Mystery men
Radio/Paper missions look to just be filler til a Mayhem/Safeguard. The Defeat 'Insert Name' missions are kinda just that, youre just beating a dude up named Inferno, or Thanatos.
For the others, the glowies and the rescue missions, you tend to see jokes in them because at least the Devs got to be a lil more creative designing those missions. The Blue Oyster Cult or Inobtainium missions are kinda funny.
I like the P.L.O.T. Device and a few that reference Rocky Horror.
With the addition of AE, the Devs should hold a contest to allow players to design new Scanner/Newspaper missions. Think about how many more we could have!
I thought this post would be about the movie, "Mystery Men."
LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

Heh that was the bait Local Man.
I was afraid that the names would just be fillers. I actually like popping into a mission and seeing a guy I beat down 5 levels ago. It makes me wish that the NPCs would remember us, and say something snarky.
5 levels ago? I beat up Archon Manuela every other mission.
Well I was trying to be conservative. There have been a couple of times that it was the same mob in the same cave with a different goal.

I'm rather partial to the dialogue in the Rescue Dr. Stephen Fayte radio mission
However, it turned out that Smith was not a time-travelling Terminator
My personal favorite is rescuing musician Mazzy Stardust. I grab that one each time it comes up for the mental image of Hope Sandoval somnolently wandering behind me as I rescue her, tranquilized expression on her face.

Sartre once said, "Hell is other people." What does that make an MMO?
I always grin at this defeat boss one:
All units: Use of excessive force in the aprehension of (VillainBoss) has been authorized.
Also the one where you rescue Mr. L Jenkins
Well, using current power customization, we can at least make The Shoveler.

I actually have "Invisible Boy" on Guardian as a stalker. Although it was "inspired by the movie," I don't think the character was ever separately trademarked and the name is pretty general.
Most of my characters are original concepts/puns, but every now and then, I do one based upon something else . . . my Traps Defender is a take-off of Ron Popiel (founder of Ronco and inventor of many, many gadgets), and my Sonic/Kin Corrupter is Sam Kineson (comedian whose was famous for yelling at people).

I've always liked confronting, facing, opposing, defeating, and/or dealing with Archon Roget.

I just rescued Peter Kent from the Circle of Thorns... I couldn't shake the strange feeling that he didn't really need my help.
I'm sure there is...
Working on getting it all together ... *looks at sig*
Personally, I'm getting a little sick of joke and pop culture references. It's gotten me so paranoid that every time I see a new name in this game, I try searching my memory for what it might be a reference to, and if I can't think of anything, I can't shake the feeling there's a reference there that I'm just not getting. At this point, content that is NOT referencing something is a valuable commodity.
Samuel_Tow is the only poster that makes me want to punch him in the head more often when I'm agreeing with him than when I'm disagreeing with him.

Hey, Sam refers to himself as humorless, so you're not that far off.
Dec out.

The nobodies.
The third stringers.
You get the idea. The question here is about the named mobs in the paper/radio missions, such as Orstes (sp?) and Boiling Point. Does anyone know where they get their names, and whether there is actual back history written on any of them?
