Double XP Weekend!!!
Xmas is on a Saturday this year...

I was genuinely shocked they didn't slap it down during the last maintenance.

Well I'm happy I had assistance in preparing 2 characters that I would love to use as incarnates in the new tf's.
I'd have no problem with them being nuked. And a temp ban handed out, too.

It's not like they're cheating or wrecking anyone else's game. That's like blaming people for taking Smoke Grenades when they were overpowered or avoiding Rikti when *they* were overpowered. Leave a loophole, people will find it.

I think they should make it a vet reward, but not one based on time played. Rather, award it based on the number of alts played. Anyone with more than, say, 20 alts above level 30 would get the 'Glutton for Punishment' (alternately, 'Been There/Done That/Doing it Again Tomorrow') badge and non-retroactively punishable access to Cheeky Monkeys through levels 1-22!

But this current situation's been going on for weeks now and if the Powers That Be haven't gotten around to fixing it despite everyone and their dog knowing about it for nearly a month, I'm not about to take up caring about it on their behalf.
As for the expensive IO's, the stock answer these days is to run Tip missions for A-Merits. One or Two merits (2-4 days work not counting the ability to buy a merit every day) will get you nearly any sought-after IO aside from purples or PVP's.
Crazy 88er's ran up the price of Alchemical Silvers so I can't casually purple my warshade!

Knowing that, I now change my official statement to Nuke The Exploit Arcs.

Biggest Troll on the forums? I'll give you a hint:
Just to play devil's advocate: if the dev's refuse to address what is/is not an exploit, then punishing it falls into a murky area. You can't just say "well, EVERYONE knows what an exploit is," because no, everyone doesn't. Some people consider selling an IO off-market for more then 2billion an exploit. It's the job of NCSoft/Paragon to SAY if something is an exploit, prevent and fix it.
This is a programming error, one assumes. The table of xp vs strength somehow got messed up. And somehow this keeps happening. It seems like every other patch, they're having to deal with some minion that's somehow giving out boss xp, or overpowered helpers, or something like that. It is the responsibility of the game's programming staff NOT to keep introducing bugs like this and to THOROUGHLY check the content to make sure these things don't exist.
And it's the responsibility of the PR team to be letting folks know what is and is not an exploit. Yes, if they announce that the Rikti Monkey thing is a bug, it MIGHT draw more attention to it. But really, anyone going to Atlas Park on any server knows it's there. And once they've SAID "X is an exploit," then I'd fully support them nuking characters at will. But until that point, I don't. But until that point, it's people taking advantage of something that NCSoft put in the game and haven't announced is an exploit, and haven't fixed even though it's, what, a month old now?
And if it IS an exploit, its their job to fix it promptly. If they can't fix it, then lock down that mob type from AE. Or even lock down AE. I'm sure everyone who uses it legitimately would survive it being locked for a couple of weeks in order to clear all exploits and thoroughly test to be sure they're not inserting new ones.
And really, how is any AE exploit any different from a sewer team, a 50 farm map with a load of lowbies, or any of those other activities? The goal is the same: to bypass levels as quickly as possible. The penalities for new players are the same: they're not going to know how their character plays if they joined a team at level 1 and came out at the end of the play session at 12, 20, or whatever level. There were actually people in Atlas today complaining that the monkey farm was killing sewer teams. Well, what's the difference between the goal of the monkey farm PL and the sewer team? It's still about leveling as fast as possible. I've never done a sewer team just for that reason - I'm not interested in the bum's rush.
Until someone comes out right and says "we consider this an exploit, stop doing it," and puts some sort of proper internal testing in place so they can stop introducing these bugs over and over, I can't support punishing the playerbase for it.

It's not their fault if people have short memories.

This is not the first time that AE has been EXPLOITED in this manner. The devs previously explained what was considered an exploit, and what consequences the exploiters might suffer.

Also, would you link me to that post or page please?
Not everyone has been here forever. If they do not address each NEW exploit that their faulty programming creates, then people cannot be expected to simply extrapolate.

Then there's the follow-up thread that goes into further details

Hope those help.
Thank you Forbin, appreciate it!
I really do wish the programmers would look into what is continually causing these aberrant xp issues and get these things pulled quicker before it becomes this much of an issue.
Positron's follow-up also said that you "probably" wouldn't lose your character and only the "worst" characters would be punished.
I doubt anything much will come from this aside from the devs eventually getting around to patching it after the Thanksgiving weekend. Maybe this Tuesday but I'm not holding my breath.
No one is being punished. Holding off on a special event that they usually only throw out when theres a lull between events and issues or as a perk to a reactivation weekend isn't a punishment.
We've had a busy year that's kept most of us excited. 1. Free transfers at the end of the Winter Event in January. 2. Then the Spring Event. 3. Then Issue 17 and Ultra-Mode. 4. Then the Going Rogue Pre-Purchase with early access to two new power sets. 5. Then Issue 18 and Going Rogue itself with more free transfers. 6. Then the Halloween Event. 7. Soon to be released I19. 8. Shortly after that the next Winter Event. I'll take a year like this last one over a 2xp weekend anytime. |
Generally DXP weekends have been to reinvigorate the game when there's been a lull in activity. We've had so much going on this year that there's been no need.
And even without AE, it's quick enough to level just playing normally these days.

My point was this: if people have been abusing various ways (whether they are considered exploits or not) for Power Leveling large amounts of XP quickly for years then how could the latest AE thing in particular be a specific reason to justify a Double XP weekend moratorium? Bottomline the Devs seem to be technically "punishing" everyone for the actions of a handful of AE farmers they can't seem to control.
Also I would argue that the Double XP weekends aren't really just a tool the Devs use to encourage people to play during downtimes. They've run Double XP weekends during times when other new updates/Issues had already bolstered interest in this game.
I'm not complaining that I want another Double XP ASAP. I was simply pointing out the silliness of the idea that we should not get a Double XP weekend until the latest AE exploit is fixed. If the Devs now want to avoid giving us another Double XP weekend until all the applicable exploits are fixed then we might as well resign ourselves to never seeing one run again.

You actually misunderstood what I was saying as far as who was getting "punished" by not having Double XP weekends. I really don't care about the frequency (or infrequency) of when they've been run in the past.

First off I honestly didn't think you were complaining that you wanted another 2xp weekend ASAP. I only thought you were chiming in with your perspective on the discussion. I'm sorry if my posts gave you another impression.
In hindsight what I should have also said was that I don't think the AE issue is the only reason we haven't seen more than we have this year. I'm guessing that with all the other stuff that we have/had going on this year the devs may have decided that there was enough events on the schedule that they could hold off on a 2xp until after they fiddle with the AE problem.
I want i19 more than I want another DXPWeekend. I'm going to be so busy with my 50's that I won't want to level an alt. (!!!!! VINCE! VINCE THIS IS YOUR CONSCIENCE! Don't do it man, level more alts!)

I'd rather have some more free server transfers over 2XP.
When Dual Pistols became available to pre-orders, Double XP weekend started like 2 or 3 days later.
