hybrid names

I have been messing around with names that are a combination of two words or phrases

Guerilla War + Warlock for Guerilla Warlock
Calamity Jane + Janus for Calamity Janus

I could use some ideas for a hybrid names. Stuff for Dual Swords, Dual Pistons, Earth Assault + Plants, Pain or a good Brute name would be nice as I run around Praetoria.

The first thing that popped into my head was "Dual Welder" for a DB/Fire Scrapper. Unfortunately, there's no blowtorch option for dual blades.

Another one I used for a temporary name on the Training Room was "Gunsinger". Gunslinger + singer. A Sonic/DP Defender styled as a glamorous wild west era singer wielding two revolvers.

Devs -- make this powerset a reality!!

I play Gunsinger on Virtue. She's a tribute to Lady Gaga.

I also have Arrowminded (arrow + narrowminded) there. Archery/Mental blaster.

First thing I thought of was Dog Welder

I would play it in a second. It would be great for Praetoria.

Hmm. Not all of these qualify as hybrids, but here are a few names I've written down over the years but never actually used (some because they'd probably result in a /rename. ) People are welcome to steal from this list if they want, since I have way more names than I could ever hope to play. Others I have actually rolled at various times but deleted or rerolled.

Rad Hominem
Veloci-Rapper
The Blast Supper
Blast of the Mohicans
Grace Anatomy
Sparkimedes
The Filth Element
Anne Colder
Static Clang
The Pimpath (Empathy/Assault Rifle, and also likely a TOS violation )
Crossbow Volt
Quarkangel
Sleet Sixteen
Thermenator ~OR~ Ex-Thermanator
Ba-ba-ba-Bloom
Hawaiin Ion
The Game Dropper
Flower Boost
Socket Launcher
Emophilia / Chemophilia
Polterchrist (see TOS violation above)
Geode Joe
Elrond Hubbard (looks like someone already took this on Virtue)
Cold Mother Hubbard
Musical Flares
Grape Balls of Fire (simply has to be a Fire/FF Controller)
Sonic Bloom
Ablazing Grace
Ohm on the Range
Killowasp (which I believe someone said he was taking last time I posted a version of this list)
Riot Earp
Claw and Order
Jurassic Spark (also: Atlas Spark, but I kept that one already, on Virtue at least )
Truth Decay (a crazed dentist?)
Jack of all Blades
Pyre Tuck / Frier Tuck
Little Miss Mullet
Wight Christmas
Cold Saint Nick
Boogity Blue
Glowing Pains
Shock Jaques

I'd suggest a psi/psi type called the Mule but, of course, Generic City.

I used to fiddle with my back feet music for a black onyx. My entire room absorbed every echo. The music was . . . thud like. The music was . . . thud like. I usually played such things as rough-neck and thug. Opaque melodies that would bug most people. Music from the other side of the fence.

The only thing I have is "Pandala," as a melding of Panda and Koala, naturally.

I have a relentless mechanical assassin from an alternate future where a central Asian steppe empire has conquered much of the world using advanced military technology...it's named Mongoldroid. (****** + android).

Its enemies call it a Genghis Can, of course.

I have the name on Infinity but you're welcome to use it for a brute elsewhere.

edit: hrm...interesting that that particular word is censored. Perhaps they're still afraid of the Great Khan after all these years?

To be honest, I'm slightly surprised the toon hasn't been genericed yet. Maybe making the usage clear is enough to protect it. I guess it has a Genghis Khan style outfit?

Yeah, as much as I can manage in the costume creator (mis-using some Samurai pieces and so on).

I'm not sure why it would be genericed at all, though...I didn't pair it with "idiot."

Of course they are!

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"

"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."

English lesson for the day:

Actually, what you are looking for aren't "hybrid" names. A "hybrid name" would be similar to a "splice name," which would be akin to my claws/elec scrapper named Slash Dynamo. "Slash" to represent the claws and "Dynamo" to show the electric. Both words combined, or spliced, into one name. It's a more general term than what you are looking for.

More specifically, what you are looking for are Portmanteau names, like Blackula (Black+Dracula), Manaconda (Man+Anaconda), Mandroid (man+animal), for example. Portmanteau words are two words jammed together that form one word that retains both meanings, like smog, blaxploitation, slithy, fugly, brunch, fantabulous, flare, Reaganomics, altaholic, Spanglish, infomercial...

Have fun.

Never argue with stupid people. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I am sad to report that the only portmanteau name I have is my /Thermal Mastermind, Forgeteen (who is fourteen). I really need to get more.

I found some good ones with Biopunk and Gun Fu. The interesting thing was the person posting these words has the same name that I do. So perhaps I am trying to use these words for myself and somewhere in a dark corner of the world my Praetorian opposite is busy trying to get people other than myself to use these words.

The origin of these words has a lot in common with making your choices in Praetoria. 'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master—that's all.'
