Katanas remind me of a joke I heard a couple of times in anime.

Protagonist: Don't worry I only hit you with the broad side of my sword.
Protagonist's ally: Uhh, sir. You do realize that it is a double-edged sword (or light sword depending on genre)?
Protagonist: Oops.
ok, that was from "slayers" zlegadis and amelia.

oh, and by the length and hilt shape, that looks more like a gladius. great thrusting weapon. i suppose he is going way back for the idealized roman legionaire that some suggest were the basis of the Arthurian legend.

(yep, sword nerd.)

But cutting through plate steel (or even 18 gauge chain) is not something it's going to do. Of if it somehow does, it WON'T be doing it again as the edge will look something like this afterward.
Agreed. If you look at the Katana vs. Longsword video, there was significant damage to the Katana at its tip. Whether the damage was caused before the video or not is not known and the metal armor seemed to be rather flexible compared to some of the more rigid armors so going through a few sets of full plate armor would destroy the blade.

The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.

Sounds like a serious medical condition. You should get your liver checked post-haste.

i'm fairly confident it's not trolling per se. More like attention-seeking behavior due to a desperate need to be the center of attention. Most of their posts i've seen aren't really trolling, just nearly pure nonsensical opinionated fluff chattering.

Terry Pratchett's sword, on the other hand, is awesome incarnate. i wish i could see it.

Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...

Looks like a light breastplate (think conquistadors), not full armor. Stuff that isn't really meant to turn a thrust with a sword, but will repel strikes by lighter blades and knives.
I'd like to see them take it up against a properly layered armor setup.

As to the damage to the sword, yep. Broke the edge right off. NOT something you're going to buff out with a whetstone (at least not in a reasonable amount of time).

Can we just go back to praising Sir Terence and His Sword Of Awesome (+10)? It's more like a classic Roman gladius than anything, which is a very versatile piece of kit, quite tough, and in terms of L-Space mythos resembles Carrot's very practical and boring sword (which, incidentally, slices through stone in a practical and boring manner.)

Is it time for the dance of joy yet?

Actually, I'm pretty sure he's quoting (or paraphrasing, too lazy to look) an infamous troll post on the subject.

Except that his posts here are full of grammatical and spelling errors, and in general written like a 12 year old would.

His other posts in other threads are articulate and 'normal', with actual real sentence structure and mostly proper capitalization.

And if the odds aren't exactly a million to one, you might need to make things a bit more challenging. No one ever says "It's a 250,000 to one chance, it just might work".
