Mastermind Primaries
Midnighters have living armor. So it's doable.
We acctually have three modern-themed sets:
Thugs
Mercinaries
Robotics
One anchient:
Ninjas
And two "wildcards":
Zombies
Demons
Out of those, three are natural, two are magic, and one is tech. We have no science or mutation. I don't care what you are RPing, the sets were designed under certain theme regardless.
I think the best course of action is not to make a certain time-period based set, but a differan origin-based set. In which case, I vote "Beastmen" as a powerset. It easily fits in as mutation and science, even magic if you want to go the tribal route.
The off-beat space pirate...Capt. Stormrider (50+3 Elec/Storm Science Corruptor)
The mysterious Djinn...Emerald Dervish (50+1 DB/DA Magic Stalker)
The psychotic inventor...Dollmaster (50 Bot/FF Tech Mastermind)
Virtue Forever.
I'd also like female minion models, but I know that's not going to happen, because, for some reason, they think that females can be used offensively while males can't
which is somewhat offensive in and of itself

I'd be interested in seeing Barbarians, but the rest sound too similar to what we already have. What I think is truly criminal is the lack of Pirate MMs. And the fact that Ninjas have been essentially broken since CoV launch.

Just give us some Amazonians.
Tier 1 pets: Spear-wielders (would require new animations, I know)
Tier 2 pets: Archers
Tier 3 pet: Broadsword-wielding Scrapper

Any time there a thread about mastermind primary ideas, I will always put in my best idea: (A rough idea)
Battle Servants: They make you tea, keep your lair tidy, AND NOW crush your enemies! What's NOT to love? The best part is, servants, on their own, may have a tough time holding up a household, but they work well together and get stronger the more of them you have out. Each Battle Servant can bring their own thing to the playing field to great effect, further more, you can harness your own ability to shout yourself hoarse calling for these servants from all around your manor or berating them for a mess they left.
Shriek (sonic blast)
Tier 1: Call Kitchen Staff
You can summon up to three cooks, they're as skilled with their knives in battle as they are in preparing food. The third Cook you summon will be a Butcher, specializing in in powerful, prime cuts to both enemies and meats alike. (Just make sure they never mix up the fighting knives with the food knives)
Base powers-
Knife Slice, Throw Knife, +Regeneration (Aura for Pets)
Butcher: Slash, Hack, +Damage (Aura for Pets)
Equip powers-
(The single knife is replaced with dual blades) Nimble Slash, Power Slice, Throw Knives (cone of knives) Sandwich (Uses the Heal Other animation, but instead of a tricorder, its a sandwich and does not shoot a green, healing laser)
Butcher: Build Up, Slice
Upgrade powers-
Vengeful Slice, One Thousand Cuts, Tea (Mechanically stimulate, but with tea and no green lasers)
Butcher: Disembowel, Head Splitter
Shout (Sonic blast)
Raise Servants:
By giving your servants an increase payroll, more benefits, and more tools to do their job, they hold back more of their snarky, one-liners and do more of their work!
Shockwave (Sonic blast)
Tier 2: Call the Butler/Maid
The Butler and Maid are highly skilled servants adept at many tasks and able to adapt to any new ones you throw at them, like doubling their duties as bodyguards. You will call one Butler and the second one you call shall be a Maid, both have their own fighting styles but make a seamless pair and are highly implacable and focused
Base Powers-
Butler: Poison Dart, Thunder Kick, +Res (KB, Immob, Confuse) (aura for pets)
Maid: Pistols, Dual Wield, +Res (Hold, Stun, Fear) (Aurea for Pets)
Equip Powers-
Butler: Storm Kick, Dragon's Tail
Maid: Empty clips, Executioner's Shot
Upgrade Powers:
Butler: Crane Kick, Cobra Strike
Maid: Piercing Rounds, Hail of Bullets
Great Expectations:
By promising your servants a place in your will, for a brief period they will really give their all, either to prove themselves as worthy of more of the inheritance or because they fear you're going to die and want to prevent it or make your last days your best for a short time until they realize you're not going anywhere for a while. They will likely be frustrated and need time to cool off their anger.
Targetted Ally AoE: +Special (Buffs, Debuffs, Heals), +Res (All Mez), +Damage, Dismissal of all servants after 90s.
Tier 3: Call the Groundskeeper
The Groundskeeper is a fellow with good knowledge on all manner of exotic plant life and the skill to precisely, artistically manifest these visions into reality and the skill to maneuver around existing works to maintain them or add new things. Her shouts of "Don't step on the grass!" also helps them guide other servants around both enemies and her garden work alike.
Base powers: Entangle, +Def (Aura for pets), +Acc (Aura for Pets)
Equip powers: Roots, Spore Burst
Upgrade Powers: Seeds of Confusion, Carrion Creepers

"Battle Servants' reminds me of how much I would love to RP somebody's butler. Because the hero's butler is invariably a totaly badass engine of destruction concealed within an elderly English man.
The off-beat space pirate...Capt. Stormrider (50+3 Elec/Storm Science Corruptor)
The mysterious Djinn...Emerald Dervish (50+1 DB/DA Magic Stalker)
The psychotic inventor...Dollmaster (50 Bot/FF Tech Mastermind)
Virtue Forever.
I'd personally love an MM primary like the Carnival of Shadows. 3 fencers for Lethal/Psi damage, 2 Senchals for some Fire damage, and an Illusionist.
"the reason there are so many sarcastic pvpers is we already had a better version of pvp taken away from us to appease bad players. Back then we chuckled at how bad players came here and whined. If we knew that was the actual voice devs would listen to instead of informed, educated players we probably would have been bigger dicks back then." -ConFlict
Barbarians would be great!
Tier 1
Battleaxe/Shield.
Default: Brawl, Swift, Beheader, Phalanx Fighting
1st Upgrade: Gash, True Grit
2nd Upgrade: Pendulum
Warmace/Shield.
Default: Brawl, Swift, Bash, Phalanx Fighting
1st Upgrade: Jawbreaker, True Grit
2nd Upgrade: Crowd Control
Crossbow(Archery)/SR.
Default: Brawl, Snap Shot
1st Upgrade: Aimed Shot, Quickness
2nd Upgrade: Blazing Arrow(Bolt?), Focused Senses (Ranged defense)
Tier 2
Broadsword/Shield x2.
Default: Brawl, Swift, Slash, Phalanx Fighting, Throwing Axe (higher damage Throwing Knives origin power)
1st Upgrade: Hack, Slice, True Grit, Deflection, Parry
2nd Upgrade: Head Splitter, Grant Cover or Against All Odds, Health
Tier 3
Super Strength/Shield
Default: Brawl, Swift, Jab, Punch, Phalanx Fighting, Throwing Axe
1st Upgrade: Haymaker, Deflection, True Grit, Health
2nd Upgrade: Knockout Blow, Shield Charge, Stamina
Level 18 power would be a pet Rage buff, same recharge/duration, high (20-40) end cost. Attacks can be Aimed Shot from a crossbow, then Hack and Parry of Broadsword (seeing as Demon Summoning introduced the idea of melee attacks in the MM set, and Zombies the personal buff, or well.. Heal).
I am the Blaster, I have filled the role of Tank, Controller and Defender
Sometimes all at once.
Union EU player! Pip pip, tally ho, top hats and tea etc etc
Battle Servants.. based on the descriptions that would be a set i'd like to see added to the game.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Females and barbarians sounds cool. I think we need something totally new like aliens. Not riktis but good old fashion big head aliens with rayguns and cattle mutilators.

I would like the option of having living ancient warriors that are not, you know, ninja.
As much as I like ninja, it is not the only thing I would like to have. Samurai Barbarians Knights Heck, just a handful would also be nice to have undead that weren't rotting/disgusting Ghosts in addition, since it's possible to get heroic masterminds, perhaps Angels but the big one is the medieval warriors We have two modern sets: thugs and soldiers But only one ancient: ninja and swordswinging suits of armor, magically animated or actual people, are just as often in superhero comics |
I've still got my fingers crossed for critter customization on MMs. Yes, you would have idiots and children making Sly McPimpin and his Ho Brigade, but then you do to them what you do to any moron who decides to make a toon named "Kamel Tow" or "Mike Awk" and you either Generic them to square one or delete the character. I see pimp characters anyway, especially since the magic set came out with the snazzy top hats and coats and capes.
C'mon devs. Don't let some runty dummies with the social skills of 13-year-olds stop you from taking game customization to the next level. PLEEEASSEE?
actually the general concensus is that there would be too many "Pimp" themed masterminds. and we all know there would be some but it would be nice to have. my 2 cents in a nutshell
|
my first mastermind was a satyr-ess who's backstory was essentially that someone hired a ninja clan to kill her and she unwittingly seduced her way through the clan until they served her...(the language of the back story was implication and innuendo, like a pre-censoring Bugs Bunny cartoon, you only get the adult-content reference if you've learned other things first...heck even post-censoring they mostly got rid of the violence and failed to note the sexual referencees)
I had several binds and macros to make the ninja worship her...
In addition, the character was "Satyr Nau" and her followers had a number of names to go with that. "Wil" "Satyr Nau" "Mustu" "Satyr Nau"
etc, etc
and really, as I've said, what I did was tame and rather easy to overlook
it is easily possible to do more of a chippendale or gigolo get up, especially with Thugs
so leaving out female minions doesn't really make sense

So many different ways to go with this sort of idea too. Felines, Dogs, Apes, Aquatic, Reptilian etc.
The two Mastermind primary powersets that I came up with over in the Lady-Jade's Power Suggestion Box were for Thought Control and Plants, both of which are common in comic lore and easily explained as science or mutation in origin.

As I pointed out in the Thought Control post, I don't know if that MM powerset would be a good option in a Going Rogue world, where they might become a hero and have to explain why they are enthralling innocent people.
