Crab Backpacks and hero side.

Quick question: does the large Arachnos symbol on the back of crab backpacks go away when we switch to pure hero?

If not: when can we expect it to.

No it doesn't. There's no plans at the moment to remove it, either. The most likely scenario is that the costume team may add in a version of the pack without the symbol, for those that want the option.

The Abrams is one of the most effective war machines on the planet. - R. Lee Ermy.

Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?

A: You crash into another one.

Don't need to. I would assume that any hero is repentant of their time with Arachnos, but ever heard the phrase "Gone, but not forgotten"?

A lot of heroes purposely keep negative mementos on their person for one reason or another. In Nolan's Batman, Bruce Wayne is scared of bats and uses the emblem of Batman to help him focus on the concept of fear and bringing it to his opponents. Superboy's colors are a call-back to his emergence during the "Death of Superman" series. On and forth.

I'd say an Arachnos symbol could mean any of the following (for RP reasons):
  • A sign to others that anyone can change and repent.
  • Intimidation (I'm the best of the worst and your now your worst nightmare)
  • A scarlet letter (The other heroes make him wear it to represent past sins)
  • He just really liked spiders after that.
  • A disguise to help him earn the trust of those too wicked to repent.
  • It's not a symbol, per se. The vital components to the backpack are shaped like that and you can't change it without breaking the entire thing.

Or add your own.

"Wait, you mean this thing grafted onto my back, by way of my spinal cord, this giant metallic box of gears and circuits. Has a lousy spider sticker on it?"

"Really?"

"I mean.... They're giant spider legs for petes sake..."

**Tries to see it, stretching and twisting, moving the arms out of the way.**

"No wonder everyone laughs when I go in the D now..."

I can't not read that in Henchman 21's voice.

Not liking the filthy crabspiders and Arachnos Agents with Arachnos pets around my Talos Island, not good for the immersion. Oh well

Don't worry I'll help you fight them as soon as my new Zombie summoning Necromancer makes 20.

Repentant villains are bad for your immersion? Explain, would you kindly?

I actually don't mind Zombies, or Demons for that matter. It is just the constant shoving of Arachnos down our throats that I despise. It is even worse then Longbow. I know a lot of 'Soldiers of Arachnos' would love to shed their Arachno-roots, and I would support them in this endeavour, even if it just gives them more options.

Repentent villains who still run around waving the flag of Arachnos (they don't even get a choice) are not really that repentant in my eyes. More like an invasion from Faultline that somebody failed to notice.

I had an idea for a PPD themed Crab, the only thing in the way is the Arachnos symbol. Stolen technology ect, I just figured the PPD would scrape the logo off before deploying it into the city. Options are good, there's no reason they couldn't make a backpack without a symbol.

It just shows that Arachnos was too short-sighted to put in remote-control detonators into the crabpack design, should they go rogue and need to be put down?

Or paranoia that if installed, someone would hack into it? "I'm in ur radioz, killin ur doodz."

Did you read my list of suggestions above? They may help.

"Why doesn't anyone tell me these things!"

Egads, I can hear my 21-inspired crab saying that too.

With gallons of due respect, an Arachnos soldier's origin is very explicitly detailed in the Archetype description. This is unlike Stalkers (generic hiding villains) or Blasters (generic power houses).

If you have a specific concept that defies what is laid out on the character creation screen, I'm sorry to say that's on you.

Sorry Marcian, I am far too stubborn and my dislike for all things Arachnos is far too deep. ;-)

The suggestions are ok, but maybe its just me, but I find the explanations a bit far-fetched. We all have our own opinions I guess. Personally I think I would rather just not make the character then run around with the Arachnos logo branded on.

Lets not even get started on the implications of widespread PPP's. Arachnos is taking over the world, slowly but surely.

You have perfectly outlined the flaws with both sets of epic archtypes, and why I have never been interested in any of them. ;-)

My crab should hit full-on hero tonight. The alignment and morality missions have been just fantastic. It's been very exciting, exactly the way I've RPd the character for years, and he'll see you on Peregrine Island.

As for the Arachnos logo...it stays for now. It means an awful lot, and right now...it's both badge of honor AND scarlet letter.

Hah, my Night Widow is proud of her heritage and I rarely use her non-Arachnos costumes, so now you'll have to see a full blown Night Widow in official Archnos uniform running all over Paragon City.

....In fact, I may bring a VEAT over to Paragon for the express purpose of watching heads explode... .great idea

It's good method RP. Everyone in Paragon City is so used to beating on Arachnos, you really don't feel safe walking around in public.

With any luck my Fort/Widow will be blue-side this evening as a rogue.

I assume the heroes might make a comment or two. Until they get Mind Linked.
See? Crime DOES pay!

She won't be in her Arachnos garb though, a visit to Serge for a new cossie will be the first thing she does to celebrate.

My Widow is a full blown hero and she walks around in her full uniform. I actually enjoy the juxtaposition of this symbol of villainy working in the service of good.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

I am in the process now of bringing Arachnos PR Agent back to Paragon. I rerolled him from a scrapper to a VEAT for GR. 3 more tips to hero!
