Who has maxed ultra mode?

Who has maxed Ultra Mode, and what are you using to do it? I have been looking for a thread showing exactly what it takes to run Ultra Mode at max settings and keep a decent frame rate.

Lets say for the sake of the thread "decent frame rate" is minimum 30+ fps.

So tell us if you have it maxed, and what your build includes (GPU, CPU, RAM, MOBO) also be sure to mention what resolution you are running.

Thanks!

I'm assuming it must be a pretty insane system. I have a gtx 480, 2gb ram and a 3.0 core 2 duo wolfdale intel and I certainly cannot do it.

I just ordered a core 2 extreme qx9650 though and 4 gb of ddr3 2000 ram as well as windows 7 64 bit. Hopefully that will be enough.

As I understand it coh uses open GL rather than direct x and that would explain alot of why its so dang hard to get it to run as well as other games. You need more processing power and ram than anything.

I run real close to max. Keep in mind that my mobo/ram/cpu are a little older (ddr2). Also I could use an upgrade in the hdd department. Other than that, as long as I keep Occlusion one notch below max and FSAA at 8x I do pretty good.

*edit: I should note that last night I was running around Striga getting anywhere between 25-55 fps with these settings.
*edit2: In response to Zombie man's post: Gaming Monitor: 23" LED running at 1920x1058 (1080 but using windowed mode thanks to Win7 and Aero on 2 monitor setup....)

I can run pretty much everything cranked to max on my machine, with the exception of occulsion. It is a fairly heavy FPS hit when I turn it on/up.

I run at 200% detail, 8x AA, everything else on and set to the highest. I generally run occulsion on quality or performance if I want the increase. I'd imagine I'd probably want one of the newest video cards like a GeForce 460 to avoid that issue.

System:
Intel Core i7 920
Intel DX58SO mobo (There is a better 2nd gen of this board being released shortly, great board but it has some positioning weirdness)
6 GB of DDR 3 PC3-12800 (Patriot Viper specifically)
GeForce 260 GTX Core 216 896 MB (EVGA)

I'd probably replace that 260 with a 460 Fermi card now in order to get better FPS and occulsion support. The machine I'm using now is a bit over 2 years old now. Also as a note I'm running a dual monitor set up as well. Two 20.1" LCDs, resolution 1680x1050.

The question is meaningless unless you also specify what monitor(s) you're using and and what your resultant FPS is.

If you have a small monitor you might be able to get away at fully maxed settings at 15-20 fps with the latest technology.

If you have a large monitor, you'll see the fps drop to 5. Would you call that slide-show as actually having maxed ultra mode? (It's great for screen-shots, though.)

Until true dual graphics chips drivers are enabled for CoH, you won't see anyone having 30 fps (the usual standard for playability) on a large screen monitor with everything maxed out.

Each maxed out special feature of Ultra Mode can be adequately displayed, if the other settings are turned down. The technology is still not in place for all the features to be maxed out all at the same time on a large screen at an acceptable FPS.

Great info so far. Let's keep it coming. It's nice seeing the results people are getting with different hardware. Personally I am running a GTX 260, 4GB ram and q6600 oc'd to 3.2ghz.

I used to come to near max settings, but I just bought dual 23" LCDs and had to drop some effects to keep decent frames. I am also looking for some advice on my setup as to whether I should buy another 260 and run SLI. If you can give input on that I'd appreciate it. That thread is here:

I have to wonder about some of the responses so far. Where are they spending most their time?

Indoor missions I can crank everything to the max and hold 60fps no problem.

Step out into grandville, praetoria, or faultline and watch the fps barely hit the 20's if I'm lucky.

Turning world detail down to 100%, AA to 4X, AF 16x, and keeping AO pretty low and shadows just about minimum will keep me in the 45-60fps range in the above outdoor areas most the time, but still dip into the 20's-30's depending on where I'm standing.

q6600 - 3.0GHz
Abit iP35 Pro
6GB Corsair 1066 DDR2 (running 1001MHz)
GTX 285 oc'd to eVGA SSC settings
1920X1200 LCD

Looking forward to building a new rig once Sandy Bridge gets released.

Windows XP Pro 32-bit

ATI Radeon 5770 HD

All preference at maximum except:
FSAA 4x
Occlusion on Performance
DoF off (I don't like it)
World Detail at 400% (by using /visscale 4)

Capped 60 fps inside missions and almost always 40+ outside.

so? It does mean nothing.

Code changes. It's possible that one of the background changes to the code now makes a corrected API code that only a more recent driver will properly understand.

Case in point: Intel and Nvidia drivers on the original introduction of Ultra Mode. Nvidia loves to use proprietary OpenGL extensions to boost performance of their graphics cards in certain situations. The most famous of these extensions was the Nvidia "UltraShadow" tech on the GeforceFX. Intel has to use proprietary OpenGL extensions since Intel's actual graphics chips are just glorified Graphics Accelerators that rely on the central processor for many graphical tasks.

The UltraMode rendering engine was written closer to the Khronos OpenGL API specifications, which would theoretically mean the exact same image across OpenGL API's. OpenGL 1.x cards would have one image setting, OpenGL 2.x cards would have another image setting, and OpenGL 3.x cards would have yet another image setting.

When Paragon Studios first introduced Ultra Mode, CoH Players with drivers that didn't adhere to the Khronos OpenGL API Specifications were knocked out.

So. No. In point of fact, it does not really matter that you were able to run any code-path in a stable manner before hand.

Yes. It might matter if you take the matter up with your graphics card vendor, reporting a bug in the way a driver set handles any particular expected rendering system, and you want to provide data to determine a break-point.

I am currently able to run CoH at full maximum. All settings on, depth of field off, 8x antialiasing, and 400% (here be dragons) world detail, all smooth in all Praetoria zones. Here are my vital statistics.

CPU: Intel Core i7 920 (core 3.6GHz, uncore 3.2GHz, quickpath at maximum rated speed)
RAM: 2x2GB Corsair DDR3-1600
GPU: Radeon 5850 1GB
Motherboard: ASUS P6X58D-E
Hard drives: One Samsung Spinpoint F3 1GB for the OS, Two 500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12s in RAID 0 for games (First physical 6GB of sectors dedicated to a pagefile partition)

Watercooling up the jacksie

I've found that CoH loves it some memory bandwidth. Tweaking my system to deliver 20GB/s rather than 15GB/s yielded a 10FPS performance boost. (Doing so involved increasing the BClk to 200MHz and decreasing the CPU multiplier to maintain the same maximum core speed, allowing stable 1600MTs operation, while overclocking the uncore.) God only knows what it'll do when I chuck a third set of DIMMs in there.

I get between 30FPS to 40FPS, even when I go out of my way to stand in an area that tanks performance.

Curiously, if I have a Flash video opened in the background, my FPS halves. Must be something to do with GPU acceleration. It happens in Just Cause 2 as well.

My settings aren't completely maxed, but they are most of the way there. And this is at 2560x1440. I get 30+ outside in Paragon City consistently. Generally around 30 in outdoor CoV except in Grandville where it slows down for everyone. Praetoria is quote smooth.

Indoor missions don't usually take advantage of many features of Ultra mode, like shadows and the reflective surfaces. One of the reasons why there's a big difference. The Praetorian Labs might, with the shiny walls, but that's about it.

Link me to where I can purchasing this laptop please. Or give me full name of it. :3 Thanks!

And to play at all Maximum on laptop what would be needed extra? Is there such laptop that lets you play at Maximum? And maximum for desktops would need what, no not ''mostly there'', just plain specs of what a fully loaded with everything maxed out (turned on) computer needs.

I'm running at max with zero lag.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Intel Core i7 920 CPU @ 2.66ghz
XFX X58i motherboard
6GB 1333mhz G.skill DDR3 triple channel ram
Sapphire HD 5850 1GB video
Intel X25 40GB SSD + WD blue 2.5" 750GB @ 7200rpm + 4TB external

I have:

Intel Core i5-760 OC'd to 4.2 Ghz
8 GB DDR3 1600 MHz
Radeon HD5870
22" monitor at 1680x1050

With that setup, and all graphics settings completely maxed, I can get 20+ FPS anywhere. Praetoria, Grandville, you name it.

To get into the low 30s, I have to either turn down FSAA or Ambient Occlusion.

To play in Praetoria, I have to turn shadows way down, due to the annoying graphical flicker I constantly get outside (did anyone ever solve that by the way?)

Note that it's largely impossible to "Max everything out" in CoH Ultra Mode Currently (with the possible exception of SLI) but I consider myself to be basically maxed out.

I have everything "maxed"EXCEPT (World Detail at 124%, AA at 8x (above that doesn't see much improvement (maybe in Praetoria) and just slows the game down, I don't think CoH textures benifit from 16xAA or higher), Bloom is "Regular" and at 100% (That's just a taste thing, really). Ambient Occlusion is "High Quality" (2 notches down from maxed--Maxing this pretty much takes my game to 10-12fps in most situations). my Res is 1920x1200 on a 24" Dell monitor.

I get around 40-50fps in most places, praetoria drops to around 40 even. (talking outside, most missions I can get between 30 and 60 depending). I do not have VSynch enabled as that tends to lock the CoH FPS to around 30, especially outside in praetora, but doesn't always do it in missions.

I run an AMD Phenom II 965 Black on an MSI NF-750a-G55 motherboard (using Nvidia 750a SLI chipset).

I run 8GB of 1333 Geil Ram (7-7-7-24-2T 1.5v Dual Unganged - stock timings)

Running an Nvidia GeForce GTX 470 Superclocked from EVGA (1280MB RAM) and using the motherboard's onboard graphics for PhysX (which has no real effect on CoH, as PhysX is still handled by the CPU..not that I don't have cycles to spare, but really guys, now that SLI works, let's get on updating the PhysX support for Nvidia hmm?).

Th rest of the components are less relevant, but I use an Antec 900 Case with 5 120MM Antec Tri-Cool fans, and one top 200mm fan, the power supply is a BFGEX 1000W PSU (in case I later add a second 470).

I use a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB drive as my "main" with a 1TB WD Greenpower Data drive, and an external esata dock for backups. Running Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit.

Now just imagine how the sucker would run with a second 470? I could probably actually max out ambient occlusion....maybe...but I doubt it. At the least I'd run a solid 60fps.

EDIT: For Reference my Windows Experience Index is as follows:

CPU: 7.4
Memory: 7.5
Graphics: 7.6 (was 7.5 until the latest driver update)
Gaming Graphics: 7.6 (was 7.5 until the latest driver update)
Primary Hard Disk: 5.9
Overall Score: 5.9

(Darn that lack of an SSD to break the 5.9 "barrier").

I don't have a tricked-out rig, but I am running Ultra Mode at max.

I've got a Dell Dimension E520, Core 2 Duo 6400 @ 2.13 GHz, 4GB of RAM, Windows Vista 64-bit Ultimate edition, and the video card is a Sapphire HD 5670 with 1GB of GDDR5.

I had some flicker problems in Praetoria when GR first launched, but the last two updates of ATI drivers seem to have fixed that.

I can't imagine you'd be able to run UM at max with that rig, especially Ambient Occlusion. What sort of FPS do you get?

You may want to consider overclocking your uncore. Doing so will get you more memory bandwidth, which CoH seems to enjoy.

To clarify, I can max out all settings, even 400% world detail and ambient occlusion, although I can't use the more esoteric AO modes available in the Advanced options. That said, I can still use the Ultra AO setting.
