Roy Cooling FTW!!!! *Possible Spoilers*
It was totally awesome to have Keith Nance along on that last mission. My friend and I had a steady line of jokes and one liners going because Keith Nance was such a BAMF!
Don't f*** with Keith Nance!! |
Anyway, the special missions, such as the sinking ship, burning building and the finale, are very cool and a terrific break from the ordinary. I've often longed for all the "important" story arcs to have special maps on them, so this one really delivers in that aspect.

I talked to Nance and he told me to contact him within the mission and he'd come help. But I didn't see anything to contact him with (at first I assumed it was the computer you download the chip to but nope). What did I screw up?

Randomly: I REALLY want that attack chopper as a base detail.
Nuts to the longbow chaser or Arachnos Flier, I want my ******* Apachee attack chopper!

I feel your pain. I ran this with a 26 Bots/FF MM (0/x5) and those PPD were hard. Each mission on the first PPD map left me resummoning my pets at the end and I only made it through the arc by toning it down to x3 and making judicious use of Teleport Foe to pull the Equalizers to me and smack the crap out of them in a six bot beatdown before they could glue/acid mortar me.

But I didn't see anything to contact him with (at first I assumed it was the computer you download the chip to but nope). What did I screw up? Speaking of screw ups, I also couldn't figure out the fire/rescue thing. The elevators up didn't work and I used the stairs to go down but there was nothing down there. Eventually I just stood outside and sang "The roof is on fire!" as thirteen men were burned alive inside. Good thing my MM changed from villain to hero because being a villain doesn't give you opportunities like that! |
There's a computer terminal in one of the hallways, i think one of the first, it's a security checkpoint alcove with a pane of glass over it, there should be a spawn of Sky raiders inside, I believe that's where a glowie would be that would allow you to contact him with.

I do not suffer from altitis, I enjoy every character of it.
You're supposed to go up, I think. Its the kind of stupid/selfless thing that heroes are known for
|
It is a computer in the first security checkpoint. It has a reticle but no glow/sounds. Bug? |
Captain Castillo is the man.
Anyway, as someone else mentioned, I do find it kinda annoying you never get told why normals don't get access to medi-porter tech. Or rather, it's that you're told you'll get the reasons why, but then everyone just suddenly forgets about it. I'd be cool with it if they just said it's confidential government information and you just need to trust them that they have their reasons, but they don't even do that.
In fact, in the interrogation scene you basically tell the rogue cop the reasons and he goes all OH MY GOD THIS IS ALL PERFECTLY REASONABLE MY VIEW ON THIS ISSUE JUST CHANGED 180 DEGREES. Makes you really curious what those reasons are, huh?
This is an otherwise pretty good arc, but this relatively small thing turned into trying to ignore the elephant in the room for me.
Edit:
I tried that but the elevators wouldn't work. I tried all four doors and just got a "You can not enter" for each one. So then I thought they want me to go down and by the time I looked around down there, saw nothing, went back up again and tried the elevators again, it was in the 1:00 range and I said the heck with it. Crime never pays.
|
Edit the second: Oh nevermind apparently you know about the stairs already. Anyway, there's a series of stairs leading further down, with plenty of rogue cops littered across the way, and at the very bottom you find your target. Then you need to walk him up to the exit. The first time I did this arc I not only missed two people, but I didn't lead him out in time before the building collapsed. Good thing I had a medi-porter, huh?
Edit the third: For what it's worth, I had no trouble getting Keith to join me, but then again I also did the villain arc first and that had the "use the radio to get secondary objectives" in every mission, so I was prepared for this.

The bug that takes the SWAT npc away in the "Find Stanfeld at the Conference" mish will also take away any MM pets you have already active. They don't make it through the door into the sewers. Dismissing/resummoning doesn't work, they're stuck in limbo somewhere. I had to zone out and reset.
Finished this for the first time last night. Could have done without two elite bosses at the end (fighting Castillo was no problem, it was having all my buffs drop right before the Titan showed up and wiped the walls with me).
Chekmate, Lvl 50 AR/Dev blaster
BlueEyed Murder, lvl 50 MA/Regen scrapper
Hard Feelings, lvl 50 energy/willpower brute
"The Bell" - stop a mysterious group with ties to a WW2-era mythic German superweapon. arc id 76773
For me, it was the challenge of the arc that made it so much fun. So much of the content, while interesting, is just too easy. After my duo took down Castillo and we didn't immediately get the "Mission Complete" message, I was a bit surprised. We turned around to look up at a giant Zeus Class Titan, and I remember thinking, "Now, THIS is more like it." There's nothing like thinking the battle is over and before that sigh of relief is out, you realize the real challenge just arrived. Our duo was blaster/defender so obviously we were going to have to work fast to survive. Took one team wipe to work out a strategy of alternating agro to finally bring the big guy down. The ending to our particular battle was epic as I was killed a split second after I unleased the killing blast. Seemed fitting that my last action on the arc was to use a medi porter after sacrificing myself in the last battle. Totaly epic and ridiculous fun. I've run it thrice with three different ATs, and the fun never stops. This is by far my favorite arc in the game (so far). Glad to see other people seem to be enjoying it.
For those that find it too difficult, try tuning down the diff a bit, no shame in that as long as you're still having fun.
It was insanely challenging for me on my kin/electric brute at level 23. But, eventually... I did finish it. I cannot even imagine how hard it would be with some of my other characters. I'm very glad I didn't hang up and quit it at the last mission.
I only rescued about half the police, which I felt very bad about. But then I ... could hardly find my way to the top of the cruiser and get *outside it* because like an idiot, I didn't actually walk to the EDGE of the first outside area (under all the scaffolding/supply stuff). DUR. When I finally did, I was like, OH okay.
And then CASTILLO. JEEZ.
... AND THEN and then. HURRR. I did at least get a level out of the mission arc, that's not bad at all. Even with all the damn debt from dying every other couple minutes to that damn last Zeus.
With a full tray of insps, it's doable, but maybe if I had more ranged attacks it'd have gone a little better.
But all in all, it was a superb arc, with an excellent story that fleshes out the events between Primal and Praetorian earths. Good work writers.

I ran it with my empath/sonic defender but with help (a blaster + scrapper for the first half and only the scrapper for the second half) and we all had a ton of fun... even managed to get the president to the fire escape before time ran out although the others died clearing a path for me (how heroic is THAT!?).
We loved the final mission and Nance was Chuck Norris incarnate. He's the one that finished off Castillo after we died but unfortunately was on a lower level when he did so he wasn't available for that final ambush! Ouch - we both died a couple of times but it was epic.
I didn't think the PPD were that bad but maybe I'm just used to fighting them red-side.
Can't wait to run the villain-side arc... unfortunately I think all of mine have outleveled that level range.
I don't see how you're supposed to tag all the downed cops OR rescue ____ (who, like most escorts, moves at a slow jog and then whines that you've left him behind), let alone both, in the extremely short time limit. Suggestions from those who've actually done it?

It takes about 30 seconds to get him from his spawn point to the elevator, plus 3.5-4 minutes for the rescue of the other 12.
To get the bagde, myou need to rescue all 12 before you rescue him.

I think the ultimate rule of a universe filled with supers is trying not to die. Yes, that goes for heroes too.
Besides, Castillo's last WEAK. Dean MacArthur is THE MAN.

No one managed to click the incapacitated officer sitting where the last big fight was before I got the hostage to the fire escape but that was just an oversight. I'm convinced we could have gotten the badge if someone had been focused on finishing that up while I did the escort. I don't think it would be possible to do it all solo.
