Closed Beta and the NCSoft Newsletter.

I've just found out via the beta chat channel that if you've disabled receiving the NCSoft newsletter on your master account profile, you'll never be eligible for a closed beta invite ever again.

I'm not sure if turning the newsletter back on is enough or not, or if it needs a red name to get you back to being available for possible invites in the future, but for anyone who doesn't have the newsletter turned on, you should go to your master account right away, and edit your contact information to accept the newsletter.

Thank you Golden Girl. It's a wedding ring day, indeed.

Edit: I was wondering why I wasn't invited to this Beta. I know I've never been the best tester, but it seemed weird that this was the one time I didn't make the cut.

Toss my name in for the "Anecdotal Evidence" ring.

I'd also been in all the closed betas except this one - and I'd updated my profile info afeter GR came out, so I must have un-checked the newsletter box then too.

EDIT: From what I was told in chat, it does sound like re-accepting the newsletter isn't enough - a red name actually has to flag your account as open to possible future invites again - like un-checking the newsletter box is auto-recognized, but not the re-checking.

Exactly. I mean it's their perogative who they invite, so I wasn't bitter (Which is why I haven't brought it up until now). But I was confused as to why i19 was the issue where they realized how much nicer the day is when Marcian isn't Glee-ing it up.

I get the newsletters, but did not get a closed beta invite email. I did suddenly see the closed beta forums one day and, surprise, I could log in to the beta server. Checked spam folders and there was nothing there.

You might be in closed beta, but not get an email about it.

I just assumed that they were rotating the players they invited - like I never thought that I had any divine right to be invited

That's happened before - it seems that as long as you had the newsletter box checked, you were open for possible invites, even if the mail never got to you - but if you un-checked it, then you'd be permanently removed from the list of potential beta testers.

I had the newsletter box checked until GR launched, and I never got an invite for two of the previous closed betas - I just saw the closed section of the forums appear one day.

Since I was invited as part of the "Loyalty Beta Test of Issue 19" (I assumed it was part of the loyalty program) I was kind of surprised some Posters didn't seem to be in beta.

It makes sense.

You are either flagged as beta or not.

Someone has to turn that flag on or it is turned on when your account is chosen by a filter to fill open slots.

If you have the flag removed (no need to invite people who might never know and therefore be of no use) it would have to be rechosen either by someone again flagging it or it be being auto flagged by the previous mentioned filter.

Unchecking the newsletter box was one of the first things I did when signing up for the game years ago. However, I've been in several closed betas. So something must be wrong about that information. (And I just checked and yes, the box is still unchecked, just as I had left it. I did check it now just in case, though.)

I should note, though, that I never actually got any emails telling me I'd been accepted to those various betas. If I happen to know a closed beta is going on, I'll usually try to log in every couple of days to see if I've made it in. That, or checking for the closed beta boards, are usually the only ways I know I'm in. I didn't get into the i19 closed beta.

I haven't gotten the newsletter in ages, but have had it turned on since Day One. (Well, Day One minus 60 days, technically.) I just assumed they weren't doing it any more for whatever reason.

Also haven't been invited to any betas since CoV, which I assume isn't a coincidence. (Those with long memories for trivia may recall why.)

I've never subscribed to the newsletter and I've been invited to several betas over the years so I'm not buying any bridges from GG.

If you feel the need to say this you should just supply your evidence and be done with it.

I'll ask the person who brought it up in the beta chat channel to post the stuff they told me here.

EDIT: I'll PM TheOcho too, and ask him if he can comment on this.

Which makes it even more unreliable. Had you said you had gotten it directly from a redname I wouldn't believe it because I've gotten invites even tho I never subscribed to the newsletter. I dang sure as heck ain't gonna believe it from some third party that told you something he claims he was told by someone else.

Far as I'm concerned you were fed a line of bull.
