after 4 years... which guy to play?
Considering you haven't played in four years, I would start over with a new character and do the tutorial.
Personally, I would pick a scrapper. Probably a Willpower as it isn't too clicky.
Welcome back we missed you... wait I wasn't even here 4 years ago.
Anyway welcome back! A lot new things came out in the last 4 years so might want to just start at the beginning and get back into the flow. Besides Altitus is catching and fun!
Guess you can see my guys in the sig... forgot about that lol. Im sure my two scrappers can still fit in somewhere, damage is damage. But what about my controller, Ive been reading through all the forums the last two days trying to get caught up on things, and ice/storm doesnt seem to be really mentioned. Is a pure controller used anymore?
Edit: Also, thanks for the advise on starting over, i think ill be doing that just to get back in the swing of things then hit up one of my lvled guys again.
I'd make a new toon in Praetoria starting on Tuesday. There'll be tons of people so lots of chance to do whatever.
As for what to play......that depends on your playstyle honestly.
Scrappers are easy because you just find things and beat them down without concern for aggro management or whatever.
"pure controllers" I assume you mean a controller who isn't trying to do damage along with their mez/debuff(buff). Yeah sure controls plus debuffs are always welcome unless you've run into a really bad group. Some controllers do massive damage too but honestly I find those combos often lousy on teams because the players don't worry about the team and think they're farming.
Have fun and find something you enjoy.....its still basically the same game underneath though inventions (i9) did change the power balance between players and the npcs alot.

I would echo the same advice to just start over. If you just want to level something just for the sake of getting it to 50 (no real point since super sidekicking can give you access to all but a few level locked and zone locked content), just pick either of the two scrappers. Ice/storm is viable, but that's really more of a team build and will level more slowly than your scrappers.
For ease of play with what you have, I would say use the spines/regen scrapper.
Get used to the game again with a toon that can kick a lot of butt without too much in the way of endurance issues. Then toy with other ideas.

When it comes time to start a new character, after you've got your feet wet again, realize that you can now email stuff to yourself at your global name. So you can even start over on new servers and send yourself starter cash, or a rare IO or both. You're not glued to one server anymore, even as a start.

You mention people being pissed back in the day that you couldn't heal......well its gone to the other extreme now probably....healers are out of vogue and buffs/debuffs are de rigeur. You were just ahead of your time. Now storm has that hurricane kb thing.....so make sure to practice not spreading the mob out with it cause massive focused AoE damage is what teams really like now too. Just herd them into a corner or something and hurricane is really useful.
Since you've been gone for 4 years I'm going to assume you don't have any idea about the Invention system so I highly recommend doing the in game tutorial for it as well as reading some guides on it.
Yeah i did the ingame tutorial i think... but still rather lost. Good to know there are some guides out there for it.
There are several guides to the Invention system in the market forum as well as guides to make money so you can slot whatever you want.
Are IO's inventions?
Yes. Invention Origin (IO) enhancements. "Inventions" is oftne used to describe the entire crafting system (recipes, Invention Salvage, Invention Origin enhanvements and Invention Sets). It gets a bit complex.

A warning, don't try to learn the whole IO system from the guides all at once. Concentrate on a few things at a time, specifically things that relate to the main characters you want to use it with. Learning the whole system from the guides (while helpful) will be a lot of slogging through a ridiculously massive amount of stuff and it's easily overwhelming. Learn some stuff, then put it into practice. It's easier to learn it by doing, even though you need a bit of knowledge even for that.
Dec out.
Wait all your toons are in their mid 30's. I say start over and go Peacebringer. Use build 1 as Human only form, use your second build as a shapeshifter. Voids/Q's aren't a real problem anymore, and you get that nifty fly at start

For what it's worth (and to each his own), but after trying all the ATs and nearly all the powerset combos over the years, my ALL-TIME FAVORITE hero is an Illusion/Storm Controller.
Another player referred to it as "Chaos in a Can".
Pop the top and WHOOOOSH stand back!
It will challenge your situational, strategic, and tactical skills to the limit, but is wildly powerful if used correctly, and just incredibly fun to play.
Hello,
I decided to give this game a shot again. Didnt even know GR was coming out, but nice to see that it is! I havet played in a little over 4 years. I have 3 guys in their mid to low 30's:
a spines/Regen scrapper, DM/MA scrapper and a ice/storm controller. Are any of these guys still viable? Where do you suggest I start with them. I barely remember how to even play the game, so starting over with a new guy is an option too I suppose.
Thanks!
