Hami Origin Enhancements
When they can enhance multiple aspects, they're a bit better than (lvl 50) common IOs. HOs (and SHOs, the same but 'synthetic') have largely fallen by the wayside, but are still useful as a suplemental enhancement to fill in any gaps left by set IOs (and obviously would fair better with just the generic non-sets).
There's a fair amount floating around on WW/BM, and they're usually not priced too horribly high (at least in terms of set IOs).

Assuming you're benefiting from multiple aspects of the HO (and why would you slot if if you weren't gaining that benefit?), then yes, they're better than common IOs.
lv50 schedule A IO: 42.4%
lv50 schedule A HO component: 33.33%
For a simgle component, the IO is better. However, slot 2 Nucleolus Exposure (Acc/Dam) vs. Invention: Accuracy and Invention: Damage, and the HO comes out ahead (66.66% each vs. 42.4% each). And so on.

Also, you can combine them to get level 52 HOs.
there are a few 53s from an old bug floating around as well but those are limited supply and expensive.

Hami-O's are great for certain limited uses. Use 3 Enzymes in Radiation Infection and you have max slotted all three aspects of the power, ToHit Debuff-Defense Debuff-EndRdx, in just three slots. In effect, you are getting 9 SO's value out of three slots. Granted, you may give up a set bonus, but you may need the extra slots somewhere else more. In effect, you can get more enhancement in fewer slots. One example would be slotting a cone attack -- Acc/Dam, Acc/Dam, Dam/Range. In three slots you get very good accuracy, capped damage and some added Range. That Range will really help a cone, and Centrioles are pretty cheap. Three Membrane Hami-Os will cap both Damage Resistance and EndRdx in only three slots.
Hami-O's are great for filling in places where you would otherwise Frankenslot, and there may not be the right kinds of combos available.
Hami-Os can be used to to enhance abilities that it would otherwise be a waste to enhance. A Micro buffs all travel powers, so putting one in Swift buffs BOTH Fly and Run Speed. Putting an Acc/Mez or Dam/Mez in Illusion's Blind not only buffs Hold duration, but also buffs the rarely-seen sleep duration.
There is a bug that allows Hami-Os to be used for higher levels of enhancement. An Enzyme has Defense Debuff and EndRdx, but the way the game handles these enhancements, that Enzyme will also provide Defense buffing, and at a higher level than Defense buff enhancements. Some people are slotting Enzymes in Defense shields for this reason.
My Illusion/Radiation guide talks some about Hami-Os and their uses.

When I looked into Hami-O slotting I copied the following useful information from someone (sorry I didn't save the name of the poster).
... Membranes, for example (Tohit/Def/Rech) ... is basically the best thing you can slot in Fortitude or Forge. Or Cytoplasms (Tohit/Def/End) in Invincibility. Or Enzymes (ToHitDebuff/DefDebuff/End) in Radiation Infection. Peroxisomes (Dam/Mez) are another, albeit much less useful. Membrane goes great in Mind Link as well. With 3 slots you can max out all 3 attributes of the power, including one that's not slottable with standard SOs/IOs. Throw 3 Endoplasm Exposures in Lich and giggle madly. You just increased his accuracy, hold duration, immobilize duration, and fear duration. 4 attributes maxed with 3 slots. |

Also of note is the use of Membranes in Shield Defense's Active defense, resulting in both the reduction of time it takes to recharge and the enhancement of the Defense Debuff Resistance the power provides which cannot otherwise be enhanced.

The Devs have stated that this is an exploit and that they will fix it, when they can figure out how to do it (without having to re-code too much of the game engine). If you do go this route just be aware that you could lose the enhancements when they fix the exploit. And since it is an exploit, they may not let us know about it beforehand, you would would log in and find that power suddenly missing its enhancements.

For example:
Enhancing range of ID with centriole isn't exploit while enhancing damage resistance is.
Enhancing endurance of Maneuvers with Enzyme isn't exploit while enhancing defence is.
I doubt that HOs will be removed from the power. At least one aspect of the power is enhanced legitimately.

Eislor wasn't saying you'd log in to find your HOs deleted. Simply that the exploit portion will at some point stop working.
|
Quoted statement sounds too ambiguous to me. It can be interpreted as either enhancements were removed or some aspects of these enhancements stoped working.
They're saying what MAY happen once they figure out how to fix the exploit, not what has happened. And what will happen will be the exploit part won't work any more. The enhancement itself won't disappear.
Dec out.
IIRC, Castle mentioned that they'd be fixing it soon(tm) in 2006.

I tried looking through the forum for HOs, but I couldn't find what I am looking for. So maybe someone out there can answer my question? I am just wondering if HOs are better to use then normal IOs (not IO set)? Looking over the HOs they seem to be good, especially when they give like 33% on Acc and Damage. The dual purpose of the enhancements imo would help a lot, when slotting a toon. The only issue I can see is there a market for them?
Any input would be great
Thanks
