You must sit in the Shame Corner for the next five posts.

I watched the intro SFDF (lips) and about 10 seconds of OatFP... at which point I changed the channel.

To make me sit through the whole thing? There would be violence.

So you stopped watching when the show's plot started, well that makes sense. However you did miss the first "That's How Sue See's It" which was funny (remind children the true meaning of Halloween, FEAR).

Maybe because I hung around the drama (and musical) geeks for middle, high and a bit of college that I'm more accepting of the show's look.

I have to say as someone who is not a fan of RHPS I thought this episode was really good. In fact it actually made me want to try watching RHPS again (never got past the first 30 mins or so).

<---First opera at 11 years old. First college opera as the lead, yay for the soprano voice at 12 that didn't change until 13. Musicals over the next few years at the same college. Migrate fully to plays in high school. Theater/physics major drop out in college. Hell... maybe that's WHY I can't watch the show.

I'm a big fan of RHPS. Not a fan of Glee -- I hate every character in the cast.

Saw the Glee episode, though. The songs were okay. Kudos to the girl who played Frankenfurter, as she really worked her pipes and made that song her own. That's the only song that I wouldn't mind having a copy of in the Glee version.

Everything in the episode that wasn't sung was crap, IMHO...but I'm not here to fight with the gleeks.

If by watch you mean sit at home with the DVD, don't bother. That's only (barely) worth doing if you're already a fan.

Going to see RHPS at a midnight show with a cast however, that's what makes it interesting and worth it.

Brit line of the episode; "I'm going as a peanut allergy."
Funny story, my gf and I just watched it online because she was busy last night. She missed the cameo too, and I had already told her they'd be there (but not when/how). Apparently she'd been expecting Meat to sing so totally missed the guy in the suit talking.

Sorry BillZ, wasn't directed at you personally. Just thought some newbies to Glee might have objected to the cardboard stage sets when compared to the glitz/Broadway style sets they used in previous episodes.

Ohhhh, yea I misread the hell out of that. Thought you were saying that your connections to the drama types were why you watched it.

The costumes alone cost more than every production we ever staged, that's for sure.
Glee always has the battle with suspension of disbelief when it comes to their set numbers and their costumes. Will complains about the lack of funding for the club, yet each episode features at least one costume change and sometimes a big set piece.

And while the kids could be buying their costumes out of their own pocket or already own a few of them, their families have also been made out to be somewhat middle-class and I don't see them buying new clothing every week to match what ever the number dictates.

I think a lot of the big set pieces and costumes are more for those of us watching Glee as opposed to being in canon as actually being worn / built as evidenced by how the show cuts between various Glee room shots and the dressed up auditorium. If the set is 'real' they usually stay on the set instead of jumping back and forth.

Also, it has been established that the school has a ridiculously huge budget but that they just mismanage the heck out of it. You should learn half the stuff Sue has.

For example, the kids have all of their costumes now (presumably for the rest of the show) because the principle cut Sue's laundry budget.

How was the laundry budget so much? Because Sue was having her cheerleaders' clothes shipped to Europe to be steam cleaned after each performance.

Thats been suggested before but knowing how I am I will be more annoyed with the shouting and props people apparently bring.

After watching again on Hulu, I think one of the reasons Amber Riley's performance as Frankenfurter made such a strong impression on me was that she inadvertently conjured a memory of Tina Turner's "Acid Queen" from Tommy. She was great on her own, but the whole "mistress of temptation" angle, plus the cape and the sass, all she needed was a cigarette holder and a chromed iron maiden in the background.

If you haven't seen it before, here it is. It is edgy. Not 90's or Aughts edgy, it's rock opera edgy, kind of like Rocky Horror but less fluffy.

Turns out you have to watch all of a show to see it all.

It was an alright episode, although I think it would have simply been better as an episode of the performance, say at a midnight showing then the slightly contrived plot crammed in around the songs.

That said. I loved Brit as Colombia and Santana freaking rocked Magenta... but I think the MVP has to be Kurt who seemed to be channeling Richard O'Brian's campy "Riff."

I'm fairly sure that was Quinn (Dianna Agron) doing SFDF, althought she sounded like she was trying her damnedest, it's hard to hide that "breathy babydoll" voice.

Lastly. missed opportunity time. Sue should have burst in at the last minute with:

"Will-am Schu-ster... it's all over.
You Glee Club is a failure
Your hair styles' too extreme..."

She did watch it. She just didn't register who she was looking at as someone she should have known.

Most shows in most theaters don't allow the throwing of the food or the spraying of the liquids anymore. Don't like the shouting? Never yelled at something stupid on your TV before ever? That's what Rocky is, just to the nth degree.

Rocky is some cool songs surrounded by a bad (really bad) plot. I was frustrated the first time I went to see it too simply because I was trying to figure out what was being said onscreen. However I soon realized it's 95% irrelevant to the experience.

But it's got a great heart, and it's a great emotional journey for the protagonists -- through debauchery and back again. Unfortunately a lot of that subtext is missed because the capper, the song Superheroes, is missing from most reels of the film. (It wasn't in the original release; it's essentially part of a director's cut.)

It's the kind of film where you don't think too hard about the plot and just enjoy yourself. Then it's a good film. Even without the audience participation.

Glee should definitely stop doing themed episodes for a while. They can't properly write a story around a theme.
Yeah, I agree. While never a huge fan of the series, the old episodes do a better job of telling a story, then picking music that fits the moment. The theme episodes really struggle because the story gets constrained trying to contort itself around a narrow setlist and loses that surprise factor where you can just feel exactly what they're setting up for.

I loved this episode. Huge emphasis on respecting the source material and being written for fans. From Sue's "They threw toast" trauma to her "heckling" of Will during rehearsals, the episode was inundated with inside Rocky jokes that drove home that they were catering only to those that already knew.

Purely delightful, even if the overall story wasn't strong. Just like the original Rocky, I guess.

I just saw it, and it was a fine episode. It made me track down a copy of RHPS to finally watch the damn thing, so it must've been good. I'll re-watch it after I see the movie and see what I missed.

As I said I've never seen RHPS, but I've seen Richard O'Brien and damn but Kurt's impression of him was really good!

By the way, it was Santana who supplied the lips.
