List of uber sets
I hate posts like this. There are lots of great combos across AT's and depending on how you play,what you play, and how the character is built they can all have a level of great effectiveness
The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

See, when you ask about what's "uber," it's such a broad scope that you won't get a straight answer, unsless those folks are limiting their discussion to odd outsiders like "what farms well" "or "What solos pylons."
For instance: my list of 'uber combos?'
Bots/FF/leadership/fighting/medicine/mace mastermind: an army of untouchable robots backed by a leader that can make the team just as untouchable. And anti-mezwith some health recovery to boot. On SO's it's as tough as a softcapped tank, with the bonus of team survival on aggro dispersion through pets.
Kin/Elec 'sapper' defender: drains stuff dry. seriously, he can make sure a giant monster puts out 0 damage indefinetly. That's right, 0. No end=no damage.
Mind/Psi dom: With enough recharge, it can shut down almost any enemy in the game, including archvillains. and against them, the -regen is there to make them die faster as well. Basically won't mow stuff down, but it makes sure no team has to worry about stuff.
Arch/energy blaster: death from afar. Seriously. Just taking the /energy boosts, this combo can hang in the back 'nuking' from snipe distance with ease. It doesn't need to get its hands dirty.
Crab/leadership/fighting Soldier: The illegitmate child of a tanker, blaster, and mastermind rolled into one. Three times more ranged AoE attacks than single target, group buffs/debuffs, armor, dull pain, mez protection, and pets. This one is amazing just for the bevy of things it does well with impunity.
Illusion/Empathy controller: No it won't kill your AV. No it won't solo a farm in record times. But it sure as heck will keep a team safe! Having distraction galore paired with the excellent team buffs makes this combo capable of making the team last through thick and thin, once it's matured.
Sure everyone is talking Uber as in damage dealers but......
Emp/Energy Def with full med and leadership pool. My GOD!! the massive green spamming and can raise the dead twice as often than a Noob Healor. Thats x2 veg bait there.
There's also the IO bonuses to consider. Some sets go straight to the top of the "uber" heap with the right build. Others don't.
Bots/Traps is certainly incredible with just SOs (and becomes MORE incredible with sets).
Ill/Rad has been mentioned a lot and is very good with SOs and becomes a different beast with a recharge intensive build.
Anything /SD makes a substantial leap when built well (with SOs, I think it's just ok).
I'll "ditto" putting VEATs on this list
I'll also submit Cold/Ice Defender, Earth/Fire/Pyre Dom and Fire/Kin Corr.
Global = Hedgefund (or some derivation thereof)
Masterminds annoy everybody, sooner or later. Heck, Masterminds annoy themselves.

Fire/Fire Blaster. Sorry, Fire/Fire/Fire. Stuff just melts. And it doesn't even matter if you die when you hit 47. Because then defeat has just become an extra step in the attack chain. They either die, or die after you hit them with Rise of the Phoenix.
So much fun, and I'm only just 32.

What have you found to be the "Uber sets"? Not just really cool, but the ones that are almost unfair? Firekin obviously makes the cut. I haven't finished my Ill/Rad, but I've seen them do awesome things. Just a fun thread to throw out what you guys have found to be the amazing sets. I've heard traps/sonic defenders can become AV soloers, anyone coroborate (misspelled?) this? So far, my favorite toon is the DM/SR scrapper. AoE is not the best, but he can survive any mob that decides to get in his face, and his single target damage is awesome. Great AV/EB/Boss fighter. Love it.

Precisely. Just started posting not long ago, and I got a little thread happy. Heh. Threw out a broad topic just to see where it went.
I like when people think a little outside the box of, "What can PL me?" or "What Brute is untouchable and does the most damage."
My votes go to:
I'll give my DM/SR a vote (a cliche answer, but meh, it's my main, get over it.) Survives everything but the occasional unlucky couple hits. Great single target damage for AV's. And once i19 comes out, I can fit fireball on there for some more AoE.
Mind/Energy Dom: Awesome. Mind powers only check psi defense, no melee/range/aoe. So I have more chance getting the most hits I can. And I've got her worked out so that I can soft cap for 15 seconds, and stay close to it for another 75 seconds after that. Confuse aoe's and lots of hold. And energy works well as a secondary. Got some good single target damage attacks, and power boost for my holds. Like it so far, love the mids, and hopefully will absolutely love the final build in a few days when she hits 50. (Updated note: The mind link/soft cap thing isn't working as well as I'd hoped. Gotta respec)
Just the concept, haven't levelled it: Fire/dark corr. Fire does awesome damage, with AoEs. Dark does just the opposite, it's all defense, so it complements very well. And the inherent powers can floor a mob's defense and recharge so you don't need actual defense set bonuses. I'm focusing on recharge. Recharge+Fire blasting AoE's= A heckuva lot of damage.
My favorite part of the Corr: Soul Storm. I haven't had it on a toon, just seen it used. I won't say it's the best power, best hold, best anything. But I will say that it looks awesome, and it's unique. I love Ghost Widow's hold, at least when it's not picking my granite up and curling him into the fetal.
So, if you want to know the purpose of the thread: There really isn't one, deal with it. The above builds work really well, have amazing results, can all solo well. And I even threw in the fact that I thought a particular power was just uber sexy because it looks awesome. I mean, isn't that alot of the reason we like the game? There may well be a more balanced and statistically logical game out there, with abilities and powers we would all be more happy with. But you know what? I like CoH, for this reason. Sometimes you just take a power, not because it will make you harder to kill, or increase your damage/xp per second, but just because it ROCKS
I'll toss in my support for VEATs, too. They can be amazing. My huntsman feels like a ranged Assualt Rifle/Super Reflexes/Bots/Soul Blastfendermind.

Ive made this thread before, the absolute two best builds were an ill/rad(or /storm) controller and a Bots/Traps MM....
Man, the more I think about it, the more I think Stalker gets screwed over for not having Shield set. Sure, the theme doesn't match but Elec/Shield on Stalker can be just as deadly. One of the toggles don't work that well? Modify it! Just like what they did for Willpower.

Based on the 50s I got:
Most powerfull (as in I can't believe its not nerfed) = Bots/Traps
Best all around for solo missions at (+0/x8) = Elec/Nin stalker
Best TF toon = Ill/Rad

Best for teaming = Crab, with the perma mind link fort a very close second
