Double XP Weekend!!!

Another Double XP Weekend does not seem to be planned for anytime soon. I'm not saying we deserve it or are owed one, just noting that it's been a while now, longer than usual since the last one in March of this year. I'm just beginning to wonder if we will see one again, and how long we might have to wait for it.

At this point, if there is another one, it looks like it will probably not occur until around February or March of next year, which would be the longest spell we've gone without one, longer than the almost 8-month span between them in June 2007 and February 2008.

Is there still a place for Double XP Weekends in this game? Have we gotten to the point where such an event doesn't really serve the same purpose that it used to?

Until they fix the AE, every second is mega-double-xp weekend.

Really? Because I rarely see people flocking to AE like they used to. It's become more of an Inspiration store and occasional place for MA arc teams than a farming tool.

Between "XP smoothing" and Patrol XP, I don't really have much interest in Double XP anymore. I actually find myself turning off XP a fair amount to avoid outleveling things.

There's a severe exploit active right now I'm told (again).

This sets up a “three strikes and you’re out” policy. If an individual gets three story arcs banned, they will no longer be able to publish since their slots will all be used up with banned arcs.
I remember after they nailed the exploiters how a few of them raged while everyone else applauded the GM's actions.

You must not spend any time in Atlas.

I never understood why this could be a reason not to have Double XP weekends. *shrugs*

Think of it this way: At best the only thing that 2 days of 2x XP could do for ANYONE (whether they are exploiting some kind of AE trick or not) is allow them to do in 2 days what ANYONE could normally do in 4 days. Sure it's cheesy that anyone could be taking advantage of an AE exploit regardless. But if those people are doing that anyway what would it really matter if they get to do it "faster" for 2 days? Why should everyone get screwed out of the chance for a Double XP weekend just to "indirectly punish" a few people exploiting the game?

I think it also depends on what server a person is on.

AE didn't get double XP, on double XP weekends.

I think the point was more, people are getting way more XP with AE, than they would with double XP.

And yes, you could get in 4 days what you could get in 2 days, but during double xp weekends, at least from what I notice, there are even MORE teams going on, which are more heavily looking for others to join their teams.

One could also ask why should the devs reward a few players that use the exploits, or tempt normally innocent players into breaking the exploitation rules by running a 2xp weekend before these exploits are fixed and then punishing them for being weak.

So I'd much rather wait until after the AE is fixed.

Whatever the details the general concept of not having a Double XP weekend in order to "prevent" people from getting "too much" XP for two days is fundamentally silly.

Sure I'd like to see it fixed too ASAP. But until then the idea that it should be the main reason to suspend Double XP weekends is laughable on the face of it. *shrugs*

You may be right that were getting way more cuz I remember people claiming they were getting 2xp on the last double xp weekend.

Not everyone has the same point of view on the subject. Ultimately the final decision is up to the devs.

Obviously it's the Devs' decision. I just can't see a viable argument for why getting "too much" XP for 2 days (via any method) would be game-breaking. There are people out there who can PL characters from levels 1 to 50 in a few days WITHOUT AE and they've been able to do that for years. Who are the Devs actually punishing with this moratorium on the Double XP weekends?

I just think it's sad all thing considered...

While it is totally out of control on Freedom, I also see 'em on Triumph, which is on the low-ish end of the population spectrum.

I was genuinely shocked they didn't slap it down during the last maintenance.

It's not, really. It was more just me finding it a little funny that the question of "Double XP" would come up or that it would appeal to a lot of people when the AE thing has been going on for weeks now without a fix. I admit that it doesn't actually address the "Double XP" issue.

No one is being punished. Holding off on a special event that they usually only throw out when theres a lull between events and issues or as a perk to a reactivation weekend isn't a punishment.

We've had a busy year that's kept most of us excited.

1. Free transfers at the end of the Winter Event in January.
2. Then the Spring Event.
3. Then Issue 17 and Ultra-Mode.
4. Then the Going Rogue Pre-Purchase with early access to two new power sets.
5. Then Issue 18 and Going Rogue itself with more free transfers.
6. Then the Halloween Event.
7. Soon to be released I19.
8. Shortly after that the next Winter Event.

I'll take a year like this last one over a 2xp weekend anytime.

I'm going out on a limb and guessing this has to do with whatever they use as their release management sytem. They'd need to create a branch release based on the current live code with the correction in place. They'd have to QC that branch to make sure they didn't accidentally load something they weren't supposed to (probably something from either I19 or even something further down the pike). Then they'd have to get it in the NCSoft deployment pipeline in front of I19 - this used to be a big pain when Cryptic was doing the coding, but maybe it's easier now that they're a subsidiary.

And all that assumes there's no resource bottleneck. In reality they might have to delay I19 if they did all that.

Release management for complex software systems is a pain. I need to get up at 3 AM to help deploy a release on a Sunday morning, so I have some experience with this. (I have no idea what tools or processes PS uses, however. I'm offering what seems to me like a reasonable hypothetical explanation for why they haven't addressed it ahead of I19. I fully expect it to be addressed when I19 lands.)

Well, we did have a double XP weekend this year.

When Dual Pistols became available to pre-orders, Double XP weekend started like 2 or 3 days later.

I'd be all for a DXPWE, but you know, with all that is happening, I would rather i19 comes out. I've been having fun already, but it'd be even more fun when i19 goes live.

I am not really looking forwards to the Winter Event, because unless they have something new this year I don't have alot to do on that. Also, it kills teaming for anything else, because people are so set to get the winter awards.

So when you have the time Devs, bring on the DXPWE, but until then, I'm fine with you guys working hard on the next Issue. Good Job!
