Electric Control, what to pair with it
It's a real bacon-saver, to be sure. I wonder if it gets less useful in the higher levels as more of your teammates will uncork streams of AoEs, but I love it so far. My only complaint is that the graphics can be a bit seizure-inducing, especially if you have more than one Elec/.

And even if they do plow everything over with an AoE, it's still nice to drop at choke points such as doorways to keep ambushes and clusters of herded enemies in control. The sleep pulse is also really great for making enemy attack chains stutter.

But is the current build on there for mids including electric control or is there another download "fan database?" type link for it?
I just made an elec controller, (elec/kin) but I want to play around with some of the other things to couple to it instead..

Because Elec is can be a melee-centric character, */Kin is a good option. However, any pairing will work. I generally think of TA as a ranged set, but you can play it melee. Storm is always fun, but Storm has a lot of powers that will conflict with your controls -- it will be a challenge to make an Elec/Storm effective, but with the right strategy, you can do it. Cold, Therm, Emp, FF and Sonic can add a lot to any team, and let you buff teammates before the fight.

Enough? You can never have enough! (Looks at his stable of 2 Ill/Rads, 2 Fire/Rads, Plant/Rad, Earth/Rad, plus low level Ice/Rad and my new Elec/Rad.)

I'm playing an Elec/Cold Dom at the mo, and I actually like the rhythm to it. I'm not normally a fan of the buff/rebuff/rebuff/ad nausiem pattern, but the nice thing about ice is you tend to all your secondary work between battles. That leaves your attention free to rock the primary during battle.
I've never had much affection for playing Kins, in trollers or doms, because the set has too much you can do in mid-battle. Heals, siphons, more heals, refresh speedboost, ugh. It's just too distracting for me.

I am really disappointed a Controller cant use Pain. I mean come on... We get the choice between Kin,Rad,Thermal for healer support....Rad so far seems superior over all. Kin seemed nice but like you just pointed out the more I mull over it...i see its a lot of tedious work with the skills in the line up.
Thanks...I am going to delete and reroll this new controller for Electric/Rad ....Would love Electric/Pain so much more but oh well.
Last week, a buddy of mine and I were duoing my Elec/Rad controller and his Elec/Elec Dominator . . . at level 13. He was actually herding up ghouls into a group, and then I would hit the entire group with Static Field. Beddy-bye time for the entire group. We both walked in with Conductive running and hit them with Fences, waited a sec for all the endurance to drain, and then hit a steady stream of Fences and Jolting Chain while he used his attacks to take them down one by one. With just a little bit of Recharge, Static Field was up just about as fast as it expired.
We were both amazed at how effective this was. Killing speed wasn't all that fast, but we came out of killing a huge group of foes with full health and endurance . . . at level 13. That convinced me how effective this combo can be. |
/gignore @username is the best feature of this game. It's also probably the least used feature.
Can't get enough Hazy? /chanjoin robo's lounge today!
I was on a Praet team with 3 elect controllers and 1 elec dom. We could pretty much sap any and all mobs in a second or two. We had a full team, and no one's green or blue bars much more than trembled.
The downside is we had pathetic damage, and it took forever to chop through all those mobs .
The other downside is with all our customized EC powers throbbing away, my screen looked like someone vomited Fruity Pebbles on it. LSD doesnt even come close.

That's what I was afraid of... I finally rolled an electric/Kin ...now i didn't go Rad because I already made a Earth/Rad....now I am beginning to think just stick with rad if I want to heal and help end.

Let me start by saying hello and this is my first post. I currently have my elec/rad up to 33 and I honestly can't imagine a better synergy!!! Static field works great. I ran last night with a 22 tank at +0 x8 and I think I lost a gremlin in a total of three mishes. Other than that we were fine. Currently I skipped stam and haven't needed it and I am currently running 2 leadership toggles. Though I'm dissapointed with leadership and will probably pick up stam and add fighting. With my current build idea I will be skipping epic powers however but that is solely based on how hard I can get the gremlins to hit. Once I figure out how to post a build I will run some numbers through mids and post one. Solely due to lack of damage I don't see much solo potential, but paired with say a scrapper the partnership has the potential to tear through mobs.
Welcome to the forums, DWRECK!

Controllers have pain already. It is called Empathy. Pain Dom was created to give villains access to empathy.

It's true the sets have about 60% overlap. However Pain Dom is both different from Empathy in many ways, and similar to another set, Thermal Radiation, in many others.
Here is the rundown of basic overlaps:
Nullify Pain <> Warmth <> Healing Aura
Soothe <> Cauterize <> Heal Other
Conduit of Pain <> Rise of the Phoenix <> Resurrect
Enforced Morale <> Thaw <> Clear Mind
Share Pain <> [none] <> Absorb Pain
Anguishing Cry <> Melt Armor <> [none]
Painbringer <> [none] <> Adrenalin Boost
In terms of play style, Empathy and Thermal both have a "rolling buff" on 60 second Recharge (Forge and Fortitude) that Pain Dom lacks. The nature of this buff has these sets constantly searching for a friendly target to buff during the middle of combat. This significantly affects the way these sets are played.
Pain and Thermal both have "selfish rezzes" that differ from Empathy in that they double as either an attack or a buff.
Pain Dom has a PBAoE toggle heal that is not duplicated by any other powerset in the game, to my knowledge. Empathy meanwhile has two PBAoE aura on long (agonizing!) recharge, 500 seconds, and not possible (or at least very, very difficult) to make perma. Pain Dom's unique power World of Pain is similar-ish, but has less than half the recharge, and the effects are almost like an AoE version of Thermal's powers Forge and Thermal Shield.
Anyway, I see no reason to continue to prevent the proliferation of Pain Domination. Of the available sets that are remaining, it is probably the easiest and most straight forward available to make the transition.
Hmm. Now that there are Controller villains I think (hope) this argument is a wash. Empathy and Pain Dom are not the same.

Yes you can perma empathys buffs insanely easier then with pain. 2 empathy defenders together buffing each other will make your jaw drop. Yes I love Pain dom, love it alot, but almost all the powers pain has are a modified version of empathy, my favorite being the regen toggle MMs get. But you have to realize something if they port Pain to Control/Defend then they will have to port Empathy to Corr/MM and well Pain works better then Empathy would for the villians.
The only way I would like to see controllers getting Pain is if MMs get Kin. Which we know will never happen, I can't see one set that would break the game more then Kin would on a MM. But I want to have Kin on MM so bad tehehe.

Edit: someone should make a trio with a SG name of American Power and rock the red white and blue auras.

Controllers have pain already. It is called Empathy. Pain Dom was created to give villains access to empathy. And Empathy might actually work insanely good. Elec/Rad is tons of fun. The only reason I didn't make a Elec/Kin, which I did in beta, cause I found that Electric Control recharges fairly fast already almost all kins recharge bonus goes to waste not saying Kin is only good for that but it makes long recharge sets shine.

My main turn off was the beneficial aura Regen seemed to not be a skill that you can toggle on....like pains version which is always on.
here is Empathy Regen description for those who don't know:
The Regeneration Aura dramatically increases the healing rate of all nearby heroes for a limited time.
Wouldnt an obvious choice be Elec / Storm? Storm is also has a heavy end melee toggle with Hurricane and it sort of fits with all the Electrical parts of storm too.
Except you want to keep the enemies around you to gain the +rec +regen, so unless you have a dead end to push them into, it could be counter productive.

elec/therm/mu for me
I saw some differences in how Emp worked over pain...since I have not tried Emp I am just going by the description of the skills I read.

Yeah awhile back I studied out every detail of empathy and pain and how it would work with each AT, well control/defender/MM/Corr.
I will say one thing if you want to see a amazing thing join a team of, be one of, 2 empathy defenders. If they use there powers on each other first they have enough recharge to buff the whole team and themselves over and over and over again. Search out the Topic where someone tested that out.
Well back to on topic. Electric Control is so useful and well rounded that it works with any secondary. Some shine more then others but I don't think there has been a primary for controllers that has been so good. It doesn't depend on any secondary and any secondary can make it shine, is it the most powerful Primary not even close but the Devs did a really good job on it.
Elec control is one of those control sets in which you actually have to know what you are doing as well so to some who try it out first it can seem weak but it's rather awesome! I just Wish ti worked well with storm...*SIGH*

Well that does say one thing for Elec Control. It will make you hate Energy Blast and wreckless Storm Summoners all over again.
Yeah that is true but I belong to the group that says KB is a form of control and if you KB it you deal with it. If you keep KBing it it ain't going to attack me. That and the fact that static field pulses so even if the get KBed when the run back in they go back to sleep.
Trust me those arn't the only sets that get flack about KB. Ugg my claws scrapper. I am not going to not use my best power cause you keep whining about KB it ain't hurting you so shut it. After that I got kicked alot that or they understood. Actualy storm shouldn't hurt that much just remember to kite your mobs well and KB them into a corner, I actualy love a well played storm cause the mobs can't do jack for a very long time.
An easy majority of the time the presence of KB dramatically reduces the effectiveness of everybody on the team. On almost every team I have joined by telling the KBer to stop doing so our kill speed went up noticably.
Many power sets rely on area effect.
Electric Control is just one of them with Static Field, Conductive Aura and the Chains.
Radiation Emission has two anchored AoE debuffs, I assure you, you are slowing down the team by knocking the anchors away or knocking enemies en-mass out of thier effect.
There are numerous ground fields that dramatically affect the ease of defeating enemies: Quicksand, Earthquake, Tar Patch, Ice Slick, Freezing Rain, Sleet, Caltrops, Oil Slick Arrow and I'm probably missing a few.
Everybody loves Fire Blasters, I know I do, but a fire blaster loses a lot of effectiveness when half the enemy pack is knocked away. Fire Blasters are far from the only AoE attackers too.
Knockback is simply put the worst kind of damage mitigation. It extends the life of enemies far more than it extends the life of the player team.
It was really thoughtful of the Devs to make the damage for the AoE Immob all up front damage rather than DoT, since the DoT would wake them up on the sleep patch for every tick of damage. Instead, they wake up when the power is applied, and then go back to sleep again. Furthermore, since the Aura does no damage, it does not wake up the foes, so you can drain their endurance while they stand there snoozing.
I have found Static Field to be one of the better AoE control powers in the game.
We were both amazed at how effective this was. Killing speed wasn't all that fast, but we came out of killing a huge group of foes with full health and endurance . . . at level 13. That convinced me how effective this combo can be.
