A film based on the Marvel superhero, Iron Fist, is now moving forward. Marvel Studios has hired screenwriter Rich Wilkes to pen the live-action film, reports Deadline. Iron Fist was one of the second-string heroes in the minds of fans, when Disney paid $4 billion for Marvel’s superhero library and promised to do something with some of the lesser known properties.

Iron Fist is a martial arts superhero with supernatural powers. Danny Rand was the son of a wealthy explorer and trained in the mystical arts at a fabled city in another dimensional realm. He gained the legendary power of the Iron Fist by defeating a dragon and plunging his fists into its heart. Rand gained the power to summon mystical energies turning his fists into indestructible weapons.

The comic book series was created in the 1970′s by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, when martial arts movies were very popular. Marvel tried to make an Iron Fist film with Artisan a decade ago, with actor and martial artist Ray Park (Star Wars, X-Men, G.I. Joe).

Screenwriter Rich Wilkes is credited for writing Vin Diesel’s film about an extreme sports hero, “xXx”. He also wrote The Dirt and Ballad of the Whiskey Robber.

Considering that Ray Park wanted this role a decade ago, I wonder if he's still going to be in this?

Isn't it going to be Ryan Reynolds?

Could be an entertaining blend of martial arts/crimefighting made on a relatively small budget that makes a reasonable pile of cash. Or it could be a $100 million, bloated, 3D CGI suckfest about nothing.

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

Ray Park has wanted this role forever. And I think he can act well enough now to possibly pull it off.

Oh. The guy who made xXx?

Best to give up hope now.

Maybe they'll bring Fraction or Brubaker on to consult. Maybe that will save it.

Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.

I believe he would be up for the part. I believe he has an iron clad contract with both Marvel and DC/WB to have first shot of any Superhero character coming out regardless of race, age and gender.

Seriously, I want to see Iron Fist and Luke Cage out the same year as two separate movies and the sequel is the two of them forming Heroes for Hire.

Terry Crewes as Luke Cage now more than ever after seeing the Expendables.

Iron Fist no clue, Jason Statham as Iron Fist maybe?

That'd be ironic, given that Danny Rand I think was English but was blonde and about 20....

Done right, Iron Fist could be such a cool movie. You've got a mystical city, some kick-*** martial arts fights, a good solid lead character, and so much backstory built into K'un L'un now that you could craft almost anything out of it. You really wouldn't even need to go too much into CGI and effects. Something for the dragon when Danny actually gets the Iron Fist, and a little for the effect when he uses it. But, beyond that, I think they'd be best served by keeping it grounded and realistic. Which of course means they'll try to make it into a bloated effects-laden CGI monstrosity that will suck *** and completely ruin the character. *cough* Ghost Rider *cough*

You cannot make Ghost Rider without CGI. There is no other way.

Marvel Studios. Nuff said. It'll be good. All the bad Marvel movies aren't done by their in-house studio, who's done all the good Marvel movies.

True, but they could have made it not suck, instead of thinking that cool visual effects would overshadow a crappy script and bad acting. Take some money out of the effects budget and channel it towards the writing budget. Amazing things will happen.

Nah, he's up for Deadpool. With Robert Rodriguez directing and the Zombieland guys writing. Or so goes the last rumors I read.

That may be, but I don't see them casting the same guy to play 2 different characters in their continuity...Yeah, he was Johnny Storm, but the FF movies were outside of Marvel Studios.
