character location mysteriously changed
The other day I was playing my level 12 corrupter in Cap Au Diable. I had just picked up a mission from Dr Shelly Percy, but needed to leave for a bit to do some errands. Before logging off, I parked my character right outside the mission door, which was a cave entrance on the south-east corner of the map, just past the Arachnos airfield. A few hours later I logged back in and found my charcater in the lobby of one of the buildings in Aeon City near the AE buidling. This was nowhere near the location where I logged out, nor had I even recently passed close to that area.
This has never happened to me before. Is this a known glitch that just happens sometimes? |
2) (Very Unlikely) Player had a "Confuse" effect from a critter in a Door Mission or a Foe from Bloody Bay or an outdoor ambush, then used "TP Foe" on you, repeatedly, as it doesn't have *that* long of a range.
Also: I don't think a Confuse would hold after zoning out of a PvP Zone anymore (Thought that was fixed...some PvPers were Confusing each other, then porting to a PvE zone and killing other players.)
<Note: Can't do it to a character that is logged out, but maybe during the count-down timer?>
3) Most Likely: Odd Glitch. Never seen that before, but....stuff happens.
Another unlikely possibility: you parked yourself near a hold in the geometry, and when you logged back in, you fell through it, and the game yanked you to what it determined to be a safe area.
Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted.

Or... someone hacked your account and was playing around, or moving to sale your stuff or move to the respec guy to strip things for his use, when you logged back in, hence logging him out and, bam! there you are. Not likely, but could happen.
1) If you were teamed (which I doubt), a teammate could have used Recall Friend or the similar Vet Power, unless you had it set to require prompts for permission.

This is what I was afraid of, but nothing else seemed amiss, and I don't know why someone would hack my account just to move a character halfway across the zone. Maybe I better check my other character's stuff, but for now I think I'll just assume I fell through a hole like Aett suggested.
That building is right beside the AE right? that's a very common building to login to.
I was solo at the time, so I can rule this out. But good theory, I don't know if I would have thought of it.

Did this happen on Tuesday, about midday? Same kind of thing happened to me, only not so obvious. I was away from keyboard for too long and got logged out while at one of the NPCs in WW in Talos. I came back about 40 min later and logged in to find my char out back near the semi of the same WW in Talos. I just shrugged and went about my business, thinking "that was weird". This never happened to me before, either.

In the case of what happened to me on Sunday, I logged out by a mission door in one part of the zone and logged back in at a mission door way on the other side. That I can't explain except to say it was probably a bug.
I've seen this "logging in from a mission door" thing a lot. If I die in RV near a door to hat would havebeen a store, use the base to go back into RV, Then I come out of the door that I died near.
About a year ago, I remember logging in a character to find she was in the Crey building in Nerva; I was positive I hadn't logged out there because I didn't know where it was (the only reason I knew it was the Crey building is that I got the Day Job badge). It happened again a couple weeks later, and this time I chalked it up to being the default location it sends you if something's wrong with where you were when you logged out.
This tends to happen if you log out in an area with a spawn near by it seems and not just in cap but any zone the server will decide for what ever reason that doping you there would be bad so it drops you in a defaulted location every zone has this "if cant spawn at x spawn here" it seems.
I have had this happen so many times i just roll my eyes at it anymore, Remember that your toon actually drops "in game" before you have control over it i think that this code is to prevent spawn death that would make players rage. "note if you log out when dead it seems to bypass this effect(this has not been tested)YMMV"
There is but one truth. Time is limited. ndnw its over
