Ideas for a fun and effective duo?
If you want something a bit different from what you already have, try a Cold/Sonic defender & a Spines/Dark Scrapper. You could also try something like a duo of /Earth Melee Dominators. They do some damage on single targets and decent AoE at later levels.
I used to have a friend that I duo'd with for a while on my Empathy Defender, pretty much whatever he played became SUPER for 90% of the time, with the remaining 10% of the time he was just Super. Just wish I went with something besides /NRG on my Emp, but oh well.
I've always wanted to try two corruptors with ST buff secondaries. Probably a Fire/Cold and an Ice/Thermal. Seems like that'd have about the right mix of everything. Unfortunately, my old duoing partner hated ranged characters, so I never got to try it.
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
Obligatory "Two emp/sonic defenders." You get perma Fort and adrenaline boosts, two perma RAs, and heaps and gobs of -res. Add in stacked leadership powers with defender modifiers and you are a pair of gods.
I really like the cold/sonic defender paired with */dark scrapper idea though. I'd suggest something other than spines, but that's just me. I'd prefer to have a lot more single target damage.

Empathy/Sonic defender paired up with an Elec Melee/Shield scrapper was a blast. Did this with my friend last year. It is so far my fastest level 50 and we never even powerleveled or joined high level teams, just story arcs all the way.

I vote for two Scrappers. Any two will work great.
I have been wanting to try the 2 emp/sonics idea for a while. On paper it looks incredible. On SO's only you can get capped defense, almost limitless endurance, constant ~90% damage buff(20% vig, ~39% assaults, and 31% fort), and perma hasten/ra/ab. Add in tough and the epic shield, and you have near defender capped s/l resistance. If you go dark ancillary, you can get a perma soul drain up as well. It's just loads of fun.
I can't believe I forgot to mention it but you could also try a couple VEATs. A couple friends and I all rolled Banes and they are pretty fun - especially once we tried 'gun' builds.
Mix & match and they're all pretty fun. My bane's "cheap" (well, "no purple" at least) gun/mace blast build has 28.5% melee defense, 48.5% ranged defense, and 33.2 AoE defense. But then, that's when Hidden... each number is about 5% lower when not hidden. When the three of us were together we'd have much higher defenses and we pumped out massive AoE damage considering the +DMG toggles and the -RES debuffs. 3 Venom Grenades and 3 Surveillances came out to -120% resistance... not sure about the cap on that, but it really made a difference on AVs. (-60% for AoEs since Surveillance is single-target)
Fire/Kin Cor and an Elec or Fire/SD Brute.

Both options of course are complete overkill...
My newest dualboxpair is a plant/rad controller with an ill/rad controller. It´s absolutly awesome to see them in action. There should be nothing that is a threat to you: Both chars get awesome powers early in the game. The singletarget confuse in Ill doubles the usefullness of seeds since even bosses will be confused. The lack of containment in Ill will be given by Plant. You can say that you pair a singletarget specialist with a AoE monster and get more than the sum of both. You will be able to pull above the aggrolimit ( for example 3 spawns of +1/x8) with Phantom army, and be able to kill them easily thanks to seeds.
In the Endgame, AVs will be a nice snack between. Although it´s powerful, it demands some coordination by the 2 players so it should not get boring too soon. (and you don´t have to buff to much, aside a doublestacked Accelerate Metabolism which gives good + dam, + recharge and most important +recovery). The most important thing with that combo is: it matures early in the game and is rly a blast to play and a good force multiplicator. If you team, ou should make every PUG invincible.
Maybe you see how much I like the combination of both
My next duo will be: Ice/cold and Ice/ Kin controllers. Buth these will mature slowly in the damage department...(but controlwise early)
Emp/Sonic duo is strong, but could get boring after a while.
Eventually a Cold/Ice defender duo (strong but matures later).
You see, I prefer Blueside Controller or defender combinations because they are better forcemultipliers. (nowadays I prefer controllers, since i hate to run after the minions ;P)

So far we have been having the most fun with our Arch/Kin corr and Stone/Stone brute combo. With GR in mind, what 2 ATs and powersets do you think would go especially awesome together. |
Do either of you have any preferences towards melee or ranged? How about repeatedly using the same buff powers? Any preferences on needing to target specific enemies or anything else combat related? Some people like fast paced characters and others like big, long animation easy to play guys.
Will you be just duoing or joining larger teams? How important is starting out powerful? How important is the capabilities at level 50? Do you plan on trying to tackle Task Forces as a duo? Any preferences on the amount of AoE damage you want to do?
Any other information you can give would be very helpful

Twin B-Sword/Shield Scrappers.
Twin Ice/Cold Corruptors.
Twin 'Huntsman' built VEATs.

Id suggest two trappers.....pick up stealth and a stealth io....dont be afraid to run n gun. Get in, one person throw down acid mortar, the other throw down poison trap.....then happy blast, no really....keep blasting and be happy about it.
Respec trials are youre bread n butter once you hit 26.....at least youll be doing something while the teams complaining they are bored....one takes the area directly next to the reactor, the other sets up just outside that zone...... when you hear things explode throw down an acid mortar.....and watch the cartwheeling bodies fly through your mines and caltrops..... laugh maniacly....
stealth is your major strength, so dont skimp. Poison and acid traps are your friends, so slot them, and FFg gets stuck alot, be mindful of where it is before you unleash hell.....it also takes agro for you so sacrifice it often.
The rest of your powers are fun powers so have alot of fun with them.
A Fire/Dark Corruptor paired with a Fire/Dark Tanker might be ridiculously insane once GR comes along.
A Fire/Dark corruptor with a Claws/Regen scrapper would absolutely demolish low-level content with both maturing quite well by level 10-16.
