content like the Tin Mage and Apex TFs (or any other high-level content), but you will find it is of tremendous value in improving your effectiveness in the Incarnate Trials launching with Issue 20!

More detailed information will be released in the coming weeks.

Your bud in the Incarnate-powered armor,

Black Scorpion
Hmmm. So the Notice on the Wall is ONE of the components to get the next level of alphas. But The only? Been playing 50's for shards/see how their new builds are working since uncommoning them, thinking of getting another character to 50 / closer to 50 while waiting on the exact recipes.

The way I read it, it definitely did not read "the only" to me. From what I read, I see you needing an uncommon, a notice of the well, shards, and maybe 2 other components for the rare.

Since we know you will need 2 rares for a very rare and now this "favor of the well" you will need at minimum 3 notice of the wells to make a very rare alpha enhancement.

I think Scorpion clarified how many notice of the wells were needed... one for the rare, two for the ultra rare. Hopefully they'll come up with some good solo options for this as well, but it's not too bad, should be a good amount of people doing these TFs all the time. I can kind of see why some of this is a bummer for those people that are really casual about their gameplay.

Due to restraints on my time I'm often unable to do any TFs. I'm very unhappy about this looking like it's the only way to get my 50's on par with everyone else's. The upside is that everyone will be doing those TF's so hopefully when I do get a little time to play, I'll be able to run those TF's. I'm still unhappy though, the majority of the shards that I get with my 50s is when doing solo or just normal 50 missions.

Screenshots of some of the tier 3 and 4's posted in general.

The short of it:
Going from tier 2 and 3 is relatively easy. Two common components and one notice of the well. I imagine a lot of people can and will just say "screw it" and go straight to tier 3 by running the task force of the week and burning eight shards.

Now, tier 3 to tier 4 is another story. You effectively need 40 shards, a couple common components, and two notices of the wells. And *two* tier 3 alphas.

You CAN convert components to shards but at a fairly horrible rate. However, good news for DC; you can convert V-merits into shards.

I think I'm going to continue on my previous strategy; until this goes live, I'm going to be building up components on random characters and when this goes live, go through all my characters semi-randomly until they all have tier 3's slotted, then go back to randomly playing them until they have tier 4's.

Getting... Indecisive.

Current strategy: Long term? I'm going to get tier 4 alphas on all my level 50's. Might take a GOD long time (especially on the 1-2 that I don't really care about), but it's a long term thing. Short term, I want the tier 3 for the level shift ASP.

Now I have two choices:
Long term efficiency method; don't blow shards on components unless I have to.
*or*
Screw it, get the tier 3 slotted as soon as possible, blow shards!

Hmmmm.

so far im really enjoying the lvl shifts on the 8ish toons that ive gotten it on already

one of my toons had several components and 90 shards before this came out, so ive crafted everything he needs to get to the very rare with the exception of needing 3 more notice of the wells

i do have to admit that it is REALLY annoying right now that were limited to 1 notice per week per toon, and it will be nice in i20 to actually be able to get notices from alternative methods but thats still several months off

honestly i do agree with the point of view of a lot of other people that there is very little difference between the tier 3 and tier 4 boosts, the only thing that is a real game changer is the level shift, which you can get at the tier 3

Isn't the percentage increase between the rare and very rare higher than that between the uncommon and rare? It seems like it makes a big difference from what I can see in mids, especially if you go for the 45% enhancement version (looking at that for my En/En Blaster makes me want to get him to 50 NOW).

For some characters, I won't care about that too much. I'm going to get GP to the very rare, but more because it's going to boost his resists even higher. For some of my characters, the rare is going to be good enough because of the level shift. Two of my blasters don't really need to go higher for the Spiritual Boosts, for instance. Having RoA or Hail of Bullets up 4-5 seconds sooner isn't worth that much investment, I don't think.

Oh, the tier 4's are nice, don't get me wrong.

But from a purely reward/benefit vs. time spent, tier 3's are far more of a boost (and a no-brainer). Getting tier 3's on ALL my characters (and heck, long term? tier 4's too); only question is do I do it in cheap/long term efficiency mode and TF it up for the tier 3's or just "waste" shards to slot them immediately.

there is a slight increase in the enhance that the tier 4 gives, but its basically only because a slightly larger portion ignores ED

tier 3s ignore 1/2 of ED and tier 4s ignore 2/3 ED

(ie a .5 ignore or .6666... ignore)

the only other thing that the tier4s are good for is that they enhance a little bit more than the tier 3s, like in the multi aspect portion

but beside the slight increase in what ignores ED and enhancing more stuff (some of which you may not need anyway), it doesnt make the tier 4s a MustHaveNao type of thing
