Womynist #2: Um... Yes. We, would like, a beer.
Jock #1: Okay!

Womynist #1: So it's like, if you're nice to them, they *bring* you things?
Womynist #2: Exactly.

This is true. Also, the flowchart is true too.

I'm having a bit of trouble with the implication that none of the character types and examples shown are considered Strong Female Characters.

OK I only skimmed the thing but I'm pretty sure I saw Ellen Ripley in there.

Edit: And after looking again, I also see Sarah Conner.

If those two don't qualify as Strong Female Character, I don't know who does.

This was pretty much my reaction to it. It's kinda insulting for the creator to assert that there's one, and only one, way to make a strong female character, or that every character referenced on the chart, a number of whom are quite good and renowned characters, are somehow lacking that magical quality. I'd be interested to see the author provide an example of a strong female character by his or her criteria, rather than a mass of counter examples.

Anyway, that's probably taking it a lot more seriously than it was intended. It had some humor to it.

Sarah Connor passed from damsel in distress to ******* crazy to rabid momma bear. She was either victimized or an aggressor. At no time did she demonstrate more than two dimensions of subtlety and at no time was much more than a caricature of whatever role she was in at the moment.

I'm not disputing that she had moments of awesomeness and was worth rooting for, but she was not complex and was much closer to "strong" female character than a legitimate strong female character.

Don't forget that this is a flowchart for one or two dimensional female characters. Don't expect any well developed characters.

The whole point of the chart is that if you can describe the woman with a few words to characterize her, then she's not a strong female character with any depth.

Or... it's showing that there are indeed strong female characters but they often get dismissed with a few words casting them into a shallow type.

Either way... men are pigs.
