Would you watch a 5th Indiana Jones movie starring "Mutt" as the new Indiana?

Another note I want to point out: In the 4th movie, there's a scene where Indy and Mutt are in Indy's friend's office. While Indy's being awesome, Mutt is delivering a character-establishing monologue. In it, he explicitly states that he finds historical stuff fascinating, understands it, and can hold his own. He then clarifies that this passion of his is rarely relevant, even if it is there.

While I can agree that it would be weird if Mutt suddenly started doing Indy-class puzzle solving, it was established that he could. The audience just quickly forgot, because that brief monologue is never relevant to the movie. You see, apparently when you establish a vital part of a character, you neither need to validate it or make it relevant. >.>

But yeah, the character was written to be able to do those things, but the director forgot to actually cement that.

As someone who does like Mutt, that mistake in particular annoyed me about the 4th Indy film.

I need to watch Crystal Skull again.
When we watched it in the theatre, we greatly enjoyed it. It was big adventure/action in the way that Indy movies are intended. I, personally, didn't like the gophers and the monkeys... But, besides those brief instances, I enjoyed it a great deal.
I've only watched it once since then, when it came out on DVD.
I think I may fire up a full Indy marathon over the next few days (Although... Temple Of Doom can be very painful...).

A 5th movie? No, but maybe a 6th. They need at least one more movie to establish the character and effectively pass the torch.

My main problem with the 4th one is that, unlike the first three Indy Films (or god forbid the prequel star wars), I just could not suspend belief long enough to enjoy it. It just felt like the whole thing was forced.

Please, there are far worse movies I could sit through and suspend disbelief. Like I said that one was so forced in every scene I could not enjoy it.

Nope, Shia's overrated as an actor and he certainly doesn't have the charisma to pry the mantle of Indiana Jones away from Harrison ford.

That said KOTCS was pushing it for Harrison as far as an action figure, If Spielberg wants to do one more they'd better hurry.

That moment at the end in KOTCS where Indys hat blows in the wind and falls at Shias feet was a horrible moment for me as a fan of the original, i thought for a second they were genuinely going to endorse him & springboard him into the role. Yuk.

Raiders of the Lost Ark was (and is) the only real raiders film for me personally. The sequel (even by the actors admission) was awful, the third.... passable.

If it was done right as a, "passing of the torch", kind of movie, then yes I would watch it.

I would rather they re-cast Indiana Jones, a la James Bond.

Trouble is there are no actors in the 35 yr+ age bracket that could touch the role, it absolutely indellibly Harrison's in everything the characters about, the humour, the smirk, vocally, everything. You might get someone who looks like they could play the character, but really it would just feel like an Alan Quartermain.

There is a gap in the market and a place for these adventure matinee's as Lucas/Spielberg first imaginned thirty years ago - but if a Star Trek XI style reimagining were ever to happen I would rather it be after a long long absence of the character from the silver screen.
Maybe by then there would be an actor aged 35+ on the market who could carry the role.

Hmm... This latest reply begs a new question *points to altered subject line*

Would you watch a 5th Indiana Jones movie starring Pee Wee Herman as the new Indiana?

I'd have to say that I would definitely watch that.

Pee Wee, in his regular outfit plus fedora and whip!!!

Passing the torch to Mutt would be the wrong idea IMHO. There are three distinct problems, most of which have been stated in this thread:

1) An unacademic, uneducated lout taking over from Indy. Wrong!

2) A quite frankly dull time period compared to the 1930 - 40s.

3) A leading man with as much charisma as a plank of wood.

Now if someone suggested doing Indy prequels with a competent actor in the role, then I'd be interested. Compare and contrast The Beef's stint as Indy's sidekick to the pre-credits sequence in Last Crusade and there's no contest.

You're wrong on point #1. The rest are valid. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one here who doesn't hate him. I'm a weirdo.

Regarding point 1: while Mutt did say he dropped out, it was also shown that he wasn't an idiot, just lacking in the real world experiences of his father. he is sword trained for starters and seems to have enough mental agility to adapt to situations like his father.

Also I suspect that Indy will be pretty much handcuffing Mutt to a desk to get his education up to speed. A professor, and now assistant Dean of the University like Indy would not want a drop out for a son.

Also they could easily tweak the story for #5 and say that his adventure with his dad rekindled his academic interests and that he willfully returned to his studies.
