Warshade worth it?

I am kinda new to CoH, and want to make a Warshade, but posts I have read say that some of the random encounters can kill you in one shot at 50. Is this true??? Has there been a patch to help with this?? I mean, whats the point of working to 50 to make a "powerful" toon, if you can still be one shotted??

There is nothing in the game that can kill you in one shot, especially not when you're rocking 85% resistance to all damage types, as a Warshade often does in the upper levels.

No voids aren't even relatively dangerous anymore, compared to other foes.

Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.

Warshades are 100% worth it.
Voids have been nerfed into being slightly less dangerous than a sleeping kitten for a while.

Warshades are worth it, though you might appreciate them more after attempting to level up a Peacebringer.

Warshades are mislabeled "epic" in City of Heroes. Epic, here, does not mean "better than everything else." It means "tied into lore." Also, the one shotting never happens. The void attacks are resistable and don't even hurt that much to begin with anymore.

Aside from that, yes, they are worth it. My warshade was the most fun character I've ever played.

Please, give my Tri-Form Warshade guide a read. It'll certainly help out if you decide to roll one.

Ok, personal quibblea out of the way first; Go easy on those poor question marks, willya? They don't need to be abused so.

Secondly, people, I dont know where you keep pulling this 'Oh you cant be one shotted' crap from. Yes you damn well can! You cant get one shotted from FALL DAMAGE. NPCs are fair game. Go run at a pylon in RWZ and see how far that gets you. Enemies can and WILL one shot you if they can. No exceptions.

Onto the matter at hand;

Warshades are quite complex to play the first time around. It took me a couple of tries to like them, and I found three times was the charm. If you go for Triform (Id advise it) you'll need to micromanage a fair bit. The results are, when pulled off right, imensely worth it. WSs are one of the few 'Unique' feeling ATs, in that there isnt really anything else in game that feels even remotely like them. Nothing is more rewarding then obliterating an entire spawn, staggering into the middle and restoring yourself to full health and end over their dead bodies (arrested. Whatever )

Onto the special enemies, Voids/Quants and Cysts. Voids and Quants are one minion, LT or Boss that spawn in random mobs. The minions are annoying, but bearable. Now, despite what everyone else harps on about 'oh, their wusses now', 'not dangerous at all';
BULL - ****
Lieutenant and Boss class Voids and Quants are dangerous. They do VERY High damage to a low HP AT, have nearly 100% chance of knockdown and even a chance to stun. By the time you've got back up after being knocked down, the gun will be ready to fire again.
However; caution and a bit of planning will usually see you able to deal with them. If your on a team, they can help crush the little vermin, leaving you to go on your merry, soul destroying way.

Cysts, now. Cysts are lethal if you run in unprepared. If you are careful, they only spawn a few Nicti clouds, which can then be obliterated along with the crystal.
IF your unlucky, you get this;

The Purple Wall of Doom.

Overall though? Warshade are worth it. You get out of it exactly as much as you put in. Dont expect them to just run themselves. And you only need to get a toon to 20 to unlock them. 'Epic' means 'Epic content/storyline', not 'Godmode toon'.

Warshades are fun and I love my Tri-Form. Then again I love my human only PB too so I am a bit biased when it comes to the epic toons.

Mr. Microcosm is far and away my favorite character ever. WS's are just plain awesomesauce, and they keep getting better all the way to 50. They also respond exceedingly well to certain IO bonuses, such as recharge, with the only perma-able tier 9 armor left in the game.

Techbot: if you kept your teammates at range the cyst wouldn't spawn so many puffballs. Also, if you're experiencing a one shot kill (unless the attack had DoT in it), you need to bug it as that is supposedly coded out of the game now.

Also, imo, Peacebringers are like an entirely different AT and just not worth it in general. If you play a warshade first and then try a peacebringer, you may not be able to stick with the pb.

Techbot Alpha basically lined out the various special threats Kheldians (Peacebringers & Warshades) face, but I'd just add that the boss-class Voids and Quantums, who are easily the most dangerous, you don't see unless you're in a team or 7-8 or have yoru difficulty set to the same (x7 or x8). The Lts, while still dangerous, can be taken out if you're alert and hit them first, especially with some form of control power (stun from Gravitic Emanation/Inky Aspect or hold from Gravity Well).

And yes, Warshades are absolutely worth it.

There is nothing in the game that can one-shot you. There are things that look like they're one-shotting you, but if you check the combat log, you'll see that they're doing damage over time or otherwise splitting the damage into multiple hits. Those pylons you mention? The damage is spread across six hits, which gets around the "no one-hit kills" rule.

Well, if you get dropped to 1% health in the initial hit and then die 1 second later to a DoT (high level fire using AVs) or get nailed by a multi-hit power that adds up to more than your HP total, that's effectively getting one-shot. It's not like you can do anything to prevent the (almost instantaneous) followup damage...

(That doesn't count high powered DoTs, since you can pop a green while they are ticking, provided you aren't stunned or knocked down or something. But good luck popping a green between the initial hit and the first tick of an attatched DoT.)

Nope. Sorry. Rikti Chief Soldiers say otherwise. Their one sword attack that is only ONE attack, and has no DoT, can one shot you. I've been one shotted by them, by enemies with stuff like Energy Transfer, certain EBs and AVs.

It's completely possible. Anyone saying otherwise is kidding themselves. Either thats WAI or not, but it still happens.

You mean ... the sword attack that does Lethal Damage AND Energy Damage? That's effectively "two ticks" of damage delivered by a single attack action. But it's still TWO and not a ONE shot.

Its still ONE power. One hit, one power, one shot. You can argue semantics all you want, but you make one hit check for that power, if that kills you its a one shot kill. End of.

I dont have a problem with it, per se. Its annoying, sure, but a Boss is a Boss. Saying that 'Theres no one shot kills' is a very obvious falicy, however.

Arguments aside, Warshades are amazingly fun . . . you can run into tough foes, but it really is nothing to worry about, as there are ways to handle them. I have a level 50 Warshade . . . and a level 35 Warshade . . . and a level 27 Warshade, all on different servers. I love playing a Warshade on a big team . . . lots of dead bodies everywhere.

However, Warshades are complex compared to many other characters. To play a Warshade well, you generally need a good understanding of how the game works and how "binds" work. Binds are important to make changing forms and the resultant tray switching easier. Therefore, if you are new to the game, you might not want to start with a Warshade. Try some other characters first to learn some basics, and try to learn about binds. Once you have a decent idea of how you like to play characters and how binds can be used, they try a Warshade.

I can't seem to find it mentioned on the wiki, but I have every confidence that the "one-shot" code does in fact prevent any single hit from killing your character if he is at full HP, even one with separate ticks. The only exception is powers that apply a DoT component, of which the Rikti towers are.

Unless you have combat logs to prove you were at full hitpoints when the Rikti sword "one-shotted" you, then I believe you are either mistaken or lying.

If you got hit by even a rikti monkey's swipe just after or even any time before the sword does its damage, the one shot code will not save you.

You mean the pylons that launch a *volley of missiles* at you, each of which do damage? Even the - what was it, 30,000 point hit from an exploding Steel Canyon building hits three times. Specifically to avoid the one shot rule and guarantee enough damage to kill you.

And they are still absolute wusses compared to how they were. Not to mention the stun - for a human/dwarf or triformer at least - has been made less of an issue than it was thanks to being able to shift into dwarf while stunned (and thus shaking it off, then self buffing, healing, attacking - which slows the rate of *their* attack and has a chance to knock them down, etc.)

What techbot needs to disclose about that, before the OP goes "Woah!" is that that's at least a four person team's worth. (check the chat log.) If you see that, grab some lucks, head in, mire, eclipse if you have it, be a godling of destruction. The biggest threat with a 'bloom' is that each of their attacks, like each of yours, slows your recharge if it hits. (Well, that and the crystal explodes.)

Actually, no. If your character is as full health, you cannot die from fall damage.

Case in point, during I14 Beta, I fell off the CoT floating island temple and took 45mil in damage.

Okay, it wasn't 45mil it was 44,984,156 points of damage. Guess what, didn't kill my character.

As for the OP's question, a Warshade or a Peacebringer operated by a competent player is a wonderful sight to behold.

As Techbot indicates one of the hassles of playing khelds is the shadow cysts. These can appear pretty much anywhere at random, and if you're on a team that doesn't know what it's doing, it can easily wipe the team.

What's worse, anyone who teams with you is then infected with the kheld taint, and that means shadow cysts can spawn even after the kheld leaves the team. I once joined a team that had no khelds on it. We were doing a Red Cap mission, and were steamrolling everything.

As the team was heading toward another spawn I noticed that there was a cyst in the middle of it. Before I could warn them it was too late. Twenty seconds later the rest of the team was dead.

I was doing another mission where two cysts spawned very close to each other in the intersection of two tunnels. We did everything right, but with the positioning the team wiped three times.

Even if not at full health, falls don't kill. They leave you with 1 Health. It's the enemies you landed next to that kill you
