What happened to the MARKET????

"for silly amounts" -- were this statement actually true, then nobody would
Where that is correct in some sense, when people post these recipes for silly amounts the Market and Invention forum is not the only place they appear, a quick click on New Posts or Todays post's can also reveal these people selling these recipe's clearly in the title and also it dosen't help that sellers are bumping there thread to keep it at the top of those lists.

BUY those items if they believed that statement.
Since they clearly do buy (I just sold one last week), the amounts must be acceptable.
In other words, a person can only sell if another person is willing to buy.
Try selling a piece of pocket lint...
Try selling a L1 training enhancement to another player...
The reason people will pay those "silly amounts" is because they feel the
value of that item justifies its price. At that point, the amount is clearly
no longer silly.

this is an excellent money saving tip from the Cat.
Why not slot common IOs at 25-35 levels.
Save replacing the IOs and save a decent chunk of amount of inf over the remaining levels ? |
if you plan ahead a bit, you can get most crafted generic IOs for less than they cost to make thanks to our friends the badgers.
Buy em, slot em and forget em until you're ready to upgrade, for a fraction of the cost of constantly fluctuating and expiring SOs.

We need to crack down on all the people who pay that much for IOs. If only everybody would stop paying so much, then no one could get away with charging that much.
Someone please form a coalition of folks who will refuse to pay too much and recruit as many people as possible

When the Blessing of the Zephyr change came down the pike, I had a character who was going to lose defense at a level that represented a noticeable change in survival. I had around 9B inf on hand and no intention of spending it on other characters. (I enjoy the challenge of having each character bootstrap themselves to power.) I had 2.3B inf on the character who was getting hit hard by the change.
I didn't want the character to be downgraded that much by the change, so I spent 2B inf to get a PvP +3% Defense. That character remains one of my most effective. I do not feel that expenditure was "silly".
Edit: Oh, as of today, that character has 1.6B inf on hand.

Or at least I haven't changed my lowball bids and they still reliably get me IOs...maybe you were dealing with a lower price point or something.

I already joined the coalition of people who refuse to bid more than once on something they want, and refuse to wait more than 3 seconds for their order to fill. Apparently there's an exclusivity clause; I can't join any other clubs or they kick me out.

Craft your own.
Craft twice what you need, sell the rest. You'll have more money at the end than when you started.

Hey folks. I have been off COH for about 18 months. I had played up to 4 1/2 years before that..
Anyway, I remember back in the old days I could get items and IOls for decent price. Now though, it seems like everything is skyrocket high. What caused this a lack of supply that = huge demand? Where would I find info on how to work this new expensive market? Please sombody, just anybody HELP |

I regard anything as "silly" when it breaks the game code, 2bil is highest amount you can bid in game, 2bil is as much as a char can hold in game anything more than that is just "silly" (or greedy as the more unfriendlier term).

When I want something, I want it right nao and I bid until I get it. I guess I'm part of 'the problem' then since I'll pay top influence for something if I get it right away.

And with gleemail anybody can be 'carrying' 2b on them plus 2bil - 1inf X however many global mail slots we've got (10?).
Currently the inf cap is a fiction.

So if I wanted one of these PvP IOs, by your rules I should just put in my 2 billion bid, get in line, and hope that someday God (or RNG) will shine a light on me and my bid will actually fill?

(NOTE: I did have a 2 billion bid for the +3%def PvP IO for 3-4 months. It was never going to fill.)
What you're advocating for sounds like a Communist system: everybody get in line, hope you get lucky. What the players have opted for is a Capitalist system: if you can offer me more than I can get on the market, then we have a deal.
But if you happen across one of these PvP IOs yourself and want to sell it, I suppose you'd sell it through the market on principal?

I focused on one badge per 'day', placing bids on recipes and salvage then logging off. Usually, when I checked back I had all my components at my price point. Instead of choosing the "cheapest" IOs to craft, I picked the ones that would sell the best- I ended up only having to delete a relative handful of 'junk', nearly everything I made went out at a profit.
I don't know how yall get that badge and make a profit, I always lose tons of influence. I mean, I know the patience thing, I just don't have the patience to bid and wait for reasonable prices.
|
A couple of times I overpaid for stuff, usually when my full stack of salvage bids didn't fill.
And I also engaged in opportunistic crafting- if I spotted something cheap that I could use to make something expensive, I stocked up, crafted up a bunch and listed 'em for overnight sale. The more memorization badges I earned, the easier this became.
The profits aren't huge, but they're very reliable and the investment is negligible.

Yes i would put it on market for 2bil if that was the going price but i'm not about to sell it for more than that anywhere else.
Also I already have, i waited and brought it for 2bill, slotted it in my char and it didn't really make much difference so for 2bill I thought no way was i wasting that amount so respecced it out and sold it for 2bil.

There's no "breaking" involved. We can store inf in other places, or even as items that we sell for money. All the 2B "cap" prevents is that you can execute such a purchase as a single transaction. (Maybe. You could make the trade using the trade window in Inf plus things like crafted purples.) It in no way, form or manner prevents the purchase from happening.

Well that's fair. And I have yet to feel that I so desperately need one of these IOs that I'll spend over 2 billion on it.

Well, actually, I did strike a deal with someone for some amount over 2 billion a while back, but when it came time to make the deal he suddenly cancelled the trade and said he'd been offered more by someone else. That might have been true, but I felt like he was trying to play me so I didn't offer up anything more than what we'd previously agreed on.
Since that point I haven't been tempted to buy one off-market. But if I do decide to buy one, I"ll either buy it with a-merits or ante up to buy it off market, because I don't have faith that a market bid would fill in less than half a year. I have plenty of money and I don't have time to wait that long -- I might not even be playing half a year from now, who knows? If I can get it now, I don't care that I'm paying more than some arbitrary cap or ceiling that is only set by accident in any case. Just like when it was impossible to transfer more than 9,999 influence in a single trade, I didn't believe that trading more than that was somehow wrong or being greedy.

No kidding. I got a level 50 Posi proc the other night, and I remember being able to unload those for 5-7 million. Checked the market and there were 257 languishing in inventory and the last 5 had sold for 1,000 to 1,200.
