George Clooney and Angelina Jolie are planning to star as Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe in an adaptation of the upcoming novel, The Life and Opinions of Maf the Dog, and of His Friend, Marilyn Monroe, reports The Times.

The book, by Andrew O'Hagan and set for release this December, serves as a biopic of Monroe, told through the eyes of her Scottish maltese poodle, Mafia Honey (nicknamed Maf), given to her as a present by Sinatra.

O'Hagan announced the news at the Edinburgh International Book Festival. It is unknown if a director is currently attached.

You have GOT to be kidding me? These two performers look NOTHING like the people they are suppose to be imitating. I mean... shouldn't they at least resemble them somewhat if they are going to play them on screen?

Though...I could see Clooney as Dean Martin.

I really like Angelina Jolie's acting but I don't see her as Monroe. Perhaps they will prove me wrong.

Clooney would make a great Sinatra. he has the charisma and acting chops to get it done.

Jolie as Monroe is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard.
Might as well ask a praying mantis to be a teddy bear.

Hey, hey, hey! Watch it, bub! Angie puts stars in my eyes.

I'd prefer in the future you write it as "ask a tiger to be a teddy bear" as a nod to her role in Kung Fu Panda.

This movie is told through the life of Monroe's poodle and you complain the casting is suspect!?

Dear God, I thought the premise of Battleship was stupid this takes the cake!

Did they say if it was animated? This feels like it could be an animated flick....
In which case, the choice of actor can be excusable as modern-day 'models' for scanning into 3D and alteration. Like Jolie was in Beowulf.

Well, there was a time within the last few months I remember seeing where people wanted Jamie Foxx to play Sinatra.....

Maybe it's just me, but Clooney looks a little more like Sinatra than Foxx does.

I'm going to agree with the Goat on this one. I'm not a big fan of Jolie, and she really does not exude Monroe.

Also, 'acting' does often include more than 'looking like a person.'

Interesting idea for a flick, especially if they stick with the "told through the dog's eyes" angle.

Of course! That's it! Clooney and Jolie look the parts from the knees down.

I'd like Phil Hartman to come back and play Sinatra.

I'd just like him to come back or never be gone in the first place.

One of the worst losses to comedy, acting, and the world in a long time. Still feels like a fresh wound.

I like what they said about Hartman's impersonation of Sinatra: He was horrible at impersonating the actual person, but was great at impersonating and lampooning Sinatra's image.
