i guess i'm having no luck with search and looking through the forums. where do superteams and player events advertise nowadays? (not sg/vg, superteam, i.e. themed for fun and craziness).
  3. do you have ultra mode enabled?

load the game, select safe mode. see if it lets you in the game. if it does... then go to options and select other than the basic video options... do NOT enable ultra at all.

see if it works properly for you. the patch appears to have jacked up ultra for some of us, apparently at random, since official "technicians" don't seem to have answers to fix this.

So tell us if you have it maxed, and what your build includes (GPU, CPU, RAM, MOBO)
    Thanks.
i was... until this last patch. which killed cox for me. and which "technical" support suggested a video driver upgrade, because apparently my running ultra maxed previously meant nothing.

for me.. war, wow, sc2, eve, and a few other like games work completely fine. even today. cox worked fine prior to whatever that last patch was.
  6. me too...

i hadn't logged into COX for a couple of weeks. the only change on my box since that time is there was some update for cox. i also have this issue. when mine crashes - it restarts the blooming computer.

i can't believe this problem is just isolated to a handful of us...

so there wasn't a patch that made "allies" eat up a lot of xp in ae missions?

It limited the farming that was abusing the exploits that were plugged by the patch. I'd even say that it stopped that kind of abuse completely. The normal kind of farming isn't affected, and wasn't targeted by the patch.
yes, it fixed it in the same way you'd have a solution by throwing out the baby with the bath water.

    obvious is obvious.

what about having purples drop at pretty much all levels? i'm not being sarcastic... if the level cap is getting upped in going rogue (possibly one level in i17? idr); then, lvl 50 purples won't be the only purps we have any longer... why not just make them lvl 8ish-level cap sets?

this isn't an "exploit" that suddenly appeared last week, this is an exploit that has been around for 5 issues, a couple of literal years (as opposed to dog years).

is your sarcasm actually needed? are you insinuating the dev team is so completely incompetent that they could not come up with a better fix over the course of years?

wow. what is wrong with you? seriously. i'm not down with rere forum drama.

Will this be the final action taken to resolve the exploits? Probably not, they'll likely go back and change what an "ally" is to not include hostages and such. But it's pretty brain-dead to assert, like I see a lot of people doing here, that it's better to leave an open exploit than to patch it. Duh.

And contrary to all the ZOMG, DOOOOOM!-criers here, this is but a blip on the radar of the vast majority of players, if even that. Of all the things that you imagine will destroy the game (or even the AE, for that matter), this is really low on the totem pole of reality. In a nutshell, if you're going to swear off AE because it's not as farmable as it was, good riddance. I don't want you playing my arcs anyway, because I assure you that you wouldn't like them (I have to read!!?), and you'd probably just one-star them.
well, this "exploit" has been around for how many months/years? another week or two to tweak what is/isn't considered an ally would've been too long? after how many years?

then you wouldn't have the storyteller population up in arms.

is that honestly too much to expect from a matured game developer team?

Warshades have high highs and lower lows, they're dependent on enemies around them to up their output, and feel more scraptroller-y in human form.

And I don't even know what to tell you about the VEATS. If you think a Widow or Bane Spider is "garbage"? I really don't know where your criteria are. I have one of each, and they're monstrously awesome.
VEATs barely have any storyline, much less an epic arc.

Undeterred, the lawman keeps to his duty and faces the killers alone. Quick, does this story take place in Hadleyville, New Mexico or the moons of Jupiter?

Ever notice how Shakespeare's plays are usually transplanted to other settings and times? Orson Welles, working with WPA actors (i.e. people who weren't really actors and had no experience) put on a production of Macbeth set in Hati, with voodoo and mambos. It was hailed as a triumph.

If you've got an actual story (doesn't have to rival Doestoyevsky, just something with an actual theme), as opposed to a mere narrative of events, then you can set that story anywhere with any characters. If the whole thing is going to fall down if you can't use a particular AV, there was nothing there to begin with.

if someone wants to fight alongside various of LR's inner circle, or against them, you sorta have to use those specific AVs. all of you people who say "you have no story if you HAVE to have a particular npc" are just wrong. if i want to play with/against signature characters, then those specific toons have to be used.

For many players (not most or all); the game ends at the first 50 or the next few 50s thereafter... and so does their subscription. Players blazing to get nowhere have their fast fun and then many say meh and take their money with them.

I'm sure there are those players that stick around after their umpteenth 50 but it's probably not the majority of the playerbase and hence; not the majority of the money.

but again, i know a few people who have quit, their highest toon (singular) being in the mid/high 20s and they were just frustrated with the lack of leveling.

you're already getting XP stolen by the PPD attacks. right?

this type of mission is just as affected.

but, i can set my normal world missions to spawn 8-man-sized mobs, for my farming pleasure, and that's fine and dandy.

the devs are sending two completely contradictory messages about farming (again).

In the jelly bean and weenie farms - the ones which instigated this patch - it took hours to get into the early twenties. And that's assuming you didn't have a bunch of AFKers and everyone had enough powers to string together an attack chain. It was still fast leveling, but nowhere near the exaggerated claims I've heard in this thread. All AE has done is made PLing available to the masses instead of restricting it to those with the cash and/or connections to doorsit their way to 50 in PI. Which is funny to me, because in the current AE farm paradigm team members get kicked if they're not playing. Also, let me say that given the... idiosyncratic behavior of ally AI in this game, there is plenty of risk in counting on them to follow you and keep you buffed. Trust me, there's plenty death to be had in a jelly bean farm, especially if you add minions to the GM spawns...

As someone who's been around since the dumpster + Burn combo, I have to say that this conflict doesn't seem any closer to ending now than it was when I started playing. Perhaps it would be better to assess why so many people want to PL in the first place? We can argue about it all we want on the forums, but at the end of the day the actions of the player base speak for themselves. For me personally, I'm another one of those players who levels many characters normally, and PLs others. Some builds are fun from level one, and others are late bloomers; it's just that I've been playing long enough that I don't get any enjoyment from slogging through a late bloomer, and if the means are available I'll gladly skip to the good part. For me this usually starts at level 22 (3-slotted Stamina + IOs), although I have on occasion PLed myself to the mid 30s for a particularly weak character.

I also used to PL folks for free back before they started making AE farms where lowbies could PL themselves; it was often fun just to hang out and chat with folks, something that almost never happens on a regular team. Although to be fair sometimes people would get bored and start squabbling with each other, and then I'd get a headache and have to stop playing for a day or two. But I have to hand it to the devs, it was pure genius to improve the mission difficulty system so we didn't need lowbies to pad spawn sizes anymore. Yet here we are arguing about farms again, leading me to conclude that clever quality of life upgrades are not going to end this back-and-forth. The only solution I can think of is to somehow enrich the leveling process itself, so that even someone who wishes they could PL straight to 50 would say “No, no... if I were to suddenly hit 50, I'd miss out on X, and that would SUCK so badly!” But as long as the value of X is “a whole ton of warehouse missions” then we can expect PLing to continue.

    i concur.

perhaps the problem (and also the answer) lies in players who
1 are lazy/don't have the time to play (a LOT) but want no one else to have more than they have and
2 players who define "farming" on very narrow terms and willfully justify THEIR OWN farming because it falls outside of their narrow definition.

no one is forced to use AE
no one is forced to use IOs
no one is forced to use AH/BM
no one is forced to pvp

these are ALL optional parts of this game. OPTIONAL means you do not have to participate in them or even acknowledge they exist.

yet, the playerbase has a LOT of knowitall busybodies dead-set on destroying everyone's playing which does not conform to THEIR acceptable way of playing.

i pity those people, for a multitude of reasons.

as for this fixing AE farming -- um, i can now set my missions to a + or - level and have them automatically generate mobs for 8 people WITH the options to have AVs or not... the normal "game" is already begging me to farm it relentlessly -- take the blinders off and see the poop you're traipsing thru.
