New Aura Preview

Whatever happened to this game being a journey and all that? Earning costumes etc is part of the game. Sounds like some people want an instant win button for costumes.

Ehm.. It still is as far as I'm concerned. I'm not asking for the auras to become available at level 'charactercreation'. I have no issues with them being tied to level 30 at all.

I'm just a little sad I'm missing a new aura.
Most of the other auras were around forever, something new is always seriously nice. No need for prereq changes though..

Ocho, quick question...

Why do the patch notes for tomorrow's patch say:

Quote:
Removed Firefly and Snow Auras which were not intended for Issue 18. They will be available as part of Issue 19.

Sounds like it ought to be tied to Ouroboros. "Letter: We've gotten word that (Snaptooth or other entity) is going to try to (screw with reality) via the (thematic supernatural phenomenon) that happens every (relevant holiday)! We've pinpointed (him/her) at (holiday, year), so hop to it!"

As an added bonus, it could get you the Entrusted badge, which I profess is to much of a hassle to get sometimes on low-pop servers where you can't just ask someone to drop a portal for you. A rare random-drop mission would slightly alleviate that for lowpop servers and not make much difference at all for highpop servers, and besides, I think it would be cool.

Costume pieces should not have to be earned on every freaking character, especially if you have to be lvl35+. As it is right now no unlockable costume piece actually exists to me because I can't put it on a character at creation.

So what happened to the sparks aura? Female widows had access to it on the Arachnos costume since i18 launch. I just checked the tailor a couple minutes ago, and they still have snow and the pre-release alpha/omega auras but no sparks anymore.

I really hope all of those auras become available in i19, and the pre-release alpha/omega auras should have been available with the current ones.

Because the Firefly and Snow Auras were not intended for Issue 18. They will be available as part of Issue 19.

When parts of the database show up where they should not be showing up, it can cause much bigger problems (like a character's DB becoming corrupted and unavailable).

Also, the auras were missing for the female model and the snow aura looked bad. It was unfinished work.

And, as the Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning previews have shown, that when something gets released early, people stop counting it as belonging to the Release it belongs to. You don't know the number of times people claimed GR was too light in content and those same people almost always forgot to include Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning as being part of GR.

Zombie, you must have missed this announcement by Ocho earlier in the thread:

Which linked to this announcement. I took that to mean that the auras, for those that have them, would be left in. The patch notes seem to indicate different.

Regarding the issue of "pre-releasing" content, I completely agree. The early release of Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning probably hurt Going Rogue more than helped. Bad marketing department, bad!

It looks like a few of our creations snuck out of the lab before they were properly ready, now we know exactly how Praetor Berry feels! The Snow and Fireflies auras were still in the process of development for the future, but after seeing your excited response to them, we've accelerated our schedule and decided that we will include them as part of the Issue 19 release. For those of you who have already started using the new auras…enjoy your new looks. As for the rest of you, Snow and Fireflies will be available when the next Issue launches!

Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.

What he probably meant by "For those of you who have already started using the new auras…enjoy your new looks," was that, like any other option removed from the costume creator, if its already on your character it will continue to be on it until you change your costume.

I concede to Shadow as I hadn't considered that they could remove the option from the game without removing it from those who were already using it.

Terminal Velocity, excellent use of large font, allow me to large font the part that had me confused.

There are plenty of other things to earn, like everything else in the entire game. Experience, inf, enhancements, recipes, salvage, badges, titles, levels, incarnate levels, souvenirs, etc. Cosmetics should not be among these, less you want to earn the right to use your Enter an Space keys when writing bios.

Sorry about the confusion, but yes they have been removed for everyone not already using them.

It's always hard walking the balance between being unduly verbose and expressing things in a manner that adequately conveys the intended meaning. Definitely a challenging part of the job, and I'll work on it!

No problem, I appreciate the clarification, thanks.

Yeah - with few exceptions, things removed from the costume creator are merely optioned out of the menus on the costume creator. Very rarely has there been outright removals.
