WTF Purples?
I think it is pre issue launch hoarding.
with the new issue having a lot of lv 50 content I think purples are going to see a huge spike in prices across the board.

When people are playing their 50s more again, there will be more supply, and prices should drop.
I suppose hoarding could be part of it, but I somehow doubt it. As far as I know, they haven't announced a release date for I19 yet, so I don't know what would have happened in the course of a week to cause prices to shoot up so high so suddenly.
I realize that correlation doesn't imply causation, but it's hard not to suspect something to do with the halloween event, since that's really the only thing that changed in the last week. I'm just not sure why that would drive purple prices up.
Actually, I expect to see just the opposite. I18 had a ton of lowbie content and very little for the level 50s, so people weren't playing their 50s as much, and weren't generating as many purples, so prices went up.

Well, population levels have decreased since Going Rogue went live, so there's probably a decrease in available purples. And, as any economist will tell you, lower supply and high demand will result in a higher price point.
I realize that the market is more complex than that, but I find that the simplest solutions are usually the right ones. Occam had it right.
I find your lack of signature disturbing.
In order for a population decline to raise average prices it would need to have hit the suppliers of purples more heavily than the buyers of purples.

Yes, playing the game more often will get you more chances to obtain a purple, but being a farmer does not necessarily equate that you get more purples. But, I don't want to get into a debate on what random really means; there's already been a lot of threads on this anyway.
Another example is this: right now, there is a real low supply of Regenerating Flesh on the market; less than 100 for sale right now, which is unusual for a high level common salvage. Less 50s are playing right now, which means less Flesh getting to market. (That just sounds naughty. )
My thoughts? Just that we have less 50s playing right now, so we have a lower supply. Players are levelling their Praetorians/lower levels or just not playing until I19 or some other reason; I'm not sure. I'm no expert by any means; just trying to explain things by what I see.

[QUOTE=Frosty_Surprise;3281578]True enough, but I'm not sure that there is a subsection of people devoted as purple suppliers. Besides hero merits, is there any way to obtain a purple IO except random? Or can you even get them with hero merits? (Can't honestly remember right now.)

I have a fairly reliable way to pop purples. I run lib TV over and over on my main set to +1 x8. I can finish the map in around 30 mins when highly motivated and get a purple on average every other run. So if prices are high enough I can pop a purple an hour or so. I seem to have atrocious luck with popping purples by kind though and get way too many fortunata hypnosis recipes....and yet still manage to get alot of the good stuff too. Since prices are up I'll probably pop 2 on monday morning, when I next have the time to dedicate to purple popping.
Some other ways to pop them are to run TF like ITF and LGTF which go at level 50 (even with sub-50 toons) and so on.....anything killing level 47+ mobs is good enough.

even if you ran tip mishs everyday and bought a merit everyday you could only earn maybe 21 within a 2 week period, and thats really pushing for them, if you only buy or only run tips it could take 1-2 months to make enough to buy a purp with alignment merits
im guessing 95%+ of the market is entirely drops

Same here, just not the TV mish. Random isn't as random as people say. I can run the BM farm a couple times and come away with 1. Usually 1 per 3 runs or so. Set to 0x8 it takes 15 minutes to complete a run. I normally keep mine unless they are selling for the current prices. 500mil + = SOLD ASAP. lol. |
Random is random. Just when you're farming at x8 you kill enough guys to get one randomly. I do it on +1x8 rather than 0x8 because I get pool A drops and the occasional pool C drop all at level 50 that way.....I hate getting a good pool C from a boss and its level 49.
As far as purples: Less people playing is both less people wanting purps and less people providing them. I don't know the distribution of "less people playing" so I can't tell you which is more prevalent.
I do think you get more dramatic price swings on the weekend, both ways. More Buy It Nao, more "I'll sell this for whatever, I just need to get back to beating people up." Makes it nice standing in the middle profiting.

A lot of people got Praetorians to 50, which would presumably result in them entering the market for purples but not having been creating them all along.
Halloween on 8-man teams = easy power leveling. It's possible we're seeing a spike in interest in purples because people are either hitting 50 or planning on hitting 50 this week, and are buying kit to outfit those characters.
Some of it may be people buying in preparation for mass respecs come I19 and inherent Fitness, but that seems a bit of a stretch to me even as I write it.

Purples are super affordable.
I came back with Issue 18, I was broke as I had given most of my cash away before leaving.
It took me a month to fully IO w/4-5 purple sets 3 toons.
When something good happens to me, I can never enjoy it....
I am always too busy looking for the inevitable punchline...
BEHOLD THE POWER OF CHEESE!
I can't tell the noise from the signal on purples. There's always been a lot more variability in purple prices on weekends, but this weekend has been extra-crazy. There are literally last 5's where four of them are 500-800 million and one of them is 327 million.
I'm starting to wonder if someone found a secret fountain of inf, like when the AE Mastermind bug was going on and people could farm up 2 billion inf in a matter of hours.

What's not to understand? Purples almost doubled in price over the course of a week, and I'm trying to determine why.

I'm currently driving up the prices on Gravitational Anchors, my next project will be Fortunata Hypnosis!

I'd say more people are buying up purples to outfit their 50s in hopes of getting a leg up on the I19 content. Marketers may buy purples and re-list them higher, but that's not going to do much to the prices unless a whole bunch of people simultaneously decide "you know what, time to break the ol' piggybank open and get those purples I've been wanting". The announcement of I19 with its level 50 content would provide that motivation.
I just had an Absolute Amazement (Stun) drop the other day and sold it for 100 mil, so I'm happy.

Seems pretty obvious to me why people are preparing/hording for that.

What is up with purple prices. I go on a business trip for a week and come back to see that purple prices for a lot of things have close to doubled. Something to do with the halloween event I guess?
