The "There should be a badge for that" Thread.
The Devs (IIRC it was Positron specifically) said they didn't want to create a badge for the Rikti drop ships because they never intended those ships to be killable to begin with. Obviously it's generally known that with a good group of people working on it those ships can in fact be killed. I myself have been involved with bringing 6 or 7 of them down once they went Live (I don't count the ones I helped kill during the beta because they were much easier to kill during the beta).
While I usually like any idea for adding new badges to the game I can actually almost accept the Devs' reasoning on this one. It does take a serious effort from lots of people to take one down, more effort than is really reasonable. Then again once there are a bunch of Incarnates flying around taking down a Rikti drop ship might be seen to be more within the realm of "realistically doable" by the Devs. |
- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!

Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!
But to do this people need a reason to do it... And a badge will help get people together for it. No badge... = sometimes hard to get enough together.

I think that's precisely why there ISN'T a badge for them.
For whatever reason the Devs (apparently) want to do everything they can to DE-motivate people from trying. They refuse to allow a badge for it and the only significant modifications to them (i.e. the protection from Slow debuffs) have been to make them HARDER to kill, not easier.
It seems silly the Devs want it this way, but it is what it is. *shrugs*

We probably won't ever get "Influence converted to Prestige" badges for the same reason we never got "Personal Prestige" count badges. The Devs don't seem to consider Prestige a thing that individual characters can "benefit" from in the form of badges.
Besides based on how relatively easy it now is to earn (then burn) 2 billion INF I kind of think getting badges for that would be a bit of an overkill. I don't play the market as seriously as some people do, but if I made it a priority I could probably earn (then burn) 2 billion INF within a couple of weeks, if that long. |
Or do you consider exploration badges and anniversary/event badges "a bit of an overkill" too?
Prestige conversion badges would be a good way to encourage burning inf, something the game needs and which everyone would benefit from.

Again, we get tons of badges for doing basically nothing (logging in at certain times, wandering over markers on the way to missions, etc etc).

As I implied I would probably have them almost instantly if they were introduced.
But there's a reason why the Devs, after repeated suggestions for badges like these, seem unwilling to bend in this case. Until they decide to rethink their position on more Prestige badges the idea seems pretty moot to me. *shrugs*

How about a change of pace. In addition to being a badge wh- er, enthusiast, I'm also obsessed with Temp powers. So how about some badges based on collecting and using those?
Adaptable: "When your usual methods failed, you've learned to use other means at your disposal, such as bats, swords, flamethrowers and arrows, to come out on top." Defeat 10 enemies using temp powers.
Tricky: "Armed with staffs, grenades, potions and gizmos, your enemies never know what to expect from you." Defeat 50 enemies using temp powers.
Walking Arsenal: "You have more guns, wands, nukes, spells and summon-able allies than some small countries. Just don't forget you have actual, you know, powers..." Defeat 100 enemies using temp powers.
Knowledge Base: "You know your enemies better than they know themselves." Use the Power Analyzer on 25 enemies.
Combat Medic: "No medi-porter? No problem! You've got what it takes to get your allies off their face and back onto their feet" Use a Dayjob or craftable Rez power to revive 25 allies.
Shields Up: "When you just can't inspire yourself enough to avoid incoming attacks, you remembered you've got a gizmo or a spell to help yourself out!" Spend a total of 1 hour being protected by any temp power which grants defense and/or resistance while in combat! (badge wouldn't tick without enemies attacking the player)
Master of Minds: "All manner of creatures, machines, and people bow to your will!" Summon 25 temporary pets (which must be active for at least 5 minutes)
Neither here nor there: "People are getting tired of you spontaneously appearing from halfway across the city". Use any cross-zone teleportation power (mission tp, pocket d pass, base tp, ww/bm tp) 25 times
TemporMental: (Accolade) "You've used all manner of temp powers for all sorts of things. It borders on obsession. One has to wonder about about your sanity..." Collect all the other temp-power related badges. Accolade power: TemporaMental (yes, misspelled on purpose): Click power. All Temp powers cost -25% less end to use, and have their effects or damage boosted by 15%, for 1 minute. 1 hour recharge (non enhanceable)

Believe it or not, sitting on 2 billion is actually kinda hard for some people. Besides, we've got all those other inf badges.
|
I'm not against there being a 2B inf badge, but now that the badge for earning 2B inf is reduced to only 500M, a good alternative would be to bring back the 2B badge as global earnings across all your characters instead.
I still think there should be a badge for completing all of the Ouroboros TFs (Lazarus, Silos, and Tesseract/Twilight's Son).
|
Maybe there should be a badge for clicking those "mysterious" crates that have appeared in various TF/missions in the game since Ouro came out.
Heck I think there should be a badge for completing ALL Red and Blue Ouroboros arcs.
My main badging character has already done that. |
...if we wanted to accommodate the growing list of arcs, we could simply make a badge for earning X amount of souvenirs (from non-AE arcs). Then we'd get multiple badges for the series, and more arcs would eventually bring more badges.
Completing every arc (all gold stars in the oro list) for red and blue sides respectively are great ideas, as well as every enemy group having a defeat badge.
However having any badge at all that requires doing content on both sides I don't like.
Should you have the option of switching sides to get the badge on the other side? Sure! Should there ever be an accolade that requires getting a bunch of badges from BOTH sides?
No.
In fact, there should be a badge for NEVER switching sides.
I want a badge for destroying 100 of those "Lab Equipment" objects that have a chance of giving a temp buff or debuff in that particular tech lab room.

also more defeat badges for signature enemies like the ones we have for Maelstorm and Deasdemona..... 1st in line is Frostfire as it was mentioned above
also badges for the ouro tf's would be nice too
i don't care about the inf cap badge, but i would love to have a badge for market buys (why only sells?)

Of course we have to say: "all inclusive badges are a bad idea because they could always add more arcs and the requirements would constantly change,.. blah blah", but I still agree. That's a fair amount of arcs there on both sides, and a few of them are a real pain on certain characters that don't solo well. I've run through them all on my 3 badge toons as well, and if it means another badge for doing it, I'm in... so...

But the idea of making a series of count badges for souvenirs is probably a better alternative. I haven't kept up with what the overall total could be on one character but it might be approaching 300 at this point.

Setting the bar at 300 sounds good to me, cause I'm sure we'd get there eventually with new arcs and TFs being added. At least it'd be better to have the badges there ahead of time so we don't end up with 300 of them and a badge for only 100, like when we were earning 600 or 700 badges with only a badge for collecting 200. haha
Speaking of TF souvenirs, anybody who is collecting these should make sure to double check for "Lady Grey Taskforce". Way back when the TF was released, the souvenir wasn't being awarded. I didn't earn it until I ran it again for the MoLGTF recently. There might be other ones with similar situations.
It'd probably be impossible to track, but after doing it so many times, I feel like there should be a badge for:
1. Chasing off Hellion/Skull girlfriends (the generic NPC notes, not hellion GfH bosses).; Potential Title: "No Time For Love".
2. Foiling Purse Snatchers; potential title: "Handbag Hero".
