Power Pools - Tier 5 Power
You've obviously given this a lot of thought and I applaud you. I really like your ideas and a lot of these powers I would really like to have. I also don't find any of them game-breaking, seeing as how you'd have to dedicate the extra power slots to get to the tier 5.
50 Claws/Regen Scrap, 50 Energy/Energy Blaster, 50 SS/Invuln Tanker, 50 Robot/Traps MasterMind, 50 Fire/Kin Controller, 50 Ninja/Ninja Stalker, 50 Elec/Shield Brute, 50 Elec/Time Controller
I like that Air Mastery a lot. Hover brings aerial combat and it would be cool if the 5th mastery gives you better range defense.
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
Some of those sound decent, while others sound just bad. The first one is largely redundant for most melee classes and would be useless. (unless we're talking pvp effects)
Regardless, I commend your creativity.

I love the idea. Since you'd have to spend a power choice to get these it really gives the thought of truly mastering that pool. If someone on a team had Inspire Confidence then people will love them! That would be really nice.
I also think that if Super Jump got Extraordinary Leap, then Teleport should get Dimension Rift. As not to step on each other's toes. And if Teleport did get Greater Teleport, then perhaps Super Jump could get a lightning rod-esque attack? You jump into the air and land in a group of enemies with great force, causing moderate damage and chance for knockdown.
I like the concept - it really appeals to me to have an additional power. Not sure if it should be another tier, though - it would probably end up being like the 5th powers in the Epic pools, an additional tier 2.
Still, some of these ideas have merit...
My suggested changes:
Fighting
- Mettle = Passive: a 10% boost to the characters HP.
Flight and Concealment both work.
Leaping
- Meteor Dive = Click: A teleport attack, with an animation of the character leaping upward, and then coming down at the target location. Does no damage, but does Knockdown (and maybe a Mag 2 stun?) to anything in a 15ft radius.
Presence
- Spirit Breaker = Click: A single target Damage and Recharge debuff. (At least, that's the best way I can figure to represent breaking an enemies fighting spirit...)
Medicine
- Booster Shot = Click: Single Ally +Regen, +Recovery buff. Also provides some protection from Regen and Recovery Debuffs. All effects last 60 seconds.
Speed
The idea is sound. Have it be a short durration (20 seconds at the most), and it onle affects Melee and Ranged positions.
Teleport
Bah! I don't think it would be game breaking to combine the two effects! And it would certainly make Teleporting more attractive to me...
Leadership
Put the Inspire Confidence buff here. I think it fits better...

Was running a task force one night and thought "I would like to see a tier 5 power for each power pool". Told teammates then I was asked what they would be.
So I gave it some thought. These powers wouldnt be available until lvl 26 or something. Maybe not til 30. I tried my best to make them balanced in regards to what they do. Some are meant for fun, some meant for usefulness, some for both. Fighting -Test of Endurance = Click: While Test of Endurance is active you gain limited protection from Stuns, Holds, Knockbacks, Sleep, Immobolize, Repel, and Teleport effects. (Was thinking Mag 2 or 3 Prot, not too much, but an amount that could help.) Flight -Air Mastery = Passive: Your control over the airflow created when you fly gives you increased chances of deflecting ranged attacks. Anytime you would be knocked back, your control of the air makes you land safely on your feat. Concealment -See Invisibility = Toggle: With this power active you can see through almost all forms of stealth. (Was thinking of Excluding Superior Invisibility and the Maelstrom Stealth.) Leaping -Extraordinary Leap = (Only available on Outside Maps) Choose a Location on the map and you do a running leap through several layers of atmosphere to the location you designate. Presence -Inspire Confidance = Click: Your presence inspires your teammates and increase their performance all around. +20% Damage +20% Accuracy, +5% Regen, +5% Recov, +5% Def, +5% Resist (All unenhanceable, And set to a time that could not be made perma) Medicine -From the Brink = Self Rez OR -Adrenaline Boost = Click: When you click this power you immediately regain 20% of your total health, and 10% of your total endurance and are protected from Endurance Drain, Regen Debuff, and Recovery Debuff for 1 minute. Speed -After Image = Passive: While you have Superspeed Active you move so fast it causes your enemies to think you aren't exactly where you appear, causing them to miss you more often.(This would take the form of a defense buff, unless its possible with current coding for a -ToHit debuff to be applied only when a power is used against YOU) Teleportation -Dimension Rift = Teleport to a zone of your choice that isn't restricted to you. OR -Greater Teleport = (Only Available on Outside Maps) Teleport to any marker on the map. (Would pop up a map and the player would click on the marker then teleport right to it. Leadership -Clarity of Mind: = Having your teammates around you, helps keep your mind clear from distraction and outside thought. Click: +1 Mag Protection From Fear and Confuse Per Teammate in Range, and +2% Psi Def per teammate in range. was thinking Range 15 ft. or maybe 20. OR -Maybe it lets you choose 1 of 5 Roles. The power would only affect you, and you can only have 1 Role power at a time. Not to be confused with having one active at a time. Once you pick one, you can't pick another until you respec. --Damage = Build Up Like Power --Buff = PowerBoost like power that affects buffs on the team. --Debuff = Powerboost like power that affects debuffs on baddies. --Shield = Taunt that grants you Mez resist because you are expecting the oncoming attack. --Lockdown = Powerboost Like power that affects Mez effects on baddies. Now I'm sure someone will find a way to break this somewhere and somehow, but how does it each one sound, and if you could have a tier 5 power for some pools. what would it be and do? |
Fighting-This one might need changed. You have it so that EVERY AT can get full out mezz protection. Probably won't fly too well with the devs. Since it gives you 2 of the main forms of protection (def and res), I think it would be more likely to be a +hp or +regen click, being that they are the other main types of protection. I doubt another attack would be used, as they are near pointless in 95% of pools.
Flight-Sounds like a +ranged def power to me. That whole landing on your feet thing though, how would that work? Sounds like changing KB into repel, but I don't think that works in the game's system. Can you clarify what you meant by that part? Sounds good other than that minor confusion.
Concealment-I like it. Anti invis, pretty cool. Just a +perception, and maybe add in something that negates def bonuses on enemies from just the stealth type powers. Not sure if the game can do that currently though.
Leaping-Sounds like the ex act same thing you wrote for the 2nd option for the TP power. Personally, I think if you are already on the map, the standard travel is enough. I would want a 5th power here to be a +dam type power. Picture the Eagles Claw and Eviscerate animations. They get their power partially from gravity pulling their attack down after a jump. This power would apply a similar concept, that by jumping around during combat, your melee attacks are being pulled down harder into your enemies. It would be similar to CJ in concept, being that your mobility is adding to your combat ability. Make it similar to CJ in affect too, with a smaller than normal endurance cost, and a small affect, maybe 5-10% differing for AT, like a mini, personalized assault.
Presence-I like it.
Medicine-I like the idea of both powers you put. Only problem is that a self heal is already in the set, and you can't use medicine on yourself if you are kocked out (self rez). Maybe a power similar to the recovery serum temp. Injecting yourself with some sort of stimulant and it will give you increased recovery for a period. I'm thinking something like +75% for 1 minute on a 4 minute timer.
Speed-I like it. Make it a +def power with a slight run speed boost, similar to sprint's run speed.
Teleport-The tp to another zone option sounds good. Longish recharge so it isn't unfair to no tp'ers.
Leadership-The first option seems a bit too strong, and the 2nd one is like adding 5 teir 5s but only letting us pick one per character. I would change this one to a power that lets you really lead the team. Make it a click that will grant all of your powers a small -res, -def, -dam, and -tohit defbuff, so that when people follow your lead and attack the same enemies you tell them to, the enemies go down faster and can't react to the coordinated attack as well. AoEs would get smaller debuffs added so that the team will actually have to coordinate attacks for the full benefit, but I'm thinking about a -10% to all 4 for ST attacks, and either 3 or 5% for AoEs.
Really good idea to add a 5th teir, I'm shocked that after the PPP/APP 5th power, the pools didn't get any.
Adding a fifth power to the power pools sounds like an excellent way to deal with a reduced number of power pools.
Your best bet for this EVER happening is using either existing or slightly modifying versions of already availible in game powers. it is just so much easier. I think the dev's are to busy finding ways for you not to use the nukes in Cityl and figuring out new emote packs to have people pay for to even think about something this cool.
more than likely, the fifth power for every set will be focused accuracy :-)
Better yet, take all the good toggle powers and make them clickies.
Thanks all for the positive feedback and posting your ideas as well. Especially the leaping one. It got me thinking. While I love Shield Charge and Lightning Rod, and the Idea for an attack similar where you leap into the air and land on the ground doing an AoE effect. I think i might have thought of a another Idea for the leaping pool. It would be a whole lot more fun than I think it would be useful, but thats why i like it so much.
Destructive Landing-Passive: When you land on the ground after leaping into the air, you create a localized tremor based on the height in which you fell from. (I'm assuming the system could track the peak height of a jump and then calculate distance to the ground.) To keep it from being extremely abusive the damage would have to be weak, but it would escalate with drop height and there could be a mag knockdown that escalates with it as well.
Of course the Jumping in air power that you activate and click your target reticle is also more controllable. But it is already in the game, and i'd like each of the powers to be more unique. But still completely acceptable in my opinion.
@magikwand, I'll admit it is redundant for most melee classes, but some classes are missing some of these mez protections, while others might just want more. And I don't see why it couldn't be used in PvP. I also only made it mez effects that I considered Physically affecting, storywise. The only other concept i had was for it to maybe be an escalating protection mag. You would have to build up to having the higher level mags.
@Shadowclone, You are right about The Leaping and Teleport t5's possibly stepping on each others toes. So in that case I think the teleport one would be Dimension Rift. Which is a power I would Love to see made. And I really want to see the Animation idea I had for the t5 Leaping set power.
@OneWhoBinds, I set them as Tier 5 to make it powers that made you feel like you really mastered the powerpool. I really like the idea for the Fighting Pool. Simple yet fits the concept of the pool, and its unique, and useful. Your idea for the leaping set seems a little 2 weak for my tastes. Feels like its hand clap with different animation. I think it should fit the appeal of being a tier 5 pool. I could see another way of breaking someone's spirit would be maybe a de-toggle effect. A power that de-toggles enemies would be awesome. The 20 second duration on the Speed one I dont like to much, But changing it so it only affects Ranged and Melee does make sense. And I could see Inspire Confidence being in either the presence or Leadership Pools.
@Pyro_Master, I didn't give mez protection to everything, but everything that i felt was a physically affecting mez effect. And while it is protection to alot of things, it is a weaker mag, and i wasnt planning on give mez resist with it, just the mag protection. How Air Mastery would work, i imagined that when you would be subject to a knockback or knockdown effect, you maybe do the backflip emote instead or a jump backwards style emote and land firmly on your feet. It could maybe be like a prepared self rez. You prepared the medicines needed, so that if you would be knocked unconscious you automatically become conscious. Or if the self rez doesn't make sense while you are dead. It could have a story that you modified your Hospital Teleport device to auto rez you if you die, which can only be used once every so often. It can only be used once every so often.
From the Brink = Through modification and/or preparation you can resuscitate yourself.
For the Adrenaline Boost, there is one that is self-heal, but I can't remember if it heals based off a percentage amount, or a set number that is modified by percentage from enhancements. But this one also grants a bonus to other things. Or it could be something that makes it impossible for you to be knocked unconscious for the duration, but doesn't heal you during it, so you stay at 1 hp until it expires or you are healed, it would give you a recovery bonus while in effect, and when its done it drains you of endurance only.
How do all of these sound?

What if all the travel tier 5's worked like mission teleport, but on a 5 minute timer?
I would love to see 5th powers, or even more so, new power pools. I've been dying for a PPD power pool for awhile.

Always nice to have some practical/functional powers. Give more depth to the game play; keeps the game a lot more interesting.
Some of them are waaaaay too good but that is what feedback and balancing is for. Overall I love the idea of having a fifth tier, but many of them are significantly better than primary/secondary powers. On the other hand, the T5 movement powers that teleport you to a place on an outside map are really just junk and should be replaced with something more useful compared to the rest.

De-toggling is an idea... but useless if fighting something without toggles.
Making the Multiple Images buff a Passive or a Toggle would again, be overpowered. Making it a short term Melee and Ranged defense Boost is more likely to be accepted.

Of course ... we'd probably be more likely to get something like the following --
Fighting - Headbutt: an attack, that does slightly more damage than Boxing, that stuns the attacker (100% chance unresistable) and the sometimes the defender (10% chance, resistible mag1)
Flight - Zone Flight: Like group flight but the whole zone gets in on the fun!
Concealment - Even mo' Invisible: like invisibility cept even mo'so.
Leaping: Group Leap: The whole team can now superjump as long as they are within 60 feet of the caster, if they stray out of the range, they immediately fall.
Presence: Placate: like the stalker power, only not as good.
Medicine: Self Rez: Follows the pattern Aid other - aid self - res other - ...
Speed: Group Speed: The whole team can now run supper fast, but this uses up lots of endurance. (and looks tacky)
Teleportation: Zone Teleport: Like Group Teleport, except now everyone in the Zone gets bounced around.
Leadership: meglomaniac: Click power that allows you to TAKE OVER THE WORLD (no in game effects, beyond some flashy lights and a noise remarkably like a kazoo)
I don't really like the idea of a Tier 5. A second tier 2 (like the APPs and PPPs have) would be fine with me.
Has this ideal for Concealment:
False Alert - Draws enemy's attention to the general area of your current location, without revealing your exact hiding spot. This often results in enemies moving toward you and/or wasting attacks on your assumed position, although area attacks may still create problems for you. (Mechanics: Drops an invisible pet in your current location. The pet has a Taunt aura with a radius of 20 ft. The pet lasts 5 seconds before vanishing. This power does not cause aggro.)
A friend and I were talking about this, and we thought that the Presence pool could also be a lack of presence, i.e. Placate. I can think of a lot of heroes (or villains) could find some use out of a placate. Also, this wouldn't over-power stalkers as they would have to pick two or three powers to get to this. Just for fun.

First, while the concept of 'Mastering' a pool is nice, and even ideal, I don't think the Devs would be willing to go to the work of adding a whole new tier to the Power Pools. Adding a second Tier 2 power is far more likely.

I'd love to see Flight get an Afterburner power- a toggle that lets you fly at x2 speed, but you can't turn. Maybe give it a cool Sonic Boom graphic.
I love the idea of a PBAoE Knockdown for Leaping. Feels like it should do that anyway, when you come in from a high jump.
I'd love to see Superspeed get a Z-axis movement effect. Maybe a Tier 5 auto power, so you can run up the sides of walls and buildings.
How about a Smoke Grenade style power for Concealment?
I like the idea of Placate for the Presence Pool.
