It's called an overview.

Yeah, I wanted more information myself, but this is basically a set-up for more information, what with getting a new section under Game Information for Zones and all.

As far as I'm concerned, if we get another update about Nova Praetoria or another zone this or next week, I won't be too disappointed about this update.

1) I like the looks of the new zones. However, I do find it a bit amusing that Praetorian Earth is supposed to be swimming in technology and advances beyond those of Primal Earth or the real world, yet the screenshots of Praetoria look much more like most real-world cities than the city zones of Paragon City and the Rogue Isles do.
Well, to be fair, you don't see a lot of our technological development on the outside of our buildings either.

I'd have to say it doesn't look "written" at all, or at least written in that form. It reads more like various excerpts cut from "Story Bible - Praetorian Perspective" and pasted together unedited to make an article, hence the repetition.

The concept art looks great! I'm especially hoping we get to see something like this in the game.

I think the most interesting bit of new info there is that the city is built on the site of Tyrant's defeat of the Hamidon - I wonder what secrets he's got in the basement of that tower of his?

That's not new. I don't remember where it's from, but I knew that before today. I also seem to remember some discussion that said place might be the Rogue Isles, but I don't remember the actual arguments or evidence.

I was one of the people who suggested it could be the Praetorian Rogue Isles - there are a few interesing connection points

I wonder if the Beta people know or not. It might be easily identified by the "city" map, but might not. Might be in one of the arcs.

Note: Not asking the Beta people to tell us, merely a hypothetical "wonder"ing.

*waves hands in a mystifying manner*
Tell us... TELL US... Ooooohhh...
O.o

Don't worry, Dec, I've got you covered, but I did it with great subtlety.

Late to the party, haven't been keeping up on developments, but wondering: are we assuming there will be new mission maps in Praetoria? Has there been any confirmation? Any guesses/info on how many?

There will be two new tilesets - one for the tunnels of the Underground, and one for Praetorian labs and other facilities.

You may call that an "Overview", but it seems most people on this forum disagree with you (as is everyones right, including yours to disagree with me). I especially do not see an "Overview" but instead a collection of "cut and pastes", a lot of bad editting thrown in, and no quality control.

I can't help but getting the feeling that they are trying to attract new customers by being mysterious, as well as, continue to entice the old and regular players. If that is the case: Attempt FAILED. At least that is what two of my friends told me this morning when they looked at the website and decided not to play for lack of info.

That frustrates me for the simple fact that I have never seen another MMO with more background than CoX and yet so little way to get the story on the website. Please do not talk to me about Wiki since that is not the "Official" web site and that is what my friends were looking at. They wanted to see what kind of detail was applied to the CoX and GR websites and were disappointed.

Oh well, just my opinion, feel free to disagree.

I'm glad I never turned in anything this bad to my English teacher last year in Creative Writing. She'd have killed my grade over it. The screen shots look awesome though.

EDIT: Ok, so someone gives me this negative reputation point on this post - "Swearing is bad, but being plain insulting isn't? Nice."

I have to assume it is talking about another post I made but I can not for the life of me figure out why it was hidden here. Also since I only have four posts I can't even figure out what they are talking about, none of them are insulting that I can figure out. Anyways, seems kinda childish but that's just my opinion.

I found that Overview page hard to read; the writing itself didn't flow. If it's from cut and pastes then that would explain it but I'd expect more of an effort. The idea is to draw people in and make them want to learn more. Not avoid wanting trog through such a dire piece of writing.

Regarding that site in general; isn't it about time they updated the FAQ with the announced release date? Or don't they expect to meet the deadline of Aug 17 and think it's better to stick to Summer 2010? *rolleyes*.

I agree. Short of solo'ing through (or have the star and understanding team mates who don't mind you reading the text), the Wiki is pretty much it for backstory.

The Official site - and the History and Story pages in particular - are shockingly lack-lustre and devoid of information. Which is a real shame.

I avoiding playing this game for a long time - I didn't like the screenshots. A decent backstory might have got me here sooner but when I went to the website I saw very little information. So I presumed it was all latex and childishness and passed. It took a LOT of fast and persistant talking from two friends to get me here. You can't rely on stubborn people badgering their friends to maintain a new player base.

EDIT:
And for the love of mike will someone PLEASE change the font on the official website. It's horrible to read and very hard on the eyes. Or give me an option to change it.*

I love how these zones look like a real city that isn't made of cardboard boxes, but I do have one big complaint about it, from what those pictures depict.

They look empty. Hardly any citizens, and I saw one car. Are we still in the mindset that a city only has a couple dozen people and vehicles, or are all the citizens of Praetoria just camera shy and hiding?

I did a test just to be sure and for the three screenshots from a distance, you simply loose the detail of the small stuff like people and vehicles. It wouldn't suprise me a bit if they had to amp up the settings pretty high just to get the clarity that they did get. As for the sewers shot, I would hope not too many people are hanging out in the sewers. Lastly, the ground level view does show some people, just not many.

Another thing though, they may just not have much "background noise" going on in order to highlight the beauty of the zones themselves.

I like the big wide openness of the underground. Looks cool and it won't be hated like the dreaded narrow caves we have now.

Don't forget that no one's allowed to own their own car in Praetoria - I don't think there'll be that muich traffic on the roads.

Me too, and I sincerenly hope it won't be the achilles heel of the game.

I do not want to see CoH suffer from 'Tortage' syndrome. A GREAT 1-20 experience followed by a bit of a lackluster set of areas and missions thereafter, in comparison to the previous experience.

If I were a new player, and I played through the 1-20 content in Prae and then got dumped into Paragon city, with it's obviously old game design philosophy, I'd have a serious case of WTF.

The visual appeal of the dynamic city that is Nova Prae is utterly absent from most of Paragon, and I very much hope that the devs are seriously reconsidering their attidute of "never redo the old.. only add new". This is on case where "no new, fix old" would be of benefit to them.

I can see all the cyclists here cheering and wanting to elect Cole for mayor or governor

One of David Nakayama's art threads has involved him asking for player suggestions for ways older content can be freshened up a bit looks wise.

So they made a canon reason to not put more cars on the streets, like a real city should be? That....ugh.

Wlel, as an increase in traffic would cause more lag, they probably thought it was a good idea to try and work that restriction into the actual lore
