For the last Freakin' Time! A list of Farmers...
Too bad those mindless "help me make a farmer" threads will pop up until the day this game goes under. They are the worst.
Words to the wise aren't necessary- it's the stupid ones that need them.
"You're right...I forgot...being constantly at or the near the damage cap is a big turn off. Definitely not worth it."
- Vitality
No love for claws. Spin+eviscerate rocks.
Be well, people of CoH.
1) This is your own subjective list as a couple people have made their own suggestions here.
2) They have to ask what the best farming build is if they want to build towards that from the start. They wouldn't know what's great when they just start.
3) They're just looking for a fotm build so maybe everybody should just tell them "whatever build you find best and most fun by playing will be the best farmer for you" so they will learn to play well and maybe figure out a new great farming build people haven't already though of.
Also, if you're sick of answering questions why do you stick around on the forums answering them?
I got a better idea. Dear brute forum goers.
When someone asks, "What is the best farm build?" just answer....
"ss/fire"
Nothing else. No elaboration, no build tips. Just ss/fire.
Spin/evicerate is pretty, though. I've used it on my night widow build against carnies when I tire of the flat out mob melting awesome that is my aoe-heavy fort build.
Weight training: Because you'll never hear someone lament "If only I were weaker, I could have saved them."
<shrug> My main farming map is council empire. My secondary doesn't have any kind of extra damage output and I tear through them just fine using followup, spin, eviscerate, repeat. I think the small radius on spin is less of an issue that people think.
Be well, people of CoH.
Agreed, for Example my Stone/Fire is since the changes faster in killing /x8 Spawns than my SS/Invul (Brute) and my FM/WP (Scrapper). I don't find that WP or Invul are good Farming-Secondaries if you try to max you Killspeed.
Mace/WP and use the weapon customization and change the mace to a rake and RP away
If we look at the Question: Who is the best farmer? There is only one answer for a Brute. Playstyle doesn't matter, preferences doesn't matter, how easy it's to play doesn't matter, how fun it is doesn't matter, how survivable it is doesn't matter...
only inf/h counts. And then the only answer is SS/Fire. It doesn't matter if SDs, ELECs or anything else can also be good farming toons. In most of the threads the question is not what are the 5 best combos for a farming toon, but "What is the best Brute for farming?". So no list is needed, it is as Candlestick says:
I for myself love my Stone/ more than my SS/, but i have to agree that inf/h-wise SS/Fire ist the more effective Brute. So, even if many PPL will not like the answer.....SS/Fire is the best farming Brute.
Sticky this

Best Farming Brutes in no particular order, except the first one: 1. Super Strength/Fiery Aura 2. Fire Melee/Fiery Aura 3. Electric Melee/Fiery Aura 4. Super Strength/Invulnerability 5. Fire Melee/Invulnerability 6. Electric Melee/Invulnerability 7. Super Strength/Electric Armor 8. Fire Melee/Electric Armor 9. Electric Melee/Electric Armor 10. Fire Melee/Shield Defense 11. Super Strength/Shield Defense 12. Electric Melee/Shield Defense 13. Super Strength/Willpower 14. Fire Melee/Willpower 15. Electric Melee/Willpower Build any of these brutes around a defensive based IO build, and your going to be a farming fiend. Now please for the sake of the forums, stop asking about the farming toons... It's very annoying... Unless your asking about a BUILD that you put together and would like critiquing on... Anyone else that has a few farming builds I can add to the list please reply. Again please sticky this to prevent people from asking about farming brutes... |
Justice is my Home!
Check out Mathematicians gone wonky in The Black Theorem (Arc 3608)!
I got an old school ss/stone brute. Finally pimped him out and made him a full fledged hero to run the Council Empire farm from Unai.
He runs at 27mph, has negated the -rech from granite with LOTGs and set bonusses up the *** and is pretty deadly.
I'm going to bring over my ss/sd and elec/sd brutes as well. They'll definitely outdamage the ss/stone but ss/stone at 27mph is fun.
Some of you all that replied didn't bother to read past the list... Way to go!
T_Immortalus - I was asking for suggestions to add to the list, way to go on jumping straight to criticism and not reading the WHOLE POST.
_Deth2_ - Yeah some people are stupid, and I didn't include */DA because I didn't even think about it when forming the list. Which, AGAIN, is why I asked for suggestions to add to the list!
I missed that as well, RA.
Please add claws/fire.
Be well, people of CoH.
What might be more efficient and informative, would be to take each primary and secondary from this list and construct a simple paragraph/half-paragraph consisting of exactly what key powers (or a statement that it's the entire set working in-concert) that makes it perform substantially better than other sets.. the things that set it apart, etc.
For instance:
Super Strength
In addition to having a viable form of mitigation baked into nearly every ability (Knock-down-, not up) you have access to two of the strongest abilities available to a Brute for their corresponding uses: Rage and Footstomp. With adequate recharge and endurance management, you're able to forgo most detriments to Rage's use (as well as easily stack it twice) and also pump out increasingly ridiculous damage (and again, mitigation) thanks to Footstomp and any other Epic AoEs you might have chosen.
Your To-Hit is top-notch, your mitigation from damage through your primary is solid enough to cover many potential holes in your secondary, your ability to buff your own damage is one of (is?) -the- best and, most importantly, your ability to kill large amounts of enemies is suitable, once you have Footstomp and preferably either enough recharge to keep pumping it out rapidly, or a back-up AoE to keep cycling in the interim.
.. Ok, so two paragraphs. But I'm not a guide-writer and most of you who've already posted are able to condense the primary benefits for any set for nearly any preferred use far more concisely than myself.

That's a good idea, really it is... But I lack one thing to get me to do that. Knowledge that the people begging to find out "what are the best farmers?" would actually read why they are the best farmers.

SS/Fire - Rage, Footstomp / Burning Aura, Consume, Burn, Fiery Embrace
.. I dunno, but yeah, if he's wanting an end-all post-it note stuck at the top of the thread to do everything it can to keep those posts from at least being as prolific as they have been, a little something to answer "Why?", even something quite simple, could cut down a notable percentage of inane posting.
This is essentially one of the problem with the game.. this past update SS/Fire is the toast of the types YAY! Wait what happned to Elec/SD.. oh ya forgot about that one, its down at #12 now. Not even top 10.
To me it makes the game so simple, cheep and boring. If you want to farm press button A and you get SS/Fire the soup de jour.
Looks like this to me:
New dude "what's the best farmer build?"
Crusty Vet "build a SS/Fire Brute"
New dude "that's it?"
Crusty Vet "ya just build that out and your're done"
New dude "what about the other powers and types?"
Crusty Vet "Crap! All of them..! Well you could make another type but why would you? You want the best one right?"
Well OH YA who doesn't want the best after all. And so there you are.. one choice is all you really have. So CoH fills the streets with more SS/Fire toons than any other type, cause it's the BEST. Hey man nice SS/Fire toon.. ya hey there like mines the exact same as yours.. wow cool.. ya its the best!
All the nerfing and boosting or fixing is really just so stupid. Oh I just dare someone to use build number 29 for farming. PPFFFF how dumb, who would pick that one. People just want the best.
Sorry I just think its kinda sad really that we have a list at all.

B: You're assuming everyone helping out new guys here have some agenda to push regarding "the best is the best" rather than "the best -of- the best."
Some of us -actually- prefer to simply narrow a list of options down for a player to help them avoid potential problems with a combo because the set, despite how attractive it may be, might not have the tools to do what the prospective player wants done.
Yes, one perspective is that we limit a player's options, but the other side of the spectrum is that.. we're not saying "do this and only this," we're saying: "These options here can work very well with what you have in mind, and here are the reasons why I believe that. As for what's 'best,' that's extremely personal, and we encourage you to branch out and find your preferred set."
We don't want to keep people from playing anything in particular, but we also don't want them bashing their heads against a brick wall trying to make something do something it's not mechanically inclined to perform.

NOTE: The general definition of a farming brute is one that can take on +2-+4/x8, and quickly dispatch all enemies, swiftly moving onto the next group. (Please note that it is not only Brutes that can do this, but many of the Archetypes, Blasters (AoE Based), Scrappers, Tankers, Corruptors, Dominators, and so on.
-------------- THIS IS NOT THE ONLY KIND OF FARMING IN THE GAME, THERE ARE FAR MORE EFFECTIVE WAYS TO GO ABOUT IT!
------Examples: Speed ITF, Speed Tip missions, running fast newspapers, running Oro missions, and so on.
------Quick Notes about Attack Sets-
Super Strength - Generally considered the best for a farming character, because of Footstomp and Rage. Footstomp provides incredible damage, and damage mitigation by the use of AoE knockdown, while Rage increases your tohit and damage output.
Fire Melee- There is nothing more sweet than a Damage Over Time AoE (personal opinion)! Fire Sword Circle does great damage on initial hit, and does great Damage Over Time following, most of the time.
Electric Melee - 2 Very wicked AoE's Thunder Strike and Lightning Rod. Both provide knockdown mitigation, and awesome damage.
Claws - Spin is a really great AoE, combined with Eviscerate and most of the enemies in your path will be dead.
Stone Melee - Someone fill me in... I added it because someone else said they farm with it...
---- Quick Notes on Armors:
Fiery Aura - Aka Damage boost armor. Fiery Embrace adds fire damage to each of your attacks. Burn, is a great AoE patch damage, now that fear has been removed from it. Consume restores your endurance, provides end recovery, and end drain resistance, along with additional damage.
Willpower - Great HP, Defense, Resistance, and Regeneration.
Invulnerability - Great resists, HP boost, and heal from Dull Pain. a big -tohit, and defence boost per mob.
Electric Armor - +Recharge, and a good End Discount/Heal/Regen booster from Energize.
Dark Armor - Best self heal in game (Dark Regeneration), tons of mob controls, I.E. Fears/stuns (tons for a brute!)
Shield Defense - Decent defenses, an HP boost, AoE damage, and knockdown for mitigation. Biggest plus to the set is the +DMG from against all odds.
