Market Merger: Inf Cap worries.
a few players are going to get boinked out of a lot of inf.
based on what the devs said any inf you've placed as bids SHOULD remain in the slot until you claim it. That being said I'd suggest withdrawing it and mailing it to an alt just in case.
Also, if they were to raise the influence cap they would not do it just temporarily because it would take a lot of coding.
The reason that 2 billion is the cap is due to the way they have the number variable setup in the code and to raise it beyond that would most likely take a reworking of many places of code.

gee... didn't i mention this about 4 months ago... when the new market ui was going in? i think i did. then i just mentioned it about a month ago again when we learned the markets were goingto be merged...
i'd take anything of high value off the markets to. just to be safe.
I'd expect everything to work exactly as it's been stated so far - bids and sales just go into "storage," if you will, and you can retrieve them later. To me at least that sounds like inf totaling over 2 billion won't mysteriously vanish.
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
Wow this is some serious crap

total kick to the gut
This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

And even if you mentioned it early on in that time frame, I'd have missed it. I was AFK for a gaming con.

I'm leaving everything where it is just to see what happens.
I have so many juicy set IOs stashed away in base storage for the unprecedented consumer frenzy GR's going to unleash I'll probably need to make more inf mules anyway.
Let's see just how good the devs are! =P

there's this thing called email. I'm not sure how much I can store there, but I intend to do so.
I am an ebil markeeter and will steal your moneiz ...correction stole your moneiz. I support keeping the poor down because it is impossible to make moneiz in this game.
Boinked?

I thought email storage was wiped after 30 days? The market merge is more than a month away, right?

Also, if you're extra paranoid, you can just transfer the extra inf to a variety of alts... if you don't have enough alts, roll new ones! If you're completely out of space on all servers... consider hosting back-to-back costume contests in AP/Cap/Storm Palace.

it got increased to 60 days, much to the enjoyment of many players waiting for me to slip up and not be right for once.

Whatever the rules I have begun spreading my infamy out among all the servers so that every alt has between 750M and 1.5B on them cause I don't trust the devs ability to make sure I don't lose all those piles of 2B infamy which are clumped on my mules atm. Honestly I've never had so much money on Triumph and Liberty so its a new experience.
You know, maybe I should have been more worried about this issue back when I17 went live. Is it just my imagination or did those non-existent Market teleport inspirations vanish when the new UI arrived?

Over the hills and through the woods.
You can send 2B per email...of course the receiving toon has to be totally empty to accept such a mail. I'd say you'd always need to keep at least 1 slot open to send whatever the receiving toon has but could safely send 2B per slot otherwise....so 38B in 19 email.
In addition you can have 12 toons per server as storage mules. Lets assume that you're an altaholic and have 6 toons you actually play per server and a home server full with 12 played toons. That still leaves you with another 60 "mules" to store 2B apiece on for another 120B.
Throw in the fact you can have a personal SG/VG base and store actual valuable items in racks of 100 IO's each. So assuming you decide to have 10 racks (1000 IOs) in your base and fill them with IOs worth an avg of 20M each (easy with a few purples and lotg's mixed in. There's another 20B stored in illiquid form.....if you stock mainly high end stuff with an average price of 200M each (still quite easy if you're that loaded) -- and you can store 200B in a single base thats not even maxed out.
If you have more than that you can afford to use inf to start more solo VGs for storage with mules until all your stuff is stored.
Trust me there is little or no fear of people losing their fortunes if they put a little effort towards maintaining them.
The only thing I can see as a possible issue with the merger plan isn't actually a new problem. It's a problem right now, on live, with claiming sold stacks that have a combined value over 2B inf. There's simply no way to claim them - the I17 cap overflow code keeps you from taking the stack at all. Anyone who leaves up a canceled stack of sales worth more than 2B total is probably going to be stuck in the same way.
I don't forsee people losing gobs of money unless the merger actually doesn't work as intended. I certainly think that's possible, maybe even likely, because I think it's going to be hard for them to test this well in beta. For that reason, I'll be yanking goods off the market before the merger. I don't think the merger is set up to screw anyone by design, though.

Oh, on topic, database merging can be problematic. Be safe. Yank everything out of email and market storage before GR go live. Better safe than ticked off.
Be well, people of CoH.
Okay, I've been disbursing inf amongst my alts just in case. But in some cases, this is going to be VERY problematic.
What about people who have +2 billion (OVER 2 billion) in bids/items for sale, etc out there?
I haven't seen anything mentioned about this yet (or just missed it if it were).
Will there be an (at least) temporary repeal of the inf cap?
Or are a lot of people going to get boinked out of several billion inf?
